The boarder was the only target for sniper fire, and, either he was based with my figures ( this aspect is unclear in the rules, so, our warlord said if they were in base with one of your friendly figures, they were inelligable for fire ) or, the boarder was dead.
I lost to this army in the last second, and it was the only time i lost today, so, using figs that loophole the special rules was definetly a good idea.
However, FYI i won the tournie anyhow, to make up for the special rules, i just played three cheap healers, and my clurch piper soaked up all the sniper fire, and one of my many healers fixed em... worked real well...
I plan on playing some vampirism, like the vamp drac possibly, those figures are the only thing 'sides push-spawn that are supposed to take damage to get to their points worth.
I played against an army that focused on a vampiric draconum. a good choice really. Because it has limited invisiblitly. But, you soaking up damage theory is shot down there though. Necromancy is popular at my venue too, so, he is good for that aswell.
I built a regen army....and only me and my brother didn't hav strikers....and I only got 7 out of the about 30-39 chances I had.....it didn't go well.....
Just cureous, but I don't see in the rules where it says LI can't be targeted. It only mentions toughness, invul, etc. My impression is that a random shot by a sniper could hit a figure with LI. Looks like this may be subject to interpretation venue by venue. Any hard and fast rulings ?
LI wont work for 1 reason. LI only prevents a ranged combat attack, the sniper fire is not a ranged ocmbat attack, its just they get to select which figure takes 2 damage for each 6 rolled.
Still no answer to who gets the points if the fig gets wasted by sniper fire ONLY. If any warlord reading this thread could please answer this i'd REALLY appreciate it so i can relay this to the players at the tourney on tuesday.
Here's the straight and skinny on the sniper fire.
According to errata by Wizkids, it should definitely be Invulnerability instead of Battle Armor. Limited Invisibility does not protect against the sniper fire, because it is a special rule for the scenario and not considered a ranged attack. It is just considered damage. Dodge will work because it's specifically listed as a special ability that can negate the sniper fire.
If a figure is elimated by Sniper fire, the opponent gets the points because the sniper fire represents each team's snipers outside the board shooting at the opponent's army. Also, remember that you roll at the beginning of each player's turn. I played Saturday and some battles were determined almost exclusively by sniper fire.
As for my army, I used Gatelord, a Tormented Soul and a couple of nons for diversion. Both nons were taken out by sniper fire in every game I played, but Gatelord and Tormented Soul cleaned up my opponent's armies. I went undefeated but got second place because the first place was also undefeated and on my same side. As luck would have it, he was using some healers with Limited Invisibility and the warlord allowed LI to protect you from sniper fire.
I'm running the scenario this Wednesday and intend to run it by the rules as I've shown them above.
I am surprised that the Zombie Baron wasn't taking sniper hits. The scenario clearly states that only Toughness, Invulnerability (errated from Battle Armour) and Dodge are effective vs Sniper Fire....

Having a piece base-to-base with an opponent does NOT make it immune to sniper fire. Again, sniper fire is a board rule and does not respect the normal rules of ranged attacks.
This is also implied in the rules as stated in the scenario. For each six rolled, the player selects one of his opponents pieces to have the 2 clicks of damage directed towards. It says nothing about selecting any piece that is not in base with an opponent.
