To protect the Destroyer from rammers, I usually/always team her up with a *** Fell Reaper. When you arrive at your curtain wall, you can hide the Destroyer inside the Fell's peanut base and nothing can base you until they kill the Fell (which is immune to ram). This can/has work(ed) very well against range heavy armies, or MB deathstars because they cannot shoot you. I also find it interesting to spend the rest of your points on "basically" a completey different army. This offers your opponents two very "real" and "large" threats to deal with. I'm still working on find the best "alternate target" that would work the best with the Destroyer. Currently I'm fiddling with the OST or the Stomper but I haven't made up my mind. Thoughts? Good luck with your quest to use the Solonavi Destroyer (my brother made a very good army before Minions arrived).
That tactic does not work 100%. You can arrange the Destroyer in between the ends of the fells peanut base, but you cannot protect the Destroyer on both sides. It would take 2 fells to do this.
This has come up before on the realms. If you take a Destroyer, a mounted figure and an attacker (or 2), you can arrange the Destroyer against a wall, with the mounted figures base "stradling" the Destoryer base. Now put an attacker at each end of the fell. You can block 1, but not both ends. The attackers can still get to the Destroyer. You would need AT LEAST a mounted unit and a single base, or 2 mounteds or even an "L" shaped wall...[ag]
Thanks for the information FrostedOne, but I didnt mean it exactly like that. On my way up, I would use the Fell's base to cover the Destroyer from wherever my opponent's ranged figures were. Blasting all the way, lalala, bells on...oops...got carried away there...anyways..moving along. When I got to the wall, I would use the Fell's base to block for the Destroyer from which ever side my opponent chose to come. If my opponent was capable of having forces coming from around both sides, I could do many things. Including, but not limited to: basing the weaker agitator (preferably one that cannot break away, and if so, basing it with the Fell on the other side) and jumping the Destroyer over the wall, or out of the arc of the second attacker so I could blast it away; or calling the whole thing off and pulling back towards safety (either out of range, out of arc, or near supporting units). Obviously, these tactics have either not been tested, or been tested against "less capable" opponents. I hope to, within a week or so, try my ideas against "more capable" opponents.
