It was supposed to summon four great warriors that would would stop the Apocalypse. These warriors would have been the four created by the four winners of the Shard contest, but no one won, the fourth piece was never found in time, if at all. So because we didn't get the four created pieces, I believe we got the Avatars instead. And now the Apocalypse is becoming a full-fledged faction slowly but surely.

I think every faction would have to ally in order to beat the apoc. But the battle against them would likly devestate every faction even if they all become allies.

I think the High Elves and the Solonavi will have a joint understanding. They had the same goal of blocking the Kuttar depths from anybody. The Drac egg is somewhere there and is linked to that 5 headed Apoc dragon. I'm not even sure if the Dracs were existent during the Age of Mists. I'm sure the High Elves and Solonavi were.

Nah, it's the Dracs, with their consuming desire for evolution and self-perfection, who are the Shadows. The Apocalypse are the baddies from one of the Babylon 5 TV movies, the ones who came through that big doorway the Vorlons built, frantically closed, and set adrift in space.

I will admit that the High Elves are sufficiently pompous to be Minbari, while the Atlanteans aren't half-bad as Centauri, and the BPR make great Narns.

Here is my take on the whole Apoc. thing:

Long ago during the age of mists a great battle was raged between 4 powerfull warriors from across the land and the 4 Horsemen of the Apoc. Using strong magic they sealed the horsemen and their avatars away. After the battle 2 of the warriors returned to the shadows with the rest of the solonavi, a 3rd one returned to the Capital City of the High Elves to a Hero's welcome, and the 4th returned to his/her underground city to lay in slumber till the time came that he/she must awake to battle the minions of the apoc. With the slumber spell cast and its mission done the Drakona Slept for 2,000 years till they once again woke.
