42Up: The reason why we kept the Damage down to 2 at the early slots was to discourage players from sending this guy in as an attacker. We wanted a guy who did Capture and Drown tactics instead, so we upped the Attack, but kept the Damage low.
At 90 points, he's at worst a very expensive Harrasser, but at best also an efficient predator. ;)
Lastly, yes, I agree Aquatic + LI isn't really a power combo, but I like Ronanov's idea of putting them together to make a swimming swamp creature.
rick: read the name and short background i thought of for the fig...
it's supposed to be a swamp dweller... now use your imagination and think of a really dark swamp with lots of dead or dying trees... fog, mist, gases comin out here and there... and his rotting flesh is dark like black... thus you can't really see him... got it? :)
Even better: crocodiles and alligators, because of the brown and green color of their skins, look a LOT like floating logs on the water, while they're standing still. Because of that, many animals approach the water without noticing the waiting and hungry crocs and gators...
Soon, there's one less animal in the swamp... :D
Anyway, Undead creatures have some sort of magic, so it's not surprising that most of them have LI (Zombie Baron, Vampiric Drac). Maybe they can turn themselves into something like ghosts, or they have power over darkness and shadows, or they cast illusions and the like. ;)
Oh, BTW, the revised Swamp Drac isn't Undead. It's a living, natural Drac that's simply taken residence in the Swamp. :) It's not even elite-factioned with the NS- it's just a Drac.
Ron: I just realized the genius of your Aquatic + LI combo, and recant what I said previously to 42Up. ;)
I just realized: the point of this Drac is its ability to capture and drown victims. Against guys with BF, Berserk or Command, we simply keep the thing in the water (preferably Deep Water), and have it spit at its opponents.
But here's the thing: unless your opponent has Aquatic figs of his own, as long as your Drac stays in the water and has LI on, he cannot be hurt or killed. With LI, range attacks are useless. Only Shockwave will thus be capable of hitting the Drac; but to use Shockwave, a fig will then have to get close to the water, making it prey for the Drac, either for capture/drown or by a range attack!
The only thing that's going to be totally proof to this thing are figs with Invulerability- which is perhaps the rarest ability on a fig in the game, except for Tormented Souls.
And Tormented Souls aren't capable of hurting this Drac in the water. ;)
Furthermore, this thing has a high enough points cost. With Deep Water, this fig is practically your "safety" fig. If your army gets wiped out, you can keep this guy in the water and know he's going to survive, salvaging 90 points for you. Even if he gets knocked out of his LI, don't forget his Regeneration- spaced such that a really lucky player can get him back all the way to his first slot!
He's been said to be undercosted for all his abilities. OK, fine, let's increase his points cost. Now you can really save points from your army in a losing game. :)
He's been said to be overcosted for his 2 damage only. OK, let's decrease his points cost: that means a very powerful and capable fig for even less than he's worth, giving you more points to buy other powerful or effective figs. ;)
And to top it all off, he's NOT BROKEN!!! It's not like he can destroy armies-single-handedly like Corpheus. At worst, he's cheap shot at your opponent, maybe cheesy, potentially abusive, even cowardly- but nevergame-breaking.
My goodness, I JUST WISH WK SEES THIS AND MAKES IT, AND EXACTLY AS HE IS HERE. PLEASE, WIZKIDS!!! MAKE THIS FIG!!!
