To add even a little more to CCAF's list there is this for low to consider
R10 Mechaninzed ICV
Anat APC
Towed Gauss Rifles
Fulcrum Havy Hovertank
MHI AA Defense Tank
Paladin Defense System
Long Tom Artillery
Arrow IV Artillery Tank
Miniguns --- Before there was the ATVs, there was the Miniguns.
Simians --- 10" JJ, they multirole between battle infantry and harasser.
Garrot --- fast cheap cap 3 transport, great for infantry drops
Shun --- very fast cap 2 transport, great for infantry drops. Both Shun and the Garrot makes better transports for TGRs and LRMs drops than the Zahn or R10 due to large rear arc.
R10 --- robust cap 3 transport with reactive armor, only Vanguard R10 with the durability of AoD R10s.
Kelswa --- It's not the best Kelswa around, but the 24 def of FP Kelswas was probably over the top. Still it has a healthy 22 defense. I like the fact that it can multitarget for 2 with its 14". Second to the WH Kelswa among Domination Kelswas. Full 360 firing arc.
Hui-what's his name---Another solid tank with streaks, no minimal range, multitargeting.
Tokugawa---short ranged, but homing beacon gives it an 11 attack. An 11 attack on a tank drop is the equivalent of a 12 attack mech on AO.
TGR --- 14 inches of formation goodness. Kind of like the BR TGR but beefed up.
LRM --- 12" formation assist for the lower budget.
Sniper Team --- 12" formation assist for the lower budget.
Ravagers --- Nasty fellas with AP.
Kites --- Vehicular harassers
Enyo --- A bit short ranged compared to CNC Enyos but you got 3 pulse and 9IT. Gets really nasty if the target is a Green unit (8 damage potential).
Anat --- Cheap fast cap 2 transport.
Mechs in addition to those mentioned
Anubis --- With Sang Wei pilot, give you the ability to create a very cheap RHDM. That's 24 defense for 123 points.
Mjolnir --- Its a great close combat light with evade and rapid strike. The Mjolnir and the Violator makes good wingmen for a focused close combat army with Danai.
Violator --- Nasty close combat mech but very focused in what it plans to do.
Avalanche --- A very well rounded medium mech. Got short range punch, long range sniper ability with Homing Beacon, a decent 21 defense which is high for a medium mech, and a dial longer than some heavies. In some way this mech feels more like a heavy disguised as a medium.
Goshawk --- A great Dust Storm mech. Very cheap for a solid 10 attack 21 defense stats.
Cornerstone --- This Shen Yi is a nightmare for infantry with its AnP. Gear shifts to Artemis later in the dial. With 10 attack to start wtih, with a very long 14-15 clicks of life on the dial, it's a bargain for 190 points.
Firefly --- I like this mech for its versatility and mobility.
Ascension --- Not as great as Yen Lo Wang, more valued for its pilot card. The command however, comes handy at times and Liao hasn't had a command mech for a while.

I think he is good mech. Although I have problem too with him being an offense threat but I found he is really a good decoy with his speed and defense especially with Aaron in it. It can be use as a bait for your opponent to focus on him while your rest of your group can set up an attack while it can stay alive taking fires.
Peacemaker Malice: Who doesn't love point defence
BF Malice: the high range and AP rivals the puppies
Solitude: Granted it's limited except when Levin is riding it, but the idea of having a 15 attack is too hard to ignore.
Esperana Loki: It's still a power piece which has lost a bit of shine.
BF Mangonnel: 6 dmg on a heavy is not easy to ignore just wish it had a SE
Hellion: My favorite light mech.
Kelswa: 24 defence. nuff said
Di towed artillary: Easy to hit pog
Sniper artillary: Love the impact range
Po heavy tank: anyone who has faced knows if it gets near hindeirng you might be screwed
Bishop Transport Vtol: cheap 3 cap
Scout ATV: Good Baser
Minigun cycle: good and cheap baser
Shock Troops: best in the game, AP, It and JJ.
This is just off the top of my head. If anyone else has anything feel free to add on.
"Schmutzvogel" w/ Paul Udet (loves to blow up, but a very, very good ballistic platorm)
"Unsterblich" w/ Brice (other than GS Brice; very useful ability on a very repairable 'Mech)
Mad Cat Mk IV
Phantom War Raptor II (adds Armor piercing to arsenel)
Let me reel some people back into some reality. EVERYONE IS GOING TO FEEL DIFFERENTLY ABOUT THEIR FAVORITE PIECES!!!
I feel that Sunfire shouldn't be on a list, but it shouldn't matter since you should post what you think is on YOUR best list.
That being said. The Following for Highlanders
Highlander Leala Banach - Jupiter
Highlander Kelswa (nice with formations using low defences)
Highlander Kinnols (14 in range with streaks)
Highlander Sniper Team (pretty colors on dial)
Highlander Kazazuchi BA (Flamers)
Highlander Elemental BA (Anti-Personnel)
Following for ROTS:
ROTS Command Lance (Peacemaker, Esperanza, Audrea, Duke & pilots)
ROTS Solitude + Jonah Levin
ROTS Zahn Transport
ROTS Bishop Tranport
ROTS Acheilus BA
ROTS Oni BA
ROTS Bike squads (ATV, mini, and track)
ROTS Combat Techs
I have Steiner as well but most of what everyonme else was saying is what I like as well. I would only add the Stormhammer Sniper Tanks into the midst.
Any unit that has survived a game is "THE BEST" in my book!:devious:
Flavio survived a few of my games (I just play him because I don't have much Liao). I am not sure if I was lucky or if the opponent feel that he is not a threat or feel sorry that I had to use him on my army.
u know the more pieces you throw out, the more you dilute the "best" adjective. There can only be a few "best" pieces.
though i hate to agree with a scrub, however this is a very muddy thread. everyone has their personal favs, not every fav would make a competitive army.
the "best" pieces are when your battleforce works in synergy. an army could be full of "best" pieces however in the hands of an inexperienced or inept scrubby commander like MechThran it falls flat on its face... :) :) :)
Any unit that has survived a game is "THE BEST" in my book!
They probably weren't interesting enough to be a target, or they were simply out of range. But as Norcross said, opinions on what are the "best" pieces vary. Hell, even the definition of "best" is rather fluid.
