I hae to agree with Kotch on his points. One of the things I miss with the old campaign setting was the constant prize awards. Maybe its a function of how I was introduced to the game. Our group was 4 players. The first couple weeks, the prizes were awarded per normal. However once someone received a prize they already had, then it got handed off to someone who didn't have it yet. By the end of the month, all of us had received the prizes and nobyd was really lacking.
I like the opportunity to win the same prize the third or fourth time as there is always someone at the venue (usually in the younger crowd) who needs/wants the prizes. Its great that they would get a shot at it after the top tier players have gotten it.
These days I usually take the oddball prize that goes with one of the other prizes. (say Consueula when the Loki is a prize) The pilot gets handed to the person who takes the loki. Its a win/win for everybody.
Sometimes you have to look at these decisions from a play group perspective rather than a lone player perspective.

Several times I've 'traded' units that I already had for the gold version. For instance, I took the gold Dagmar and put my silver one in her place. This gets me my all-gold mech and gives someone else a fairly kick-### pilot. Everyone wins. :)
Oddly enough, that was the way our venue worked too. I find having extra prizes to aim for helps keep the interest of all players.
Beware because otherwise, being a good sport and losing (but getting fellowship) means often you get a better prize than 2nd place does. That is a disincentive to do well. I recall someone said last week "I either have to win, or lose BIG and be really nice about it!"
At least extra prizes means that 2nd place may still get a decent shot at a decent prize.
And repeating prizes has much the same impact.
Otherwise you have to feel sorry for the poor schmuck who always comes second ...
I'm sure nobody is disputing that it is worth more. It was more the sad comment. Why is it sad that they are rarer and thus more valuable than the 'Mechs? Isn't that good? Isn't that the idea of prize support?
Cause it's mechwarrior not cardwarrior. I'd rather have a new flashy shiney plastic man to roll my dice around than an in-company ripoff of POTSM.
I love the cards, don't get me wrong, they add huge depth to the game now, but it IS a little anti-climactic to win a tourny and get a card after 2 years of getting a mech.
You can get the 'Mech. Just because it's fairly common doesn't make it worthless if you intend to PLAY it. If it is worthless for resale but useful in the game then I'm made up.
2 of the 3 prizes are 'Mechs. The card is rarer but it's still useful.
That's sad.
Just goes to show some people will not be happy no matter what you do.
I've got the mech, infact, i've got both of them, everyone who plays here has them.
Not many people have that card, and the CEC is quite useful yes. That makes it technically worth more than the mech. Mostly cause those mechs have been handed out like candy.
The card, is, as far as gameplay, and variety's sake goes, is worth more. And that makes me sad, that these really good mechs are worth less (as far as gameplay goes and collectability goes, I don't sell me stuff on ebay), than that really good card.
I am happy, but I am sad that everyone is pretty much like, "Eh, malice and loki." and going, "#### that's a nice card."
And I'm happy for the same reason. The 'Mechs were common enough that it's not too hard to get one. And after the 'Mechs have been got, they go for the (rarer) cards. Sounds perfectly good to me.
One thing that's nice about the cards being 'rarer' than mechs is that the mechs are so much more useful. Esperanza and Peacemaker are both stellar in their own right. Reengineered Laser is a highly niche piece. Running a mech 'naked' or with gear other than the usual (Experimental Pulse is popular on Esperanza) is much easier than jamming J. Random Gear onto a mech.
I'm trying not to complain, but four months in a row is a bit much for one prize, even a good one. I'd have liked to see some different prizes on the third month much less the fourth. I'm not a mech-o-phile like some people here (in that I can be perfectly happy with a good card as prize) but I personally feel like a kid that has been given 50 lbs of chocolate. You're overjoyed at first but then you get really tired of chocolate and end up trading 5 lbs for a single peice of bubble gum. (NOT AN EBAY analogy, really!!)
It's basically too much of a good thing. I hope we have a little more diversity next set. But still WK this is way better then when we got the same unplayable pieces for prizes for 3 months. It's definately an improvement. Thank you for that at least.
I would have been a bit happier to see a Rokubari(I do not know how to spell that...)or a Shiro or two as prizes. Being that Firepower was supposed to be Kurita's step into the game, would it not make sense for most of the prizes to be Kuritan?
Smaller sets = less prizes.
Smaller sets = Less pieces for factions.
Smaller sets = Less competition.
Welcome to the world of smaller sets. Annihilation won't change that either you will get all of the prizes for it in a month. Then spend the next 3 months #####ing about how you keep winning the same prizes all over again.
did notice the shiro was only 2 b won 2 times i believe the rokorukibi (or whatever) 2 or 3, but loki about 4 times, the malice 3 or 4, the novacat only 2 times (believe her pilot 3 times, and the malice pilot 2 times or 3, there isnt exactly a balanced number of matching stuff, and almost all the le gear (the ones u would ve pulled with the silverbased ones are 1 or 2 times, like additional heatsinks and enhanced imaging but so far i can tell only 1 command, 1 reengeninered laser. concussion ammo i think same story as i havent seen vibro blade yet (might b sept? aint sure)
still while we received loads of mechs this set (and majority kick ### knights) from on annilihation we d only see mechs as prizes for the Marquee/Call to Arms if the venue u play at orders 2 cases, our group here is small we have about 7 people who play regularly, and only 4 have means to buy new product (me inc) ok 1 half a case for the sealed event and the other half would b bought by me and the other 3, but if she d order 2 she would still be left with more then half by the time Domination gets released.
so looks like from the new AP changes we d only get the le cards and just need to see if i ever get one of those pieces as envoy support and ad it to the pool as cool prize. still i am gonna try and see if there s a way to avoid this problem (example if one store orders 3 cases , not likely, and we order 1, thats 4 for the distributor, but i fear it goes per venue, if prizesupport was still being handled by our distributer we d have a bigger chance but its again in the hands of wizkids (advantage they re on time and dont need to pay shipping to the distributor for sending the package)
