1 set per year = dead game

With regards to some of the side topics discussed here, I would be very surprised if any other new factions are introduced before the second set of 2006 (besides Clan Nova Cat).

Why?

Its a simple numbers game. In order for House Liao and (to a much lesser degree) CJF to survive, they will need to get something in the set after Firepower, and be well represented in the first set of 2006. Liao will be a complete non-factor otherwise. With Falcon's Prey retiring in August of 2006, CJF faces a less urgent crisis.

Now, we've already added Clan Nova Cat, House Kurita, House Steiner and House Davion. Depending on how CNC comes into the game (for or against the Spirit Cats), they may need more or less love. Since Kurita is coming in against the Dragon's Fury, they get the majority of pieces in Firepower. But we also know that DF will not be around come January 2006, so eventually they will be absorbed. Steiner needs some boosting, as they got shafted for a while. Davion needs virtually nothing. They can get by with just a few units per set over the next few sets. Add in the needs of Bannson's Raiders and the Steel Wolves, and the fact that the next two sets in 2005 will be smaller sets, and you just don't have room for additional factions. We won't even go into the need for additional Gunslingers and something to make us think that Sea Fox wasn't just a dream.

The 3 best candidates for introduction are Rashalhague, ComStar and Clan Wolf (but which one?). I would expect to see two of the three introduced in the first two sets of 2006, with the third set having no new introductions. That third set will need to cover for all the losses that will come from Falcon's Prey retiring.

As Lao said, one set per year would pretty much be the death of this game. For me, what keeps me excited about MW is that it constantly evolves and fresh units and factions join the fray.

But I #### sure hope that the Rasalhague Dominion is introduced in 2006 :)

Let's see, math, math, math.

Approximately $315 per case, {plus shipping {$10?} and possibly a starter {25?} {I LOVE nested footnotes!}} times three expansions a year, equals $945 to $1050 to play this game a year. Assuming the case per set option.

That's $87.50 a month. Or $2.88 a day. That's more than a pack a day smoking habit. But it's less than my bar tab.

Maybe if I quit drinking.

Of course, if I do that, spending a grand a year on brightly colored formed plastic with a tournament shelf life of two years might not seem so reasonable...

I agree and disagree with some comments on here.

First off being a player that tries to collect 1 of everything, nothing will change that fact as a collector I love to have complete sets. So I will always strive to get 1 piece of everything. I do however get Davion(SS) and Steiner(SH) units first and I do tend to hoard them.

Second, I do think that introduction of new factions and units on a regular basis is a good thing to keep the game changing and exciting. If you don't want this, then maybe you should try a different game, like checkers. Every 4 months feels about right along with having slightly smaller sets for collectors like me.

Third, since I rarely look at spoiler lists of upcoming sets and haven't yet for FI I couldn't tell you what each faction is getting in it, other than the talk that there are a lot of snakes in it. Coming from a Steiner - Davion perspective, better Dracs than Liao. Whoever said that if Liao doesn't get anything in the set after FI they will become insignificant, I ask, isn't Liao always insignificant anyway? HA! :p
Seriously though, if certain factions don't get an influx of units after FI they will be hurting come 2006 which in turn could hurt the player base. On a personal note, I will not shed one tear to see Liao Incursion be retired! Worst min-maxed set ever released and the cause of many of this games problems. The only good thing that will come from it, is I will finally be able to get a complete set of nons without paying ridiculous prices for them.

And finally since everyone is throwing out wish lists for what is after FI, I'd like to see Ghost Bear/Rasalhague, and then some sort of faction from what's left of the FWL or House Marik, then something from the Periphery. I can stand never having Comstar or another clan.

Well, you can knock about $350 off of that estimate with 2 of the 3 sets being smallers sets, and only needing starters for one release every two and a half years. That drops it down to around $58 per month. Now if I could just get my employer to withhold that much and buy my plasticrack with pre-tax dollars!

Oh come now, you don't honestly expect that anyone will believe that you stop at 1 case per expansion? Geez, I know people that are 3 case addicts. Hmm, I'm sitting in the chair of one of them.....

Just in Marquee's and Kill and Keep's, I opened a case. Top that off with 2 cases straight, though split with friends, and another case of random boosters bought 2 or 3 boosters at a time at different stores. Yeesh, where does the money go? But then, I do have a pretty good set of figures to play with. What keeps me sane, is knowing that I'm not the only one. That and buying a random booster the other night and pulling a Kurita Hawk.

I have gone close to case almost now. Split a case, Marquee,,Qualifer, Kill and Keep. I buy my boosters for sealed before they happen then leave in the store until the day most times. Expect for Saturday night Marquees.
