I'm an undead kinda guy....plus the fact that on top of MB, MI...he has Magic Levitation...which has become the weapon of choice for many army types (Unfortunately :( ). He's not nearly as manuverable, but is a harder target to get to than either the destroyer or the drac. But hey, that's just my opinion.
I have to say that I like Lich. He's a great multitasker, he can MB and ML, plus he has the two slots of regeneration and invunerability near the end of his life. The only downside is that thanks to his 2 base damage he is next to useless in close combat. He should have had necromancy too
I like the Magus Drac. the best. You can hide it behind a Wind Minion and shoot out without fear of being shot back. I also like Draconum most (along with Mage Spawn).
I vote for Lich. He's a very powerful piece, and he's got a cool sculpt. The only problem is that he's tricky to support. I'm working on an army with Troll Artillerists instead of gunners and Fell/Nightmare Reapers.
I favor the Magus Drac. Maybe because I pulled mine my first day, maybe because I dislike the Solonavi (I plan to kill as many as I can), maybe because he's served me so well.
The Magus drac is mobile, with flight, and the MB/MI combo is very useful.
Yes, the Solonavi is more mobile, and possibly more durable, but I like my Drac. It's vey good all around. I generally don't bother with the ME, but if needed, it's very useful. Also, your opponents will try to base your MBer, no matter what, so having a mage who can handlehimself in close combat is very nice.
While the lich is multitalented, this is very much a failing as well as advantage. You have to choose between lev and MB. He's also slow, and according to my doctrine of war, Speed is of the utmost importance. Both of the others can get where they need to be quickly, regardless of terrain. Lich cannot. To give him a decent speed, you have to spend another 31 points on a bond maker. And, as mentioned previously, when a wily player bases him, he's screwed.
As others have said, speed is everything.. and nothing (cept corpheus) moves as fast by themselves as with the aid of a MLer.. really there is VERY little difference between the lich moving 6" or 8".. he would still have to rely upon his abilities to handle most figures out there..
True, his printed damage is low, but you should never be using that anyways, if something is b2b, just lev them into somehting else and let that thing take a swing at it's backarc. otherwise you should be rolling for damage.
Also, keep in mind that the magus drac may have a nice starting click, but once he goes down he dies rather quickly.. the lich has 2 clicks of regeneration that most people forget about! the lich doesn't like to die, and that is emphasized by his click of Invulnerability.
I'd gladly play a Lich army against a Magus Drac army. neither could shoot the other, but the lich can just throw the skeletons that I make at the drac.
