Originally posted by zengoth A couple days pass and although there have been several guests looking at the site, no one has signed up yet. I go back to the player email system, but this time I send the link out to all ranked players in close proximity to Oklahoma City. More time passes and still no members beyond myself have signed up.
In my experience, people don't tend to respond to email. If you send out 100 emails, even to people you know and know are interested in what you are emailing about, you can probably expect less than 10 to respond.
I sent out an email to all the Envoys in my state. Not a single one replied. When I saw some of them at tournaments and mentioned the email they told me "Yeah, I saw that." They just didn't bother to respond.

From a marketing point of view, 10% response is SUPER!
If you are trying to reach people via email then realize it is a numbers game. You need to send LOTS of mail and send it often. Even a 3-4% response rate is good.
I suggested multiple times when I was an Envoy that WK would benefit greatly from a system that more easily allowed Envoys to reach players.
Nice okcs website I hope the required # join before end of summer. Does only local members (i.e. people who can actually play locally) count to give club status or can clix players worlwide join club. Personally, I've never been further south than Niagra Falls but if I ever get to Oklahoma I'll be expecting a game.
@ demerzel - I don't think it says word for word, but my assumption is that all game club members must be in the same area. I'm pretty sure WK would call foul if they saw members in Canada belonging to a club in Oklahoma! ;)
And if you are ever in Oklahoma, you have an open invitation for a game or two...

Indeed, the intent WizKids has for sanctioning game clubs, is to give players who don't have a venue in their area a place to play. They are providing free prizes for the club. If they didn't have a requiement for the number of members, John & Joe (the only players in their area), could start a game club so they could get free figures.
Entry 3: Sponsorship
After completing the exams portion of the envoy process, I was faced with a dilemma. I have planned from the start to initially run events at my current venue, New World Games & Comics on the north side of Oklahoma City. I have had a relationship with this store for nearly 20 years (yeah, I know I’m old!) and most players I know still come into this store fairly regularly. The former envoy/venue person is even an old college roommate of mine, and he is aware I am going for warlord status. The dilemma is that I don’t want to be specifically tied to only one venue, as I would like the option of running events at multiple venues if the opportunity ever arose. If I was sponsored by New World, I’m concerned that there could be friction if I wished to run events at a competitor’s location, which I would understand from a business standpoint. But from my ‘revival’ standpoint, multiple opportunities for potential players to return to/discovery MK requires me to keep my venue options open. So I opt to find a non-partial warlord who would be willing to sponsor me.
I look into the active warlords in Oklahoma, and find a grand total of 5, with only 3 being level 2 or better. I decide to keep them as backup possibilities, and go to the next place I could find a sponsor – my clan. I posted a thread about my concerns about being venue supported, and from that thread I found my sponsor. A clanmate of mine (whom shall remain anonymous unless he wishes to claim me ;)) was interested in sponsoring me as he had recently achieved level 2. My sponsor sends me his information, and I go to my WK homepage to enter the information. I submit the information and get the following response: You have entered a referral key that cannot be found. I double check the info I submitted and try again. Same result. I check back with my sponsor, confirming I had the info correct. Same result. I figure there is a problem with my account not accepting the referral information, so I contact WK via email and wait. I receive a response back almost immediately from HaiKu, letting me know I had requested the wrong information from my sponsor and instructing me on the proper information I needed. I again check back with my sponsor to get the proper information. This time success! My account page now instructs me that I qualify for a reclassification request. I submit said request, and settle back to wait the possible two weeks to hear back on my status.
The next afternoon I log in to my WK home page and am met with an agreement requiring my acceptance. Less than 24 hours after I submitted my request I hear back on my status. I have heard all the horror stories about dealings in the envoy program, but HaiKu answered my question promptly, and I am stunned by the speed in which my request was processed. Here’s hoping all my future dealings will be as simple and expedient. [Insert  here] :D :p
Let the word ring out across the ‘Realms that from this day forward I shall be known by a new name:

For the record, using a venue as a sponsor doesn't limit you in any practical way.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to PM or email me (if you email me, make sure your subject identifies you as from the Realms). I'll gladly pass on any information I know. If I don't know, I'll point you in the direction of who to ask.
As it stands, it looks like things have gone reasonably smoothly.
I agree with DBlizzard. There's one more thing you should know about warlord/venue relationships, though. There's such a thing as a 'primary' envoy for each venue (for each game line). If a venue chooses you as their primary Warlord, you will then have the authority to sign up events for Mage Knight and you will automatically be signed up as the warlord. In my experience, this is by far the easiest way to maintain a schedule of events. Most venues don't have the time or knowledge to make all the event decisions. The only restriction my venue puts on me is that she wants certain game lines run on certain days so that they don't conflict with the other things going on at the store...
Oh... and you can get 'Warlord' under your login name here at the realms now, too. :p

@ DBlizz & spudkin - This decision was by no means based on any WK rules/etc., but more on a personal level. I felt it best for my situation to be sponsored by someone other than the primary venue I will be working with.
As far as the primary envoy, I have already requested this of New World, and am awaiting their response.
Now how do I go about getting 'Warlord' by my avatar? Do I need to send a request to someone, or is there a place in my user cp that I have overlooked?

Go to 'Edit Options' in your control panel, scroll down to 'Other Options' and click the 'Judge Me!' link next to the 'Are you a Wizkids Volunteer?' question. Your e-mail account registered with MKRealms and Wizkids must match, but otherwise, that's all you need to do. :)
Me, I personally like my DHC special title better. But I left it as Warlord for a long time. It's surprising how many people pay attention to that (and listen to you, no matter how foolish you're being ;) ).
My area really dried up and the only place that is close doesn't exactly know what they are doing. I want to become a Warlord but unfortunately, I got one more year :(
