Good. Like I said, I can definetely understand why people dropped. I didn't do it, I would be upset with myself if I did (since I went 4-0 in constructed I wanted to see if I could win it all) but that was my decision. The only problem I have is with the one extra person who dropped making it an odd number of contestants (or maybe an extra person should have dropped).
It targets 2 people?? hmmm who could they be??
D Gib I'm really glad I met you. Your ok in my book bro. Your one of the few people posting on this subject who may have a different view of me. We spoke for a bit during the delay. Do I deserve this infamous tag I seem to be wearing these days??
I think the key missing part here is how they determined that they 'couldn't win.' How do you know this? Crazy things happen during sealed boosters, and of course, you don't see what your competition has to deal with.
It also says a lot that the person that started this thread, who I have nothing against, did not play in nationals. If I am playing at my local venue and leave its one thing. You are basically saying "Hey guys you aren't worth my time." But at nationals its different, every match is big, and there is always the chance you will face one of the big jerks (yes there were some). At the same time you are missing so much, I saw a demo of Injurious Games(after the second day of Nationals) and it made me wish I could paint.
D-Gibbings - wait, this thread was not directed at them!!! I like Python, and I respect him - I really was commenting just in general! And Alcatraz I don't know but he seems decent enough from his posts that I've read.
I posted this because it seemed like A LOT of people dropped. If it was just one or two (even if they were Lions, hehehe) I would not have started a thread. When 30 or so drop (was that the rough estimate?) it means something totally different.
I just don't like the whole dropping thing, though I do understand it...
So D_gibbings, please don't try to make this out to be bewtween me and Python and Alcatraz- anyway, I was going to try and instigate a clan war between Dice Gods and the Lions, since it was almost starting in one of the threads, heheehe.
Anyway, if a Khans of the Fist member (well, we'd have members if we were official!!) dropped from Nats, his next drop would most likely be from the clan - Orcs don't quit...
I definately see this as targeting a couple of ppl and thats not cool.
as for dropping WK said it was OK as long as you did it in the manner they described. Even on a supremly competitive level the point of the game is to have fun. If you know you are going to get manhandled thats not fun and at a Con there is always something you can do with your time.
As for local tournies I firmly believe ppl dropping is for whiney babies. most Local events are no more than 4 or 5 rounds there is no need to drop.
If someone wants to drop from a tourney, I say let them, why even question it when its obvious that there is something else they either need to or what to do instead. Sure, it annoys me whenever a player at my venue drops from a tournament, but no one has ever made a habit of it (its happened maybe twice...excluding youner players who had to leave early whenever we were running behind).
In a larger event like nats, when someone drops, it might look bad on him/her, but then, how many people during the sealed thought, "hmm, bad pull, odds of me winning are slim, since its not that important, I'll go try out some new stuff and have quality time with my friends". Does this make someone a bad person/player? No, just that they have other priorities...it just sounds like someone really wants something to complain about, and this was probably the easiest way he thought of to get people to support him.
hmm, do people really think I was trying to target Python and Alc??? wow, if so, then kill this thread mods, because I was just bringing up the issue in general, in light of what people posted about nats...and trying to get peoples' opinions on it.
I did not say it made anyone a bad person or bad player, in fact, as I said, I like Python - so anyone getting that from this thread is misreading me. I can have a difference of opinion with someone on an issue without thinking ill of them, or disrespecting their opinion on the subject, as I said, I do understand the whole dropping thing. ANd I'll say it again, I don't like it. It's just my opinion, others have a different opinion. Does that mean I think people who dropped are Satanic worshippers who eat babies -yes!! errr, I mean, no!
see for Nats this is why i dont like sealed as a format
what WK should do is have a list of figures that ppl can build from and thats it and they have to make the best army
a reason for dropping is priorities and you gotta set them when you go to a Con but if you are going to a local tourney more then likely you have budgeted the day to play MK
jgklaw that last comment is funny, we all know orcs are weak willed cannon fodder =) (thats not a personal attack)
is in the eye of the beholder (or something like that)
jgklaw you may not have intended as a targeted attack, but others have rallied to that cause and them seems where this is going. (re Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia)
Just a difference of opinions here.
As for quitting, I survived having to watch 4 years of VMI football....
In a large tournament, provisions must be made to allow people to drop. There are dozens of possible reasons, medical, personal, ethical, responsible, emotional, etc. Additionally, since it is a game and not an obligation, a reason for dropping should not be required. It is a reality of tournaments that must be accounted for even if you personally disagree with one particular person's reason for dropping.
