Originally posted by Balduran I The 150 or so point fig is bad enough. And using 50-66% of your build on a single fig is not inefficient - if the fig is a heavy, resilient, first striker. I would think that 1.0 proved that. Perhaps using 75% isn't either.
Balduran, just from reading the rules (I have not tried them out yet; I am waiting patiently for my starter) I think that the best thing that WK did for balancing the game is the objective system. You can no longer "run and gun" like you used to. Point kills mean little. Sure Two Heads has massive first strike capability. So what? In a standard game, where we will be having a limited number of turns unless you push him hard he wont kill more than 3 or 4 figs. That will be maybe 120-150 points. In the mean time you can easily get rid of or neutralize his support to a point where he cannot control more objectives.
Two Heads (and to a lesser degree Varatrix) are the equivalent of Apache Gunships. They can kill a lot. But they cannot control objectives that easy. And I think the clever use of domains and relics, they won't even be much of a threat. I think the main cause of this fussing is that we have our mind set to the 1.0 environment and not the 2.0 environment and rules.
Either way, time will show. But I can be pretty confident that Two Heads wont be in any serious Nationals or Worlds army.
Wylden Forest with a stealth/pathfinder army. Bye, bye, bound.
The devil is in the costing. If things are costed correctly, I agree things will be fine.
One thing though is that because there are going to be alot of these figs out there, you are going to have to pack some heavy muscle in every army, or you are going to have to use formations. I wish the gang up rules were not so restrictive.
Originally posted by Olan blah, if you ask me, all those uber-bounders suffer from the sme problem : they rely on range as their primary way of winning the game.
Seriosuly guys, range really got nerfed in 2.0, Ghostform joins in, there are tons of relics that simply prevent ranged combat, same applies for terrain/Weather... add to that surge, and double-time and you got quite a range-unfriendly environnement.
Yeah, look at all the ways you can kill range, if it was to threaten to become a dominant army type. You can use domains (Storm Gale), you can use Relics (Stormwall), you can use Special abilities (GF/LI).
Yes, these big figures will be huge in the game. However, the reason isn't because they have big bound, or whatever. It will be because they are versatile. Good at range, good at close combat, etc. Spending 200+ pts. on a figure with huge range, damage and bound will be a huge waste of points if any of the above are the focus of an army. They'll need to be versatile.
This was my #1 pet peeve in MK 1.0. Uniques dominated the game. Two things give me hope. First, swarm armies recieved a BIG boost from the gangup rules. Remember, that in gang up only the one attacking gets an action token. So If I have a swarm of say, 4 blade golems, or 4 Whirling golems, Only one of these guys will get an action token at a time, as they take turns whacking away at 13 offense, 4 damage a pop.
Second, the low end figs arent pansies either. Look at the 54 point ** troll smasher. 3 clicks of sweep, 10 atk on the 2nd click so you can surge in for a nasty whack, 4 damage, and toughness.
Magic freeze is another thing that gives me hope. It is now a viable attack (does its dam with a 50% chance of an action token), and I can use it to both hurt and slow these megafigs.
ANY broken tusk figure has the capacity to bring down one of these 'panzers'. Their SA allows them to burn themselves up to destroy the target (trading their life for extra damage on a 1 for 1 basis).
I am looking forward to my 'pygmy swarm' army using these new rules and strats to tear apart my enemies.
Huge Range, bah Domains and plenty of ways around. Your seeing bigger range because its not as big of a deal anymore.
Yes there are some very strong figures but they're all very different and will kill you in different ways.
How did the uber figures work before? All were big Bound, simple as that.
Are all of these new guys one type? Nope, all different, all have different strengths and weaknessess and lets not forget we have no idea what the majority of the Domains do and those could really affect these guys.
In fact, I think the days of the uber-figure with little support are now over, I would expect competitive armies to actually lose focus and be decent at doing anything. The weather/terrain, and relics can so drastically change the game that focusing on a single aspect of the battle becomes a huge gamble.

I know this is a sidenote, but Trix's range is NOT A BIG THREAT. The EAA/SB elf army with three different formations would definitely beat the snot out of a trix army, it can always out run the range! So then the only way is if it decides to run in and base the formation, which it obviously wouldn't do.
So while half the trix army is concentrated on this one figure, you can run around the map with all your little dudes and just keep dodging trix's range.
I really love Trix, don't get me wrong, it's the 8 range is WHY I love him so, he seems very balanced and unBORKEN!
Broken tusk orc swarms using gangup. Hope they get a new forch marcher. I just wish gang up was easier to pull off. Having to be untokened, means the enemy has two shots to hit you before you can do a gang up attack.
If you could gang up will having one token it would be huge. But then you have to word it in such a way were you can't run 2 guys up then surge and use gang up. Or then again maybe that would be cool too.
problem with gang up is that the fig needs to hve NO action token. Many big unique figs with either sweep, smite, or fly away in the 2 rounds that will take.
The objective rules do allow figs to be 'meaner and bigger' and not be as big as a threat in 1.0 where your fought to kill each other the fastest.
One hit from a broken tusk will ruin a uniques day quite nicely [shame that rule of 3 keeps them from one shotting deep dial figs]
Too bad strong flyers can't carry a fig to an mid air battle. The orcs would truely pay those solonavi's back!
If the fig does not have D-cups it is not likely female.
