Actually, the price of one HD Shamash is equivalent to the price of three SH ATVs (or SH Miniguns). They aren't the best of the breed, but they still infiltrate and are dirt cheap, too. So, it's up to you.
Then again, I have been the only one to use Plasma Gun in my venue to the best of my knowledge, but it toasts ATVs good! :devious:
Aye, Plasma Gun is a thing for ATVs to worry about. However, I see PG as more of a tool to make a primarily-energy medium mech more versatile. I'd expect to see it on a stalking spider assuming the person wasn't running decoy, IT, or PPC cap on the spider.
Also, that means the plasma-gun-packing-mech is shooting at your ATVs instead of something more useful. As with all harassers, the key is to make sure you get some use of them before they're gunned down. And oh, the ATVs and Shamash are gonna die. My theory's just that the ATVs win based on energy-resistance, and again, the plasma-gun-mech has to be spending orders shooting 15pt infantry rather than something more valuable.
Plus, you're spending your medium's gear slot on a flippin' Plasma Gun. Sure, it's a nice surprise gear, but energy weapons can't use AnP, and not only are you using orders to pop 15-point infantry, you are then gear what, for most mediums, is anywhere from 170-200 points of your army for anti-infantry work.
Yeah. Keep the Plasma Guns home and use some good old-fashioned ballistics, and pimp out your Stalking Spiders with Decoy, Pulse, or PPC Cap.
