Hey has (or is) anyone used the **Utem Garudsman instead of the **Altem Garudsman? I see the Utem is better for this scenario, instead of being down by 33 points your down only 13. You want 66 points? Well good for you, I would prefere to lose 13 (or 26, or 39) points and still have a better chance at winning then losing 33 (or 66, or 99) points. And I'm not spending 75 points on techno's just to get a 13 point guy off the board, i'm spending 50 for yo-yo and ram, it just so happends to be a bonus that I can levitate my little messanger closer to the edge thats all.
The bpr won at my venue that the side I playd for .I just played it like a regular game with my army it didn't matter if they got 66pts cause I just killed the rest of thier armies without losing any figs.
my army was
form1:
storm golem 15pts
*shamen X5 105pts
loner:
techun 96pts
295pts
If I went first I did this. I moved SG then I followed with the shamens(it costed 2 actions)
Then I moved techun after the messenger.
If I went second I, let the messenger go and went after my opponents best most valuable fig with techun and keptthe storm golem up right behind the center hinderring piece of terran. That way if any one wanted to shoot him they had to brake a 21 deffense.
I lost and got second place because I was 112pts less then the winner.
I actually think the scenario favors the black powder rebels. The BPR scored the majority of the wins when we played at our venue, and most of the messengers were slaughtered. BPR also won the tournament. ML was used to some effect, but, by using at least 75 points for three levitators, seriously handicapped the AG armies, as they had only an effective force of about 200 points. As mentioned already, in a 70 minute game, there's quite a bit of opportunity to do damage and rack up points.
The next week's scenario once again favors the offensive side. I think properly constructed Atlantis forces will dominate given the special scenario rules. I hope that people do not decide or are allowed to defect.
I'm going to be playing a Bone Toss army (detzombies) this sunday at our first scenario. I think wasting 75 points on 3 techno's just to levitate the fig off the table is overkill, since the techno's will probably be shredded by the bpr. I think there is going to be some confusion about how the game is played. I don't think the game is over when the messenger is off the board, like in the BoBH when you got back to your starting area. I'm just going to use a **Utem Guardsman and keep him back until I get most of the opposing army down, then start moving him around (with the techno's if I have too). Just my thoughts.
How did any of you handle having different numbers of BPR or AG armies? Also, if all the best armies were AG (or BPR) in your venue, how did you set up the rounds and run the finals?
As you can see only 2 levitators are needed, and after the messanger is sent you still are a hard force to take down. I frequently would keep the messanger close by until the last 10 minutes of the game. After the fighting got thick you can just chuck him in a corner and get him off the board.
As for using chargers to keep him from making it. You have to keep at least 2-3 chargers back to gaurd the edge. If you do so your army is seriously weakened and you can just go on the offense versus them.
I have 70 min. to take a stupid messenger to the other end of the table?I rather spend 14 pt. on an Uten and to make a killer army than to spent lots of points in levitators....of course,if I´m using Scorpen Gunners.....
If you want to take the guy on the other end,get a chariot and some long range hitters....go crawling and winning terrain to open a corridor on a side. Then run all you can!:)
Thanks to all who answered my question on levitating the messenger.
But i have to say, if you let the messenger go and take out the rest of the AGs, the AG has won the round anyway in the fact that their "pigeon got thru"
