Since May 13, 2005, which is 7 months ago, you have only been able to add one new member. Are you sure that ONE is the best you could have done? Remember, it took me a lot of hours over the course of 2 years to build the DHC. You have got to put in the time when you're the lead Drac Kenntak. I think even the Dracs who are still ticked at me would at least give me enough credit to know I could have brought in more than ONE person in over half a year even with Realms volume being down.
I'm glad the ebay market is stable. I'm looking forward to filling out conquest stuff with lot auctions and cheap uniques. Yay.
It's also kinda sad that the Rocketmen Realms is deader than here, since the game 'just' started, of course that may be the reason. :)
Party on dudes.
Edit: I think I should point out that I don't think Draddog has much to do with the Realms anymore since he took over as brand manager. Remember he's doing that job for two or three active lines at the moment at WK.
hey guys well i guess everyone should no that i read the forums alot. i never really post much though. i love the realms. when new threads used to be common i always used to read them. now i really just use the realms to look up figure ststs and such.
as a player im pretty lucky. my game group is still active even tho its just three of us occassionaly 4. last suday we played a hugh castle game. anyway after reading through this specific thread i have made the decition to try to post more often.:D
Originally posted by Veralidaine I have even noticed that chat is dead, I have not been in in over 2 months beause no one is in there bar the few that are always in there and most are on my Yahoo list anyway
Ya know, SOME of us are in there pretty much every night... and even if I am in your yahoo list ya never talk to me. What's the deal? I mean really, I showered today.
This is about Kenntak's issues as related to his inability to generate new members over a long period of time. 1 new person in 7 months speaks for itself. Those are just the facts Jack and they're publicly available to any who choose to view them! You should know how hard I worked over my 2 years as lead Drac and you saw how strong a clan my work, vision and plan brought about. You may not like me but you got to admire the results! I was a "git 'er done" guy.
Of course if you want to play the "clique game" and personality politics, you just keep thinking the way you're thinking Zengoth. That path leads to my baby (the DHC) being further neglected instead of it's being kept alive as a strong growing force due to quality leadership. Go back and read about the activity levels the DHC generated in 2004. Back then the active percentage, defined as members posting in a 90 day period, was as high as 90%. The only way that number stayed high was by doing my quarterly trims and recruitments. Like a garden, a net community only blossoms with a constant attention. I put in a very successful effort as well as quite a few hundred hours over 2 years and whatever else you may think of me, you cannot deny that my methods, goals and plans worked. Go rate the current DHC roster for activity level and see how far off the 90% mark (for the current 50 member roster) I set when I had my hands on the wheel. If there ever was a time for a supreme effort instead of a failing one, it is now.
So take the heat for failure to perform! Kenntak has it coming since he's the top gun and has been for most of 2005. The rest of you Dracs have also failed to keep on top of the real issues that relate to keeping the clan as active as I had it built to be and since you have been neglectful, the clan is slowly sinking into the sunset when it could be the focal point of keeping the Realms alive by example if nothing else.
Winners produce results. Losers produce excuses. Remember when the DHC was just a middle of the pack fanboy clan back in 2002 under 7Thunders? Then came the big changeover in January 2003 and I took over. Did I whine about starting with sows' ears to make silk purses out of? Did I complain that there was too much work to deal with after having to start anew? NOPE!!!
I got after it and spent a lot of hours revamping the DHC. The deadwood was removed and a higher quality member was recruited. We went from fanboy to serious, from child-like to adult. My efforts brought in such people as Rabbidgerbal, more warlords than any other clan had (including a Level 6), the best of the artists and writers, overseas members, Worlds players, top-ranked players and many of those had no desire to be a clan member until I sold them on the idea.
With the points system being set up to reward having a large clan and there being penalties assessed to clans for getting too many warning points, I really went to town to bring in both quantity and quality. Back then we had Draddog being involved enough that when I requested a higher cap, I got it in place. The DHC grew and ranked #1 under those rules.
That's when some other clans got jealous at our upstart Dracs becoming the #1 clan with a bullet! *grin* "We need a cap on members!" went the cry. When all was said and done, we settled in on a 50 member limit. I did fight for the higher limit as other clans, especially the nationality-based ones, needed that kind of room. But when the change came, did I complain, make excuses for difficulties or give up? NOPE!!! I adapted and went to my quarterly "trim and recruit" setup. It worked wonders!
That 50 member cap combined with my plan meant I built a group that was extremely active (in terms of percentage of membership) as I recruited the best of the active Realmers on a regular basis. While this dynamic set in, take note of the arrival of 2.0 in 2003 and how the Lions reacted to that. Their earlier standard of admission was 250 posts with the vast majority to be in strategy-type forums. That idea was extremely successful in building up an elite group of strategists and it was a large group to boot! The Lions had the Realms world by the tail, then they went into a tailspin after 2.0. Had they worked with 2.0 instead of fighting it, they would have stayed right with us as a top notch clan. They did not adapt and now they as a net community exist off in their own forum with a handful of posts per day. The DHC soldiered on quite nicely as I kept recruiting those who were active as players, warlords, traders, artists and above all else, as Realmers. Look back at some of my DHC posts about our clan's activity level and the DHC forum was as high as #7 for posting volume when compared to the entire Realms at one point. Our 50 active members had a very large part of the Realms outgunned for activity level!
The longtime Dracs have seen three leaders. 7Thunders, myself and then Kenntak. This clan under my leadership for 2 years became THE clan and to see my "baby" being not properly cared for is something that upsets me. This public airing could have been avoided by simply getting the job done as then I'd have no cause to mention any dereliction. It's not like I did not share with other Dracs exactly how I did things! If Kenntak doesn't know how to do it or if he does not have the time to do it, get someone else who does, for this is the Last Chance roundup and even if it winds up being nothing more than a futile gesture to try to succeed, live and grow, it sure beats the alternative of simply drying up into dust as time passes. Who knows, a good roll of the die and suddenly the game is on!
So Mr. Zengoth, I started this thread and I shall comment as I see fit. It is not for you to define this topic's range. If you care as much for the DHC as I did, then don't come to me with your personal slaps. Spend that energy on getting with the program and do your part to see that the DHC gets revitalized with new blood. What Kenntak did in 7 months (one new member) I could double in 24 hours easily to two. I've done the job, walked the walk and proven my vision was the best one going for how to set up and grow a clan. Just the fact that the DHC has endured to some extent even with neglect is a testament to my skills as a net community builder. Now it's up to those of you who remain to find the strongest, smartest and most dedicated leader in these hardest of times. The clan you save may be your own...and along with it, the Realms. Enough solid clans will make a foundation for the continuation of the Realms as a whole. Start by taking the most solid one of all and keeping it vital!
I'm reminded of a situation between two friends back in highschool. They competed for president of the club and the guy with personality and a want to make meetings fast and over with won. The other guy (no personality) lost he had the support of the sponser and maybe 3 students out of 70.
Anyway 3 years later they meet while drinking. The loser drunk and dumb turns to the guy that won and says in all seriousness. "You stole the election. I should have won." The guy looks at him almost says something shakes his head and walks away.
Moral: It's time to move on, man. You all be acting crazy in this house.
Wyvern, who was the public face of the clan for the past 4 years? I don't remember you taking several days worth of free time to write set reviews every time a set came out. In fact, I can only remember 2 "real" strategy articles you put out. You provided a different "service" to the clan, one that was most definitely needed.
You were able to recruit good members because I was bringing them in. Kenntak has nothing to do with the "failings" of this clan since you stepped down; quite the opposite, you were the beginning of the end. I stopped posting shortly after I worked that situation out (yes, of course it was me that got the mess straightened out, as it always was), and for 6 months or so, I left the Realms entirely.
The clan forum is still relatively active and we keep up with everyone. WE have always wanted another system, rather than your self-imposed one. We are fine with the state of the DHC, and as such, I don't see where you have much ground to stand on. The DHC was never about impressing people with our "activeness," our "participation," or even our "contribution" within the Realms community. WE did all of those things because WE wanted to, particularly myself.
You always gave me high compliments Wyvy, and I won't speak ill of you here. I will always maintain that deep down, you're an OK guy, and I can look past most of your actions (perhaps I'm too forgiving). Let it go, and do not continue to harp on the DHC or Kenntak. If you want to be critical of the handling of the clan since you left, be critical of me. Send me a PM and be as critical as you want and tell me how much better you would have done things, that is fine.
But please Wyvern, prove me right. As DaMime said, move on. I'd love to see you more active on the Realms and I am going to work towards being more active on them once again. Let's leave it at that old friend.
I'm not going to post again on this thread. If you wish to respond to me here, that is fine. If you wish a response from me, you know how to contact me.
Ah even after the Death of MK the 'Realms still bring me a chuckle or two on some threads. No wonder i continue to check out what the survivors are doing. :D
