I know exactly what WK needs to do in order to bring the game back into life. They need to allow 1.0 to be a standard format. What will it cost them?... nothing! They claim that 2.0 is a "new game".... then why not allow the other game to be played tournament-wise? I love playing 2.0... and I do miss playing 1.0

Things change [ag]
Well, I am guessing on the sanctioned play. It still gets played (and the kids have started asking me when I could be an Envoy again), but D&DM and Warmachine are both coming up fast - a lot of the kids have already switched, instead of buying into 2.0.
Originally posted by rgrayua I may be misunderstanding you, but I feel relatively certain that Creepy Freaks was pre-Topps. Creepy Freaks can all be placed on WizKids' proverbial shoulders. dando2 is probably right, had Creepy Freaks been developed after the Topps acquisition and done as the existing Garbage Pail kids, it might have been more successful.
no, I mean when Topps came into the scene, they kind of dismissed MK/MW/HC as "meh" games, and considered CF to be complete gold.
Thanks for another..... update on how games OTHER than MK are doing in your area. I am sorry things did not work out for you as a warlord. Hopefully you will have more success with these other game systems. But I am not interested in hearing about them every time I turn around. It irks me that you are so often found promoting them on a Mage Knight forum. (i.e. This forum is for MK.) I do mention assorted games in my posts, but not as the main thrust of my argument. And it is always as a means of making some point within the context of Mage Knight as a whole.

1. WizKids realizes that they need to focus on their core games, Mage Knight, Mechwarrior, and HeroClix to insure that the games last past this year.
2. That WizKids can find a way to bring back the players they lost with the release of 2.0. There were too many top level players that decided to leave the game because they were tired of the way WizKids were ruining the game.
Xanathon
Amen to that, Xan.
Dang, I enjoy the game, I don't wanna see it dying. But I do hope they change the way they're running it.

Yes, I am aware that this is a MK forum - but the initial post was hopes for this next year, and one of them was that WK will find a way to bring back some of the alienated players. Count me among the disgruntled, but not completely driven off yet - I still haven't gotten rid of everything clicky, I just don't buy or play it any more.
Look, the fact remains that WK did lose a lot of players and Envoys over the last year. As others have pointed out, MK is not mainstream, and likely will not be. And some people, myself included, think that WK really should actually listen when we start saying that other games seem to be taking off and doing well.
I really didn't initially plan on buying into some of those other game systems - I was content giving my money to WK. But by June, I no longer wished to do so - and while that feeling might have been temporary, 2.0 just solidified it. As I have said in other posts, if I were offered the chance to become an Envoy again, I might take it. At this point last year, no matter how "burned-out" I felt (as all do from time to time), I still was happy running and playing games. Now? The thrill is (largely) gone. . .

VERY true! these three are the biggest sellers that WK has. No one i know really cares for the other line. SR are good action figures, but nothing else really. CS looked like a good game, but there's very little interest to none in it at my venue and now that the X-box game has come out....... (i won't even touch CS..)
2. That WizKids can find a way to bring back the players they lost with the release of 2.0. There were too many top level players that decided to leave the game because they were tired of the way WizKids were ruining the game.
It's a nice hope, but seeing as WK could care less that this has happened, it'll be a miracle if those who left come back.
3. MLB Sportclix does well as WizKids cannot afford another game that bombs.
True, but i think that this game will bomb and them some.....
Video games and fantasy leaugues are alot more interesting. If this game actually does well, that would be a major surprize to me.
4. WizKids stops producing games that are either rushed out and not fully thought through or games that do not have enough of a following in their present form to warrant the release as a clix game. ( example of Crimson Skies and Shadowrun.)
Too late, 2.0 is already made :D
Sportclix is next.

Well they've stirred the pot with the "Retiring" of the older/original sets. Will it make it survive 2004 is a Hot topic of debate right now.

The Dark Riders Expansion would have brought some back but see above.

It is normal to have some attrition in any game, but it is not normal to have a mass exodus. WizKids needs to understand this and do their best to bring the players they lost back into the game.
Well from the online Chat reports it seems that WizKids dosen't really care about losing the "Old Guard" as they have this vision that new customers will take their place. Wishful thinking on WizKids part.

5. A major convention decides to move to St. Louis so I don't have to get a hotel room for a change :D
I wish you luck on this score and I'd like to add that Toronto is a plenty large City that could use a big con with WizKids attendance to try and bring the game back to life here. Wishful thinking on my part. ;)

Understand that I am not the biggest WizKids supporter out there because I do not agree with their business decisions, but I don't want to see them fail either.
I'll second that concept!!! I liked the whole Mage Knight idea but the way WizKids makes decisions has really disappointed me.

As I see it 2004 would be an excellent time for WizKids to do damage control and see what it is that has caused them to fall as far as they have. They also need to repair the damage they caused to the player base as we are the people that ultimately keep them in business.
They can turn things around and by extending the proverbial Olive Branch to the players they have lost it would be a good start.
Xanathon
Well here I think is where they have failed utterly. They have really dropped a bomb on us with the rotation thing and it has really caused a big negative with a majority of the gamers in my area and ticked off the Venue owners. Having old stock that is viewed as worthless is not doing them any favors.
Still at the end of the day, it is only Feb and that means about 9 full months till the end of the year for things to turn around if WizKids, and to some extent, us the consumers, make an effort to see the other side and work to a resolution. We will have to wait for WizKids to make the first move.
