Originally posted by EldritchSoul now, if this figure bases one w/ polearm and the polearm knocks him out of ram, does it mean the figure takes no damage?
From the 1.0 FAQ:
"Pole Arm & Ram – When a figure with Ram moves into base contact with a warrior with Pole Arm, the free spin opportunity occurs and then the two figures damage each other simultaneously."
I assume it will continue to work this way in 2.0, assuming Pole Arm dosn't change.
i think im alone in this but i feel that polearm should negate ram and charge. if you think about it pole arm is like a person holding a spear in set defense whe someone runs towards them, so the attacker impales them self. it makes sense that a bull or a anythign with ram stops befor hitting what ever it was ramming because it was skewered. its what pikemen and spears were used in history for.. all the way from the greeks to the evil swiss... (a solid wall of pikes hurts)
and befor anyone says that history doesnt matter, think about if you were ramming someone, would you keep going after having a spear run though your stmach
and befor anyone says that real life doesnt matter ummmmm
hey, but some of the ones with polearm dont have a sharp end, just a staff, i doubt that mounted orc riding a giant beast with a shell would be impaled on a staff..
yeah... but also how can you ram fire? or does a minotaur running into someone and a tank running into some one sound like they should do the same damage?
i correct my self, reality has nothgn to do with this game
Did I read that correct in that a figure with ram deals no shake-off damage. If that is true then this ability is absolutely different, and I'm wondering why they changed it in that way. This will really affect mounteds with Ram.

Actually, that's been the case with Ram since they added shakeoff damage. You've never been able to breakaway with a mounted figure, deal shakeoff & then Ram someone.
This is effectively the same SA as it was in Unlimited. Here is the text from the Unlimited SAC for reference:
Quote
This warrior may not be part of a movement formation and does not cause shake off damage. When this warrior moves, and his front arc is in base contact with one or more opposing figures at the end of that movement, he inflicts 1 click of damage on each of those opposing figures after the free spin opportunity.
There are a few minor rewordings in the text, but it is functionally the same.
OOPS! :o I completely forgot about that. It hasn't really come up when I have played and if you don't deal with something every so often then you tend to forget some of the finer points. Thanks for the refresher.
Now, if you will excuse me I'm going to go and beat myself up like Dobby in Harry Potter.

Pole arm DOES stop charge and will stop surge in 2.0. It does not stop ram because well rammers just do not care.
The wording si just a cleaned up version of what we have now and ML/Ram..Strong Flier/Ram works because it does not require a move action
The 2.0 Ram is pretty much the same way it is in Unlimited, but there's one difference:
After the rammer makes contact with the opposing warrior and deals the click of damage, its activation doesn't necessarily end. To that effect, ram and charge could be combined to deal a click of autodame (say, knock the Galeshi Dervish out of his Dodge slot) and then make a close combat attack for even more damage. I think the Ram would even work with Surge.

Does that mean we will be seeing 2.0 mounteds?
The jury is still out on that. Apparently one of the orc figures from the demo kit is on a single base but has the horseshoe speed type. The rumor, that seemed reasonably sound, was that a future set would have mounted figures. The question is, does that mean mounted figures with double bases?
