Last ruling on that was that SU Evade is NOT used when you use it to reduce heat on a run, only if you use it to 1) break away on anything but a 1 or 2) raise your defense by 2 against an attack.
Can you provide a link and/or a cut & paste from Kelly on this? It no longer says this in the FAQ and clearly you are "using" evade if you run but take no heat.
I am thinking this was removed from the FAQ intentionally since there are now quite a few SW units that start with single-use evade...
The quote about no recruit cost only applies if there is also no generic recruit cost. As of this point, all Gunslingers can be put into any Mech of the appropriate class, and can be recruited to any faction. If they do not have a specific faction cost, then you use the generic cost.
If it worked the other way, then Dave Rees could never be used outside his Raptor, since he could not gain a faction symbol.
Kelly actually 'clarified' more recently that SU Evade *will* cause damage on a no-heat run. The original ruling that it didn't cause damage was from a Dark Ages version of the FAQ, and it is no longer there.
And JP can pilot an SW 'Mech. He has to pay the generic recruit cost to do so. That has also been informally clarified but is not in the current FAQ. :(
We've been using it that single click evade does make you click the dial. If it doesn't, then why would it be single use? I mean.. SINGLE USE right? If it's made that you don't click it... wow that would really make Steel Wolves hard to use. I mean, unless you waste points on that ridiculous faction ability or on pogging yourself... You're easy to hit before you hit your prime, and if you do get hit you're past your prime. Not allowing a Steel Wolf player to click when you use single use stuff would be ######ed, and make the game unbalanced against them.

Like I said, earlier, you waste ORDERS pogging yourself which is much worse,
IMHO, than spending 15 points out of 450 (or 30 out of 600) for the FP card.
Like you said, it's easy to get hit before your prime (and possibly get knocked
past it). Why risk that when you can use the faction pride card to get your main
unit (say Geoff Bekker) to his prime click?

Honestly, am I the ONLY person who gets this?
OOPS! FP would cost 20 for a 600, not 30. My bad. :)
why don't u try using active volcano to try to get damage on ur mech? Its doesn't count against your point total.
While it doesn't count against my points, active volcanoes only offers a 33%
chance of pushing damage. I'd rather spend the points and give myself a 100%
chance of pushing damage. Yes, I like those odds much better. :)
Ok so I'm supposed to waste points every time I play on my faction ability or I'm at a huge disadvantage, that's dumb. Or if my opponent plays that card that cancels faction abilities, I'm even at a huge disadvantage plus I wasted points on my faction ability? I shouldn't have to waste points on abilities or bet on cards like active vulcanoes (which I do use) just to be on a level playing field.
If I wasn't allowed to use my single click evade it would severly hinder what army I could field and my enjoyment of the game. Units like the Blade and Alpha become useless. If someone perfect days you (no active vulcanoes) and gets rid of your faction ablity, my powerful mechs have the stats of my oponents weak mechs. I'm in the top 3 ranked guys out of the large group I play in but I don't think I'd be able to compete.
I can't waste turns pogging myself, especially with 2 damage pogs. What, am I supposed to pog my Blade and get him past his sweet spot before he even gets into a fight? Also, if I'm busy pogging myself.. my opponent is busy pogging my artillery. By the 3rd turn I might be able to have my mechs in their prime but by then my artillery is dead. Game over.
I don't normally play anything from the SW faction, but I may have to take a look at the Blade to see if I might like it or not ater reading all these opinions. Btw, I too, would use the SW Faction pride card instead of wasting orders pogging my own figures.

In case you're directing all that vitriol at me, let me just say I get where you're
coming from with the single-use argument. We're both in total agreement on that.
I also agree that the playing field should be more level. But, that's the challenge
of playing Steel Wolves and has been since Dark Age. You either have to adapt
your tactics accordingly, using whatever's available, or you don't play Steel
Wolves. It's really that simple. The FP card and active volcanoes are what's
available.
As for the Blade, Czech raised an excellent point (earlier in this thread) that you
can't pog it - it has reactive armor. If you leave AP on, you take it past it's prime
spot. ;)
It's the refusal to adapt that can be viewed as dumb, if you'll pardon my
frankness. Besides, it's already been proven that most players love to play faction
pure. Meaning you'll probably not see true grit played all that often. Most players
are going to want to use their faction pride, not cancel someone else's. :)

Canadianrugby, see the above post by Spudkin. MissInformation recently clarified that you do take a click of damage for using single-use evade to avoid heat on a run. The old ruling to the contrary was intentionally removed from the FAQ.
So on the Blade, you do not have to mess with pogging, FP cards, or Active Volcanos - you just run on your first turn.
Hey the only faction that I play is Steel Wolves and I've been adapting on how to use each units dial since the start. I got no problem adapting, and I'm not like most of the steel wolf players that complain about their abilities or having to get into the sweet spot. I don't mind all that, but if you're gonna make it harder for me to use my mechs you better believe that I'll complain. I'm not #####ing at you, just doing it because it needs to be done. It's challenge enough to try to get your units primed, to make it harder is just ridiculous.
