Originally posted by Kurt Weihs I'd be careful when accusing anyone of this practice. One of my local EB's has done the same thing to a few of the packs on their shelves. What happens is this - people come in and pry open the bottoms of the packs and look inside to see if the pack is worth buying. Rather than return the packs to Wiz Kids or selling the pieces individually they just tape them up and keep them on the rack.
What could be happening in your store is one buyer is coming in, prying open the packs and buying the best ones while letting you guys pick up the leftovers. I have become very careful when buying my MK stuff...if the bottom flap of the pack looks at all as if it has been tampered with I don't touch the pack. Lately I have been buying most of my packs through EBay. It's cheaper and more dependable. The local stores miss out on my dollars, but they haven't protected their product well enough to ensure I get a fair shot at the rares.
one problem, they are keeped in a class case, so no one has a chance to open them...the guy even tried shrink wrapping at one stage, so no one would notice....so far only around 4 people know...we will report him we think.
Originally posted by Maximillion Ask someone at the store why the bottoms are taped up. I would guess it's to protect the packs from being opened by customers, rather than by the store owner's tampering.
I think some packs now do come with tape on the bottoms to prevent tampering. Hero Clix, maybe?
As i said, they are behind a counter...i did ask the non warlord guy, he did not have a clue....and when he cut the selotape off, the top opened, so the packs were opened, so it would not have been to stop people opening em.
Originally posted by BadMonkey Ask to buy ones with the black stickers on them anbd if he refuses ask why? Just thought that might be a quick way to trap the warlord and if he doesn't have an answer then you will know he is cherrypicking.
good point, a black sticker pack is difficult to see though, but i willt ry my hardest...
Originally posted by MaGuS_777 Personally, I wouldn't piss anyone off, especially if he's the only Warlord in your area. I would just not buy any Boosters from the store and keep it to myself. Theres other ways of getting Uniques and Rares, like buying them online or trading them on the Realms.
The local Venue that I go to searched though all the Sinister packs before selling them. They felt for all the big ones in the rare slot and took them out before selling them. I told a close friend about that and kept my mouth shut otherwise. Therefore, I wasn't getting ripped off while not pissing anyone off.
I'm just telling you what I did in a somewhat similar situation. I know that this is just letting someone else deal with the Situation, but if he's the only Warlord in your area, and you still want to play MK.... Or you might try to gather some people that go to your venue to talk to him or the owner of the venue about the situation, and threaten to quit MK or report the Warlord. Make sure your sure that the Warlord is accually tampering with the packs first though. Good luck and I hope you make the right choice in your decision.:)
good point....i might play his game and say "i know u open the packs, give me some uniques otherwise i will report u!!"
