Ahh the good old days: where I actually got to play.
There are no players left in my area despite many attempt to set it up. Mind you there are many people still buying the figures ?????
Here's right when MK was great:
It was in a certain issue of Scrye introducing MK and giving it awards and stuff, but it told u how to play a few dungeons maps. I custom made like 5 maps by drawing lots of 1x1 squares and I'll tell ya it was a blast. And tourneys were always balanced and I quickly gained an advantage through my capture tactics rather than the figs I had. Those days seem long gone now though.. but the game should rebound. The AD is bad, but this set seems to be enough to shut her up. And even still ppl will get over things, just waiting to see the Forums go up in insanity in 2 days.
Well, when MK came out i was unemloyed, but was able to get it when i found work. Unfortunately, my friends back home in Jersey were not into this, on top of that, the tourney scene was mostly dominated by kids who were never serious about the game. Then i had to move to Vegas and things improved and i got to play in more serious games and even won a few.
I was able to catch up on the older stuff and get all the uniques and even a few LE's.
All in all, i always like the fantasy gaming, and every set just brings out more stuff. I always played to have fun and if i win a tourney or 2 (even the NQ) it's just icing on the cake. When all is said and done it's just a game. All the sets have figs that will rarely if ever see the light of day for some people, but hey everyone has their likes and dislikes. The group i game with all just care about having some fun, thus my reason for likeing it. I'll always play MK until i can't afford to anymore at all.
Originally posted by Suavecito77 Ill continue to play as long as there'll be no banning of figures (type1) and as long as MK continue to balance the game (with rule changes). I have played a competitve Amazon Queen army in the midst of newer, more powerful fig like Corphy and AD. Thats what i like and keeps me playing MK.
WK continuing to balance the game by removing ML totally ?
So úberbound has free reign of the table.
maybe I missed something.Rolleyes:
you won with Amazon Queen vs. Adrac/Corpheus, well then she would have had to be surrounded with LI figs otherwise you wouldn't have made it past the 1 minute of the game.
around here a lot of players feel Adrac etc. have really messed with game-play and it's only that we play for fun that MK is still alive here.
selling much boosters, no and that's what is going to hurt WK in the proces.
Good Ol`Days was for me when there was only Rebellion and Lancers. When there were good old frieds who also played MK. When playing MK didn`t mean to build an army and roll the dice and look nice when you win.....it was the time when playing meant to grab your figures and had to think about a way how to win with them. When you had to be experienced to be good. And when you didn`t said that every mistake you made is only the roll`s fault. It was a time when it was right to hate Atlantis. It was the time, when i saw my babies, my green little winged babies.......
But what about the new ol`days? My babies still exist, the Solonavi are new archenemies so i dont get bored. New Figures mean new strategies. Everything you plaed in the good ol days is as strong as before.....its the players who are getting weaker....
Now there is competition, its not important that your army looks cool and has a plot, its only important that your army is good. Thats a bad thing.....but there is something good too. This kind of playing meant many new players, more new friends......
But i miss the old days.....i miss Tenari of Tes......one of the best Knights Immortal players ive ever seen....i miss the time when his cavalry galloped over the battlefield and left nothing more than death itself.....:(
The good old days were, of course, Rebellion, Lancers and Whirlwinds....a nice tri-fecta of mounted goodness and solid nons for all.
What I REALLY liked about the game when it first started was the organized scenario clubs and game play. We even had prize support back then. I won a *** Bone Golem from our league! Yippeee! I still have him...plucky little fella! That is still going on today....you still get cool prizes for playing the game.
Powercreep bugs me, but it appears to be here to stay, you cannot put that djinn back in the bottle.
When I think of "good old days" of collectible gaming, I still remeber the days when noone would think of buying a booster box or case of anything, and trading (even for commons) was huge. I miss that from collectible gaming.
From the good ole days I miss that the Draconum were the ultimate warriors (Amazon is a fluke in my opinion). Now with Solonavi and Conquest LE's, the big dragons are playing second or even third fiddle.
My dwarves and orcs (yay Frothing One) still do a good job for me, and I am looking forward to FINALLY getting some guys that can make a ranged combat foramtion with my Dwarven Jarl!! Yeah, those fusers will be expensive, but will look great flanking the Jarl!!
Great thread! I have been complaining of late about the future of MK, and this reminds me of all the good stuff....easy rules, good gameplay, skirmish style and funny little clicky men!
Thanks!
@ Noble Warrior...nice icon change..are you "Fantastic" Steve?
I think the good days are here. Eliminate the Striker, Corphy, OST, AD, and the KI Charger, and what do you have? The Good old Days ! Add in the next expansion, with mounted figures and our best days are ahead.
Now that the Rabbidgerbal thinks about it the tournys are sort of a double edged sword.
Having them is great because you pretty sure a game is going to be played. It gets new and diverse people together to game. Moreover the senarios brought out new fun ideas and getting a little goody (the send aways or chance to win a fig) was a boon.
It also seemed to bring out sort of a dark side to gaming. People weren't interested in the senario, rather than building all faction armies they went for power figures and trick formations. The game lost some of it's fun get together quality as people got so serious intent on the blood of victory.
Part of the "good ol days" for the Rabbidgerbal is when Mage Knight is a game, a reason to get together with friends casually, maybe making some fun all zombie army that is attacking a village in some resident evil senario.
When it gets into the focus on the "win" and the mixed merc armies with heavy hitters... it looses some of it's joy.
my favorite MK moment was this saturday when I got to play a game I enjoy with a group of friends and just have fun, of course then theres next saturday and the next:D . but i guess i have to count my blessings as the guys in my area are more intent on having fun than winning.
For me they are still happening to this day. I was blessed by the fact that almost all the gamers here play pure fun armies instead of Big Bound, OSTs, and KI Chariot. Even better is the fact that those who do use Cheese still can't beat those of us who are seasoned players. I will always enjoy pulling out my signiture March of the Living Impaired and ReaperRush armies. It is fun to win tourneys but we should never forget that playing in the spirit of the game is what MK should be all about.
