1) Well the frothing one thinks troops should break more easily.
In real war soldiers are loyal like these figures holding their ground steadfast until a moment before death. "real" guys think about the logic of charging a tank for "the good" of their general.
2) some more double blind things need to happen.
a general doesn't have full accounts of the whole scenario, and many battles have not been won by not pressing on, or darkness coming, or just plain foolish luck. They might have some loose role for random stuff or reinforcements or something.
3) battles aren't even to start with.
it's silly to play battles with 200 points on each side and just charging at each other. General's always look for the advantage, somebody might be dug in... there could be a surprise attack. The senarios are helping that concept.
MK is a story told about a battle withnessed by somebody,
many things happen, but not all are seen:
a steamer shot three times before putting a shot in the target and blow it away. (multi barreled launcher with 20+ unguided shrapnel shots)
Attack 11 4 damage
the khamsin fuser shots his last bullet while lying in the floor covered on it's own blood after taking four clicks and maybe will be dead in a few minutes (the guy attacks 5 and does 1 damage).
a nightstalker moves so fast (due to vampire powers) that he stabs you 20 times and you can't see him (and we call it weapon master)
those are the holes in MK "reality"
bu if your'e looking for real stuff, play nintendo or Paintball (it's cool)

MK is a ton of fun and a great game in all but does anyone else think it is too unrealistic. I mean cmon I can deal with fantasy and stuff nut atlantis and BP should rule the game. They are much more high tech but they should be a lot more points. Even a draconum would have a hard time beating up on machines I dont know I just think they need to change the standards in the future
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
Or should we have a discussion on the square-cube law, structural integrity, and ground pressure and how it all proves that a battlemech, etc, etc are all impossible as well? :)
The game rules are totally unrealistic. The action system, in particular, has no basis in reality. (it has it's basis in certian historical wargames..)
The fact that three gunners attacking individually do more damage than three attacking in formation is totally unrealistic.
The fact that two figures cannot move in formation, three can, five can, six can't, is totally unrealistic.
To me, this does not matter one bit. I have a friend who refuses to play the game because of it. To each their own..
right now the game is as close to reality as it can get without making the rules very complicated. Wizkids aims for a simple, easy to learn, easy to play game. although i would agree that making formation attacks should inflict more damages, so thats what they made the rule changes in conquest, they improvised the rules that they feel are unrealistic and made a step forward. they will continuously improvised the rules to move towards more realistic gameplays but at the same time they are avoiding making the game too complicated to play.
These are basic gunpowder mechanisms you would see during the Renaissance era when it was just being introduced into a practical military invention. These golems seem to follow simple instructions, or do not get the jist of things, they are basically comanded like simple toys. They are strong in their morale and will not fall easily. This is the reason why they seem stronger than some other figures. To tell you the truth, the Knights are used better for swarms and can not usually take on a Golem one on one, which are usually quite hard. These are some of the top of the line machines that they use in Mage Knight. The rotary fuser should be good with the Vulcan Rotory(sp?) Cannon that it has, which was not around until right after the Civil War, atleast that is what I think I remember. I can not get some stuff such as steam horses or steam rams, but I guess they are similar to the machines they have Bull strategy stock conventions ;). Ofcourse Mage Knight isn't real, atleast it might not seem real, this is put into a type of perspective. If you can see the game from a different angle and how the rules are just notations for real complex battles, maybe it can seem somewhat more realer.
if golems are supposed to be mindless automatonsl, then why does both the Storm Golem and maelstrom Golem both have command? that would seem to indiacate that golems do possess some sort of reasoning skills
Mage Knight is a fantasy game, and should be unrealistic, otherwise, why would people want to play the same old "you can't do this because its impossible" kinda game?
GodMagnus-maybe they're programmed to be able to command troops. Just a thought.
I ask again... WHY IS THIS EVEN A DISCUSSION??? Wanting MK to be more realistic is like wanting a pen that you can drive to work. The two were never meant to mix, so stop trying to fit them together! If you want realistic wargaming, there are TONS of historical war games out there. If that's not good enough for you, join the Army/Marines and participate in some of their battalion sized combat training ops. If THAT'S not good enough for you, join the Foreign Legion and try not to get your balls shot off.
If you want realism, do the above. If you want to have simple fun playing with cool, little make-believe plastic figures, play MageKnight.
I like going to the source to find out why things do not look right and I instantly decided that Anunub was the best choice.
He told me that due to the amount of magestone needed to move the weight around, he had to make the shell a bit thinner and somewhat vulnerable to sword strokes. It is tough, but still vulnerable. They use a lot more magestone for the Mealstrom and Storm golems. Unfortunately, he can build many more golems if he uses less magestone on each.
He has built in some magical recordings on the larger golems that strike fear into his forces and gets them to push themselves harder. Unfortunately, this does not create a constant flurry of action.
of course its not real. it is a simple game that has quick play. if you want realism go play somthing else. yes, it is weird that you cant move in groups of two or you have to be in the same faction to help attack, but it keeps things simple.
