But it is awesome how the Blood Shaman doubles as a healer and can soar. It is one of the single most useful figs in the 2.0 base set. So screw guild enhancers!
well, my comment is what do you think you will be playing? I see mounts galore really exploiting the MC/C and MB/B with the Sky dragons flying arroung at 14 inches Caldera may be well fit for those battles but a mass attack on Caldera when she has an action token may really bring her down enough where the Thunder Javalin may not be effective. Similar to last years Amazon Drac Armies, you would need to dance arround to lure your opponent into range of Caldera's attacks...also, whot would you do against a Spirit Armor army targeting Caldera? Though they have toned it down a bit, if they give it to General Vale...he may be hard to deal with if you want to preserve Caldera...
Spirit Armour armies do pose a threat to me - I suppose I could try and capture the piece that has the Spirit Armour.
Currently, the UK Nationals have only 8 players taking part. They will be 4 rounds Swiss and then the final. Given that Dark Riders has only recently been released, and has not been readily available over here, I'm not too worried about mounted forces (although I'm aware that I will be facing some armies with them).
I will get a chance this weekend to test this army and a few other possibile combinations that I have dreamt up.
Chroma 112pts
- Decapitator 31pts
- Bracers of the Ranger 14pts
* Blood Shaman 34pts
* Deathsinger 29pts
** Freehold Sorceress 32pts (022 w/Pathfinder, Charge, and Healing)
* High Elven Warrior x3 48pts
Storm Gale
Inferno
Darkness
Smoke and Fog
Total: 300pts
Chroma would have a speed of 13 w/Charge and Pathfinder, an attack of 12 w/Sweep and Counterattack, a defence of 20 w/Magic Resistance, and damage of 5. I lose Thunderblow but I think Sweep is a fair swop.
Support is again from the Blood Shaman with both Hex and Magic Healing, and the Deathsinger with Revenant ability.
The Freehold Sorceress is better than the War Priestess as she provides all the same options and also has Pathfinder.
Chroma doesnt get pathfinder through Decap. I am not sure what you mean? But otherwise, I think Chroma is much better than Caldera, its just that i wasnt expecting you to have one since you said DR wasnt widely avaliable.
Originally posted by litedragon And Xan, im taking it that you meant Caldera.;) Chroma has been spinning through my mind a lot lately as well. You arent alone!!!:p
LOL! I just caught that. I saw Chroma somewhere in this thread and didn't realize Aquarion was referring to Caldera.
I like it.
Redundant healing with at least one being sword type (given your domain choices...)
Good melee/formation buster
Good fodder/objective holders
Revenant - almost a must-have
Seems like a good solid army. Nicely done and good luck!
Actually, for the past 7 tournies I attended and won, i never used Revanent once! I do extremely well having an extra 27-29 points to put a game-breaking item on my top unique. It is too easy for me to destroy my opponent's Rev. figures. So i figure if it is easy for me to kill theirs, it must be easy for them to kill mine. So i just exclude it altogether.
Bracers of the Ranger require sword attack type, therefore Chroma can use them without restriction.
I used the army today against four different forces - I won two out of the three games.
Game one had me facing Caldera and Kieren Starsdawn, Caldera with Cloak of Dervish and Kieren with Heartseeker. This was the game I unfortunately lost.
Game two had me against Varatrix. A successful charge, followed by a failed attack by 'trix, which I counterattacked, and my opponent decided that the game was effectively over.
Game three involved me fighting against Caldera and Drakor. Chroma got creamed but I won on objectives held.
My opponent did alter his initial army choice (which as this was a training exercise I was happy to allow) when I played Darkness as my first domain. He had originally intended to use Khan Rava with Karradun's Bow.
I learnt to be very careful with Chroma. I would also like to see if I can figure a way to include Cloak of the Dervish (if I can get hold of one) into the build (dropping the Bracers to start with).
