I never had any problems with the quality of the models, nor have I ever intended not to -try- it because of the sculpts.
To me, WizKids have been fighting an uphill battle from the beginning, and they are doing a good job at showing CBT players that MWDA was not going to be as bad as we had thought. Paractically everything they have showed us (Besides these two 'Mechs) has been good, and while many are still going to give it a shot, its just a gripe myself and many others have.
If 'Mechs are considered uniques, I'm gone then and there. Fortunately, though, that's not the case. Every Booster is going to contain 1 'Mech, 2 Vehicles, and 1 infantry/Battlearmor figure. From my observations, it seems that uniques would be similar to MK's LE figures. For instance, the Mad Cat (Timberwolf) figure may have an A Variant as Green, B Variant as Veteran, C Variant as Elite, and then have Vlad Ward's personal variant as Unique. (This is of course an example, Vlad Ward will be dead in MWDA, and each of the Mad Cat Variants will be for different factions).
I think the uniques may be more like the Heroclix unique arrangement. In that, lets say the have a Centurian battlemech. a green, a regular, and a veteran version. Then Yen-Lo-Wang would be a unique version. I have no special insight, but that seems to make the most sense to me.
well personally I will buy this game but I think the starter is a bit of a rip-off, I mean for 25.00 bucks all you get is ONE mech and some vehicles and stuff I would rather buy a 2 10.00 boosters getting TWO mechs and having 5 bucks left over.
hopefully they appeal to clan-loving fellows by naming the mad cat the "timberwolf" (if owned by clanners) and "mad cat" (if an appropriated IS varient) summoner, dire wolf, and mad dog would also be nice...i won't get all fed up if they don't but it would be nice...
I wonder if you'll need a starter, I mean WK usually offers the rules and stuff online to download. Unless there's a specific die or tool needed to play that only comes with the starters.
well...it always helps to be able to pull out an SA card rather than DL them...and the measuring tape and such is cool...also starters have a nice uniques ration (at least in MK) compared to boosters...
And if my hunch is right, and I'm fairly confident it is, the starter will come with a map... because LOS'ing articulated hips and torsos would be a pain in the ### without some sort of grid to help.
Now if they are -really- trying to make this like CBT, it would be hexmaps on the size scale of Crimson Skies (which has big enough hexes for the "titan" sized base). it would also mean that you could use CBT mapsheets, although I have a feeling that the game will feature a simplified height scheme...
I still hope that VTOLS and aerotechs in MW: DA use Heroclix's flight base.. because with that, you can show different levels of elevation, even though HC doesn't use it. It would be awesome and simple.
IMO that is unfortunate...as i am a very big fan of the "tabletop" style of mage knight, i like it because i don't need to buy map packs...and i hope MWDA doesn't change that...
No, its using the same movement system as MK. 'Mechs will probably just have a 270 degree arc rather than having to eveball because of torso twists. It would just be assumed that the 'Mech can do as such.
We haven't been told the movement system, Cyberstorm, only that some units are going to be relying -heavily- on terrain (jumping, camo, ECM..). If they were going to be faithful to CBT, they would make it on maps.. it isn't that hard to just lay down a hex map and then place N-scale terrain on top of it... in fact, my local gaming store has a 30 dollar map that would be big enough for that... =)
Plus, MK can go to a map-based system pretty easily, where 1" of movement = one hex. That's why the number on it is generic, it can mean anything. in MK, it means inch; in Dungeons and Heroclix, it means square.
from the look of HeroClix, Conquest, and now MWDA, it seems like units will have the 360 arc...it is really a great idea, and speeds gameplay considerably, and if you look @ the promo mech...it has no arc...same with the others, denoting to me a 360 arc...
