Oh man, that is one sweet sculpt. I would love to get my hands on one, but I lack both the money and the general ability (being yet another of the younger folk here) to even try to get it. Sigh...at least I'm getting some Unique/LE Solonavi friends for x-mas. That should liven up my MK collection a bit.
Wizkids hits the Wizard conventions that are largely comic cons. MK events aren't run there so there aren't nearly as many MK players that stop by those cons as there are GenCon and Origins. Even though there won't be many MK players there, I'd bet money that WK will be selling the dragon at those cons. I'd also bet that a lot of HC players will buy the dragon, either to meet the "quota" to get all the con exclusive goodies or simply to resell on the secondary market.
So what's that mean for MK players? More dragons being purchased at cons by non MK players and being sold in the secondary market means lower prices overall.
Originally posted by jgklaw well, it is a promo thing, to boost attendance and lines at a con. I do think they should make them available to the public in general maybe 6 -9 months later....so everyone can have one.
Yeah, I'm on board with this idea. I mean, I live in Canada and I have a job. In THEORY I could go to Gen Con (in THEORY...) but the game has a lot of fans that aren't even on this continent. I understand their motivations, but it really seems to run counter to what they're trying to do with LE's in boosters etc. - that is, make the game's rarer figs more accessible. Kinda makes you wonder what thought process went into this decision.
No one here is calling for Wizkids to just start giving the things away on GenCon's opening day at stores around the world.
People are going to buy just because it looks cool, i can 100% assure you ALOT of those people wont even be a MK playerm or anytype of clicks player. Can you imagine how many D&D fans will want to get just to use it in thier role play sessions? This will no only appeal to MK and clicks players, or those wanting to get con exclusives, it will also appeal to D&D dice chuckers as well.
Prices dont go low if there is a high demand and little product, it raises prices higher.
I'm hoping the dragon will be a cheaper figure. It doesn't really look all that big (It says it's the biggest MK figure ever, but I can't reckon, by looking at the picture, that it could be all that larger than a Fist of Tezla).
I don't think it will sell out all that quickly. I'm of the opinion that the HC people will sell their firstborn children to nab a Dark Phoenix; they don't need our nerdy, non-marketted characters cluttering up their precious computer desks.
Archangel..."Thats why its an LE. Not everyones supposed to get one."
No offense but...what a load of that stuff I flush...LE?...that has no meaning anymore...its a joke really...I got to go to a local venue that was giving out Stoneheart at the 2.0 marquee in November 2003...only 20 venues across the world...only 9 per venue...total of 180 figures distributed...super rare...lol...my you know what...they sold it at headquarters I do believe...250 figures or something...then they gave it to every warlord in redemption and the figure is so easy to get it isn't even funny...i bet they will sell it to anybody...its like the Ford Crown Victoria Limited Edition...Limited to how many they can sell...and thats pretty much what Limited means to Wizkids...blame Topps or whoever...bottom line is:
It will be advertised as a rare LE but will probably be mass produced and sold later on...those crazy enough to spend big money to get it will probably regret it later...and those who wait and never do end up seeing will I guess just keep there money and wizkids and do without it...

Parasite, Draddog said the Dragon is on the scale of Galactus. That should tell you how big that dragon is.
Huh, I wonder who would win between Galactus and the dragon.:D
I suspect they will enter circulation in the following ways:
1. Convention exclusive piece at first.
2. One or two as a prizes for filling out a future survey...
3. Some small number included via redemption coupons inserted randomly in some future MK expansion boosters..
Can someone explain to me how denying 80% of your customer base who can't go to a convention the chance to get a "super awesome" fig helps promote the game?
I would have to agree with redtiger7 on thios one... its better to go the route of the realms relics rather than go the route of the 5 headed apoc. dragon. I think the dragon is extremely awesome , but to deny the Avg. player base a chance to get one?...not good..I can't even get to conventions that easily and I'm only 6 hours drive time from Wizkids HQ...eesh. go figure the NW lacks the game Conventions yet that region is among the top game producers in the world...what a joke.
I like the dragon but not worth the effort to get one. :(
