This post was started to talk about how what people thought of the ability 42 up i am going to have to say that these pieces were made for pierce i mean i dont know about you guys but my friends are always useing something with BA/INV/T and let me tell you it is well worth it i dont know about the huntress but the Thunder golem is just sick i dont see how you can say the Thunder golem is bad the thing has stood toe to toe with a stormy and how can you give the 8th piece that does over 2 clicks with a 14 range bad i did not think that it was possible to do that if you give the piece the poper support then it is a beast of deadly propotions
I believe Pierce is a somewhat useful ability, and I certainly hold it in higher regards than Magic Freeze, but trying to build an army around it is silly.
Since you will only be encountering figures that actually have Battle Armor or Toughness some of the time, and Invulnerability rarely if at all, you are paying an increased cost for ranged figures that only have an advantage some of the time. The rest of the time, they amount to overcosted and unremarkable ranged attackers.
In my eyes, the Amazon Huntress is a sub-par unique. She's certainly not in the lowest bracket that includes such awe-inspiring figures as the Necromancer and Martyr, but at her cost I would simply much rather have the Amazon Queen of the same faction.
The Thunder Golem on the other hand is a bit more useful in my eyes, if only in larger games. His slow movement and small arc are a problem, but his 14" range and monstrous durability can really pay off when he goes toe-to-toe with other high cost uniques like the Stomper or Striker.
pierce is kinda of a good abliltiy cause consider this you may not use the figure for that pierce ability but in tournments you fight all different armys so if you are like my friend and build a strait range army and happen to be using tunder golem then you have a large range hitter with high damage and in case some ones army has battle armor or anything else your tunder golem can take them out with more ease getting you more point quicker
I think pierce is a quite useful ability if it's on a cheap fig with decent range and attack value eg. Snurga but thats the only fig that fits the bill atm. The other figs that feature pierce don't really profit from it or have other weaknesses that prevent me from fielding them ( Thundergolem with his 90 arc ... ).

well.... with that philosophy, you might as well play nothing but swiss.
?? The guys saying that he's building a straight range army using a Thunder Golem, but because he has pierce it becomes even better against the figures with INV, BA, Toughness, etc.
Pierce is a strong ability, Tanks and Dragons are strong but when your taking a shot at a castle quite often your attack is around the 10 range, with Inv the defense goes up to a 18, not so easy to hit.
Then a Thunder Golem Comes along, only needing a 4(I think he has 12 attack...) and blasts a hole in the side of the tower while the Tank misses when he rolls a 7.
Pierce is a usefull ability, is it as good as MB? Of course not but that doesn't mean its totally worthless either.
I like the ability, but don't like most figures with it.
Thunder Golem and the Huntress are not among my favourite uniques, I wouldn't play any of them.
Now, I think Athene will be great for her points, and a formation of Launchers and Snurga is pretty nasty. Slow, that's true, but that's where the Piper fits perfectly.
I have tried the Impaling Golem ** in some larger battles, and it works fine. Unfortunately, not good for smaller games.
Pierce will rule conquest, and there´s no match against those Orc Launchers....they are the top ranged striker of the Horde and those who overlook the ability are blind. There are many figures with battle armor, and if you see the most played figures, almost every one has some kind of defensive ability....just see the Ratchetkruggs and such....so pierce,or get pierced.
Athene is very good, definetly one of the best(if not the best) Pierce figures out there. Her arc isn't huge and only has a 10 attack but with Pierce she'll still only need around a 6-7 to hit most figures for a brutish 4 damage!
