My current Theory

The Steel Wolves will join House Steiner.

After the events in the Blood of the Isle novel, Anastasia Kerensky decides the Steel wolves are in way over their heads with the Jade Falcons. So she heads home to get reinforcement from Clan Wolf. Who knows maybe she might have succeeded too if not for the intervention of Jasek Kelswa-Steiner.

Pretty boy Jasek beats Anastasia in some inane clan trial and in doing so proves to Clan Wolf that the Steel Wolves are soft degenerates that have no place in the clan. But, the CW can't allow the Jade Falcons to take Terra either. What's a psychotic crusader clan to do? OH, I know! "Let's invade the Republic and race the Green Turkeys to Terra!"

All the while, Kerensky is fuming. And we all know what happens when Anastasia get mad. She gets very mean. And she has two targets for her anger, Jasek and Clan Wolf. Unfortunately, she doesn't have the resources to mess with either. She can't call on her Steel Wolves nor would she trust them, not with their loyalty to Clan Wolf and House Steiner (who had been cuddling them while they nursed their wounds). Lucky for her there are other forces in the universe that don't want to see the Wolves or any clan take Terra. Kell's Hound, Wolves in exile, and even covertly House Steiner secretly fund the Wolf Hunters. The plan is to use the mercenaries as a spoiler unit against clan aggression in the Republic.

So where does this leave the Steel Wolves? Well, the ones Kerensky could trust she takes with her to form the Wolf Hunters, leaving the rest of the surats to their own ends. Leaderless, broken and hunted the Rusty Puppies begin to fold until a charismatic savior appears. Lo and behold, its Jasek with promises of renewed hope, honor and glory in the Steiner Armed Forces.

Looks like House Steiner is not allowed to keep the dog after all. The legitimate owner showed up.

Heheh. They trotted out WH with the question "who do they really fight for?". They may well be just another secret advance force for CW. There's certainly precedent. Though they may end up not refolding; Ana K. isn't likely to want to give up leadership, for starters.
