I love this game, i started back in the wee old days of rebellion. Ive been playing from the start, and i haven't looked back. I must have gotten at least 10-12 more people to play the game.
Nightspawn you sound like someone I know. Anyway on this thread, MK is really good. No wait. Make that great. I love the way this game plays. Now with Conquest you can field all the figures you have but dont like for your small time games. Plus painting your figs gives you somethng to do. When you just want to step back away from the killing. MAGEKNIGHT RULES!!!!
I have been hooked to MK ever since their Lancers expansion came out... I have never been entinced with MtG or any card or ccg games... My brother in law has been trying to hook me onto those games ever since they came out (90's).. I resisted for 10 years and declared there would be never a game that would woo me into spending my hard earned money. But know what.. Wizkids has successed.. Draining my funds and my savings to dust... hence giving me the awesome army and imagination filled wonders. What made it even more entinciting is that.... Never ending imagination and good strong community that we are currently in. And there is never ( I hope, knock knock on the wood) banned figures or such in tournament and such.. Unlike MtG there is lots of banned cards and loopholes and crybabies out there... MK brought upon various kind of creed, race, age and mentality together. And one small note.. I am deaf.. there fore playing at Mtg or any ccg games render me useless and I keep on feeling left out and bored... but MK, there does not require to have voice box..I can act like a orc and speak in orcish without feeling stupid! hAHAHAHAHAH! Long live Wizkids! If they went down in flame.... I don't think so because as long they hold the power of PHOENIX... It will araise again and be bigger than life itself!
The easy-to-learn rules and the innovative bases have made Mage Knight a true gaming sensation. It is a well-thought out game that, hopefully, will be here for some time.
Since the releases of Hero Clix and Mech Warrior, I've thought of a cool idea for the folks at Wiz Kids: World War II miniatures!
You buy a booster of German, British, etc. The figures could have similar special abilities:
1. Soldier with flamethrower: Flame/lightning
2. Lieutenant or Captain: Command
3. Platoon Sergeant: Forced March
4. Mortar: Magic Blast (because it requires no line of sight)
I have to agree, my 2 boys and I have become big fans of MK. It started off with a friend giving my oldest a booster set for his birthday about a year ago, and we haven't looked back. I got involved as a result of my boys interest. We have since built our armies up significantly, gone to Origins, GenCon and become a regular at our local venue. It's been lots of fun and although our success in winning is mixed we still enjoy the game. I can't say if it's something that will fade in a few months like so many other things that have held my boys interest, but we'll see.
Bottomline, WK has developed a very enjoyable strategy game that has attracted all age groups at a reasonable price. My only recommendation is that I think they should stay focused. I don't want to see the line diluted by a series of unrelated games that move away from the MK theme. Not only does it cause a dilution of players, but it raises the cost (i.e. Rebellion, Dungeons, HeroClix, MW, HeroQuest, Conquest Titans, etc.). Don't get me wrong...I enjoy some of the other series, but I try to stay focused on Rebellion. IMHO.
