No, it shoots alright, but Draddog was talking about the other little guys, not the MK figs. If you go really close with your nose then you might see them move, tiny little men standing there and aiming through the embrasures.
The reason he would stand guard in a castle would be to provide moral support because he has the flag, be a rallying point for units that are destroyed, and also to let the enemy know kind of early, if they are coming over a hill, that someone is guarding the castle and that they WILL take casualties, if he has something to do with it.
Neat little figure, polearm and WM.......I like the fact that they're putting figures into these packs to help drive the sales and toss out a few easy to get LE's.
Great marketing move. They will sell many more sets since players will want the figure more than the castle piece. I forsee all future accessories like this having a special figure. Notice that the gatehouse, keep, & conquest rules all have them.
It certainly worked on me. I had no intention of buying the castle pieces but now I must. I love dungeons and want that hero! :)
Looking at the fig in the pic, it has a Hero symbol but I can't see KI. I think if it was the first dual faction hero they would mention that. It also does not say anything about having Forced March. A guy that is supposed to guard a gate, would have no use for Forced March.
Since the Gatehouse can be used by all armies, it only makes sense to include a figure that works the same in all armies.
I am pretty sure that it will be a dual faction hero. There is a trend of making all the new heros dual faction, such as the dual faction hero LEs for sinister, and the dual faction heros coming in the new quest packs. And this is a figure designed for conquest, not dungeons. So I would think that they would design it to work with another faction, and from the fact that they reused a KI sculpt, I would think that they would make him KI. And I know that it probably doesn't have Force March because it doesn't fit the character, but then why would they use the sculpt from a figure known for it's awesome force march. If it's just a good fighter with sweep then weapon master, why not use another sculpt that fits the whole fighter style, like an LE of the Unlimited Temple Blademaster sculpt? Just my thoughts.
It's not a standard bearer. They have reused sculpts from regular figs to make LEs since the beginning. They have also started using molds from Ral Partha to make Mage Knight figures. Some of the heroes that people swear belong to one faction or another were not even sculpted for Mage Knight.
I never heard of Ral Partha before I read Jordan Weisman's Bio. What is it? What was it? What sculpts are from it? Hey saving money is a great idea when you run a company. Don't knoch WK for doing it. I want them to succeed.
Ral Partha has been making fantasy miniatures longer then I have been playing RPGs, and I started in 84. Somebody longer in the tooth then me might know when they started.
They made some really great minis. The quality was good and some of the sculpts were just awesome. They were also the company that did the Battle Tech minis. Ral was not doing so hot so FASA, the makers of BattleTech, bought them out. It appeared to me that this let FASA do some better work with their BT line but the fantasy line slowed down, if not stop completely. The fantasy game that Ral Partha was publishing, Battlestorm, was cut and is now supported by it's designer (I had the rulebook for that but never played it).
FASA was bought out by WizKids. This gave WizKids the rights to the fantasy minis Ral Partha had been making over the past few decades. They have been turning some of them into Mage Knight characters.
Nobody said this was a bad thing. Saving money helps keep the prices down. Ral had a lot of great sculpts that would be awesome as MK minis. I wish I could make a list of which MK minis are Ral sculpts, but I am having a hard time getting pics of the old Ral minis. Tons are for sale at online stores, but no pics on the websites.
I just think it's funny when people claim Lord Oren just has to be Knights Immortal and they wonder why he does not have the Knights Immortal symbol. Lord Oren was sculpted by Ral Partha and was not even intended for use with Mage Knight. He just looked cool so they put him on a clickey base. And just cause an elf has a flag does not mean he has to have forced march, or be part of KI. I guess if I wear a Phillies ball cap I am pro ball player.
Look at Bassan closer, it's elven recruit w/ standardbearer's flagpole.
Dual faction probably. After Gatehouse, next is Castle Keep it comes with Lord Maakha, that I'm most curious about. After playing dungeon scenarios, I wondered if Wizkids would make actual figure and they did. :)
Yes, please do look close at the figure. Look between his legs at the base. The faction symbol of the figures released lately were printed directly opposite the combat dial window. If the figure is dual faction, they place one symbol to the right and one to the left of the center, with a very tiny amount of space between. Look opposite the windows, through the center dot, and tell me how many faction symbols there are. If he was dual you should be able to see both symbols, there is enough room.
"The KI symbol is behind his leg." Not unless they are printing this base different then all the other dual faction figures. You are looking at the figure just slightly to the left of center. Try and draw a straight line that goes through the center of the windows, the center dot and goes completely left of the hero symbol, as it would have to be if the figure was dual faction. If you can't then the figure they took a picture of was not dual faction.
If he does turn out to be dual-faction then it was done after this particular figure was made. That is entirely possible.
well, yesterday now. he has one hand from a Standard Bearer, and the sword arm of an Elven Recruit, but the rest is new. The detail of the paint job is excellent(at least on mine) and he is Hero only.
