Mainframe did the Transformers Beast Wars show a while back too and I was a big fan of that. This new BT/MW show looks awesome! I can't wait to see more!
Chris
Mainfraime also, did the Heavy Gear series, as well as Max Steel and Action Man. My recollection was that they did the GI-Joe CGI Movie, but I don't see that on thier web site.
I wonder when it will be finished - most CGI projects take about a year to go from deal to shelf, depending on complexity and marketing issues. I wonder if they'll be able to import some of the models used for the books into the video and save time (and won't Vic love the royalties, if he gets some)
I can't wait to see this myself. I will support this all the way, as with any kind of luck this could be the first of many good things to come. I just hope they keep throwing lots more pictures of progress shots up so that I can keep changing my wall paper. Personally, I love the Milagro.
Only bad thing seems to be those human charachters. Personally i like from realistic or anime style but not from american style to do unrealistic humans. Those Steel Wolves charachters in second picture make me sick but reason to me for waiting that is those mechs.
This is actually really good news. While a live action Hollywood movie would be nice, it's stuck in development he-double hockeysticks. Which is like the Bermuda Triangle when it comes to getting a movie made. A CG feature can do things that would cost a live action movie millions for a fraction of the cost.
This is a preemptive request for all the Battletech zealots out there. Give this thing a chance. I'm sure Wizkids and Mainframe will be watching the sales figures closely. A successful DVD release could mean a full time series, in prime time. I'm sure the Saturday morning cartoon for Yugi has helped sales, but it would be nice to see Mechwarrior on one of the cable networks. How nice would it be to see it on a channel that wouldn't treat it as a way to sell cereal. This is the type of show that could gain a cult status following like Angel, or Buffy or Firefly with the right writing and production values. This won't happen if it doesn't at least have a chance.
So I take it the true movie-deal for MW got scrapped in favor of this? Or is there still an actual movie coming as well? Well ... if the movie is scrapped and this is it then I suppose at least all the $ they save on paying actors should hopefully give them plenty of $$$ to do this right. I guess we will see.
How do we know that those are Steel Wolves in the human picture? :ermm:
The unit insignia on the mechs is the Ghost Legion (or possibly Vanguard Legion since that was the unit that the Ghosts sprang from), the Swordsworn veteran regiment.
I assumed from the mostly grey with the red armband that the humans were in a Republic Militia outfit...
Those uniform pants also seem pretty Prussian/Germanic in styling so why not House Steiner?
I'm pretty excited about this too. Mechs look really good. We'll have to see how they sell me on the rest of the world and the humans and human interaction in particular.
1.) The MW movie had a PSF (that's Potential Suck Factor, 1-10) of 10. No way that a Hollywood studio could take a storyline this deep and varied and make it into a 2-hour action flick and make it anything good. A direct-to-DVD CGI feature, though, has much more potential. It was pointed out in the article, it gives them a lot more creative flexibility and ability to write the story that they WANT to tell.
2.) Mainframe also did the MTV Spider-Man series, which really was a work of art. Everytime Spider Man was onscreen, it just threw me back to the old Steve Ditko days, because he looked long and lanky and weird and awesome. They captured the style they wanted perfectly, and did some really amazing stuff with it. The DVDs are in stores, people! Buy 'em!
3.) The thumbnails they've got up for us now look simply awesome. That Jade Hawk is beautiful, and it's good to see that they're gonna be focusing on the current storyline.
So, I hereby give the MechWarrior CGI Film a PSF 5. Right in the middle. We know the animation will be solid, it's the story that's still up in the air.
Well, the Battletech cartoon was stupid, and I still loved it. So if this is stupid, I'll love it, and if it's not, I'll love it that much more!
I like the semi-cell-shade look they've got going, and I'm glad that they didn't overstylize the mechs (even if the people are a little over-stylized for my tastes).
At first I cringed when I saw this, but it's being done by the same people that did ReBoot, which I loved, so there's still hope that it will be cool =]
