B - I'm enjoying a much earned vacation while I rebuild my house, but I hope AOD keeps the game alive for when I come back. {Plans are all approved, and they just finished pouring the foundation, so I'll probably be moving in around June. My den will have dedicated storage/display cabinets and fold down terrain tables!}
I wish there were a 'Fix the old rules and run THAT as 1.0 events' {DA-FP} and a 'AOD is cool, use LI-AOD as 2.0 events' option.
Now you sort of HAVE to buy into AOD just to keep playing, at venues at least. Just to understand the new rules/cards/meta.
That's just as bad as retirement. I can't use stuff I've paid good money for, plus, now I HAVE to spend more. Yeah, I've heard it all before, they're a business, they have to make money, blah, blah, blah. It just kinda irks me.
I think retirement is a good thing. I'm waiting to see if WK can reach some kind of play balance with AOD! I used to love playing MW and I was a real competitive prick.
But I got tried of grinding my friends and random newbie’s to dust.
The game right now has 2 or 3 cookie-cutter builds that you must run in order to have a chance to compete. This game has no BALANCE AMONG UNITS and 98% OF ALL UNITS PRODUCED ARE BIRD DROPPINGS, not worth the plastic they are made with.
Because of this, the game has devolved in to a “STINKY MOLDY, POG THROWING, TANK DROPPING, MORE POG THROWING, POO-SMELLING PIECE OF #### STINKY CHEESE” not worth playing
This games is not fun, and I prey WK will pull there head out and put together an effective rule set in AOD, where different play styles and varied army builds will be able to compete on equal footings…or most players will quite.
I hope they do, because I’ll miss MW if they don’t…:noid:

I think that WK is making a lot of good changes in an attempt to better balance mechs with infantry and vehicles. It almost seems necessary for them to retire some of the sets so those overly powerful unique units will no longer upset the game balance.
I'm not terribly concerned about retirement. For a while before retirement was officially announced I was looking at my basement at the dozen or so large tackle-boxes full of figures and was thinking to myself that I should cut some of the collection back. Once I got news of what WK was intending I decided to make retirement work for me. I chose to keep the one faction at the time that I knew wouldn't be cut initially at all (Liao) and have dumped most of the rest. Now I'm getting some of the $ back that I invested in this game so if I get out at this point I will still be out a fair amount of $ ... but not as bad as before. So I will put a hold on any purchases for MW/AOD and will just use the stuff that I have since none of it will be retired immediately. And if AOD lays an egg I just have to drop one faction on ebay and I can be out in no time and put some moolah back in my pocketbook.
AOD looks interesting but one of the big selling points of MW was that it played FAST. With all the cards and gear and the endless FAQs that have come out over the last 2 years (and will need to be revamped with the AOD release I'm sure) it certainly does NOT play anywhere near as fast as it used to. Sure games only take 50 min still ... but are your games DONE at the end of those 50 min? I'm willing to bet more and more games are NOT even close to being completed at the end of that time. It'd be interesting to play a game of MW with a set force then play a similar game of CBT with the same type forces and play both games to completion and see just how much difference in time there is between the two now. Not much I bet.
Once MW/AOD loses one of its main selling points (fast play) ... what's the reason to stay with it as opposed to going back to CBT (unless you hate putting figures together and painting)?
It kinda sucks that some pieces I spent alot of money on (like Mason) I won't be able to use whenever I want but I think it will really hellp balance out the game. Plus there's always unrestricted. Plus plus, being a former MtG player, I always kinda expected retirement to come about in some form. And AoD looks like it might be awsome.

Set retirement never affected me at all. However, I've got so many units now that I'm majorly cutting back. I'll collect a few AOD boosters, then I'm done. I don't play enough with what I have, and I'd actually like to try everything out that I have at least once or twice.

I just started about 5 months ago and purchased about $2000 in plastic that is no longer collectible. But I think AoD is looking nice and I will give it a shot.
I have spent $900 + on this game. I never intended to sell my collection to get back any of that money. I value my enjoyment of this game, even with the flaws in it . I truly hope that they correct most ( all is just to much to ask ) of the problems. I will be buying & playing at my venue for as long as this game is fun to play.
