My friends use red and green bingo chips that have a little metal band around them. Nothing cool about that except for that they also have a little wand with a magnet on the end that they can use to pick up the chips when they are starting a new turn.
These may have been out for a while & common knowledge, but I had never seen them before.
If you go to the Conquest area at the WizKids site and look at the Castle/Conquest Battle report you'll see they are using metal bits about the size of pennies with faction symbols on them as action counters.
Oh yes, I just saw those counters today at the venue. I was wondering why they were selling Ral Partha merchandise near the Mage Knight section. I guess they were counters with faction symbols on them. It wasn't very recognizable as having something to really do with Mage Knight rather than an accesory.
Normally, I just use glass beads (pokemon counters, hehe). Unfortunately, that got confusing when I was using one token for action, 2 for pushed, and my opponent was using yellows for actions and blues for pushed..
One time I forgot to bring tokens, so I used some M&M's instead (venue has one of those charity vending machines, 20 cents for a handful of M&M's.. we'll never be without counters again.)
I have also used Tiny Dice (like the ones that come with Warhammer Quest), they're good because they fit on the actual base of the figure, leaving no confusion about who the action is on.
I've introduced the 2 color penny into my venue and almost everyone uses them. My personal tokens are pennies with AG symbols on both sides of them, one side red, one side blue.
It's important to use 2 different colors so you can tell who moved this turn and who moved last turn. If someone pushes you just drop another penny on top of the last color used. When you're done with a blue turn, pick up everything you see that's red, when you're done with a red turn, pick up blue.
Using label making paper and paint shop pro, 50 pennies with my own design took me 2 hours to create.
