@JGKlaw: I knew it didn't address Storm Maul- my momma said don't talk about whatchya don't know . .and I don't know it yet . . . .=)
@Spudkin: :mi: and Ghostform protect you because they prevent you from even being targeted by the attack. There are no modifiers or terrain to worry about, but you can't make the attack in the first place.
18 + 3= 21 for the *** Troll Smasher
I'll have to read the card again, to see if that 'No Modifiers' is correct. IF it were, then a Soaring Character wouldn't get +1 to their defence and the -2 to attack a rider wouldn't apply, and I think they do.
None of my Troll Smashers have 18 defense, or a way to add 3 to their defense. :confused:
If you're looking up the Book of Lightning, you should see the FAQ, too. Here's what it has to say about it:
Quote
R–005 Book of Lightning: Replace the second sentence of the rules text with the following:
Select a single target figure not in base contact with the wielder as the target of a ranged combat attack, ignoring all line of fire requirements and modifiers to the attack.
Explanation: By removing reference to the “attack roll”, the intent of the Book of Lightning is clarified. The sum of the wielder’s unmodified attack value plus its attack bonus and attack roll result is compared to the target’s unmodified defense value to determine the success of the attack.
off topic, Fang Shield overrides Frenzy D. Blizz, right? since Relics control?? os Frenzy figure can be captured? Forgive me if it's been ruled, but I didn't see it...
When I asked about Fang Shield I was told normal rules for capturing applied still. ie couldn't capture a cavalry unit because the basic rules of capturing disallow it.
Sigma said it basically gave bow the ability to capture, so I would say that you still couldn't capture a frenzied unit with it.
thats because of the order in which the game is set up.
first the domains are revealed and take effect, in this case Darkness limiting the range of the shooters.
Then the armies are deployed and thats when Snow's takes effect, giving its wielder the 48 range, replacing the darkness reduced range.
then why wouldn't a figure with a 12" range trump the Domain, since it is also deployed after the Domain, it really makes no sense. If Snow's lets you increase your range, a Domain that says you CAN'T shoot more than 6" should chop you back down to 6", who cares waht range the relic gives you, or what range is on your figure, you simply can't "see" or "aim" beyond the limit of the Domain. To me it's wonky!
Well a MoM or Submerge army would also obliterate BoL/Storm Maul. So would a Storm maul wielding Relaphon for that matter :). Or any sizeable swarm, since the damage would be so widespread that it wouldn't matter.

I always thought of it with two simultaneous effects happening at once, so you get to choose the order they happen. And of course I choose darkness reduces to 6 then Snows Increases to 48.

While this isn't the rationale used for this ruling, this works as well and is consistant with other rulings.
