i think that mission cards are going to be cool, i hope we get some other ones that are just as cool as the "deliver the payload" one. of course this will get me to actualy use a vtol in my games.
These will definitely add a new dimension to the game. If you are playing in a larger tournament, you will almost have to play these to keep your total VCs as high as possible (assuming they are used in tournament play). You could potentially go 3/0 with 12 VCs in a normal tournament setting.
Love it, love it, love it... Can't wait to see the rest of the Mission cards.
Adds more strategy and depth to the game, which can only be a good thing. :)

I just hope they aren't "optional" in tournament play, or there's no point. I mean, if all your opponent has to do to cancel out your Mission card is say "I don't want to use Mission cards"... Icky.
I wouldn't worry about the Shuns becoming a power piece. They'll only be legal for what .... 6 months after FI releases? At the end of the year the retirement axe falls yet again and bye bye birdy. And likely you will never again see any VTOL with a total defense of more than 21.
I suppose you could play BR with lots of Sprints and ATVs. The objective would be to overwhelm the opponents defenses. With ATVs basing his units giving everything a +2 against him to hit the Sprints (which have decoy to make it that much harder to hit) he simply won't have the number of units needed to eliminate them all before you complete the mission.
But that's ok. Moot point. The mission card (at least that one) only gives you 1 VC. If you complete the mission but then the opponent wipes you off the board ... 1 VC vs his 2 or 3 VC isn't going to help you much. :)
Wow, I love the basic concept, as everyone else has said, it really adds a whole new dimention to the game, I can't wait to see what some of the other ones conditions are.
Is it just me or should Draddog have announced how these would be used in official tournament play?
It is great that the can be agreed upon not to be used in a casual game, but how about for a large tournament, say, Nationals? Or even better, a sealed tournament?
Is it the same rule as planetary conditions? Do you have to play them at all? Can you use the same mission over and over?
Lots of questions left unanswered about official play.
I don't really care for the idea much. But of course it all depends on how they end up working. I would gladly trade in this card idea for a bigger expansion, at least 20-30 more units instead of mission cards would be great.
Didn't they release another of these mission cards or at least mention one?
I think it was "Seek and Destroy" or something to where you choose another unit of the opponents, and you had to destroy that unit (I believe your opponent knows which unit as well).

WizKids may not have decided what path they are going to take with approved play. Remember, the game design team and the approved play team are separate entities (of course, they do talk to each other).
One thing I am sure about, though, is that they will be legal in tournament play and your opponent won't be allowed to just say "we aren't playing them this round."
Hmmm, maybe these puppies could spice up the story line events a little more, have specific goals for completing certain missions, on the counterside, have an opponent that has the opposite to your mission card. These sound intresting, but I agree with a few others. Will have to see what these things will be like in actual games and to see more of them in future previews.
Really want to see some more, I like it so far.....
I agree that they can add some much welcomed depth to the game as building armies now to actually complete a mission (for VC's) and of course outright win should get positively mind numbingly detailed (and thus for RTS fans like me, FUN)
and also I would like to point out what someone said in the earlier thread when these were announced (sorry I do not rememeber who): that now we will need to actually WATCH the board more than ever, as we attempt to figure out what mission our opponent is trying to complete on TOP of generally trying to win the game, should cause more concentration and lead to deeper games.
it was something like that, and I am geeked after seeing this first one, I admit it is a little lacking in depth itself, but I would not expect to see nothing but the runt of the mission card litter as we get started, I am sure the big dog is waiting for us, I am happy! :classic:
I think I'm glad these won't really affect regular tournament games much. Even if your opponent gets his special VC and VC3 if you get VC 1 and 2 you'll win.
However, it will affect larger tournaments and it seems to me they could add a lot of randomness. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Generally speaking, it won't affect much (except possibly rankings for who gets to go to the top table in a tournament), but every once in a while, there will be that situation where both players tie on VC1 (usually with zero points), player 1 wins VC2 (either by having more points in starting build, or by salvaging their opponent's units), and player 2 will get both VC3 and the Mission Card VC (VC4?), and thus, player 2 would be the winner.
That possibility alone means that the Mission Cards can't just be ignored - and makes them worth playing, since they appear to not have any actual downsides anyways.
