He only had the Broardway Bombers. Each plane has different special abilities. Can't remember exactly the different spcials, but i did remember that the range for the brgands front guns were only 4 compared to the Avngers front gun range of 5.
More importantly, Canada, what was the range for the rear guns. I have the feeling that these will be rather low which will help to balance them. A plane will be able to get behind a Brigand for a shot as long as they don't get too close.
Remember, people: a gun firing backwards is trying to accelerate a bullet in one direction when it was first moving in the opposite direction. Theoretically, you knock about 200 knots off the velocity of the bullet since it was traveling 200 knots "backwards" when it was sitting in the breech of the gun just prior to being shot.
Since the bullet and plane are departing each other at an extra 200 knots, the bullet nonethless travels quite far from the plane after firing. I guess the true detriment imparted on the ballistics of the shot is the sheer hitting power of the bullet when it strikes the target. Then again, the target would be moving forward into the bullet at impact in this case, so I guess that makes up for the energy loss.
Also remember, the Avenger has a silouette of 5 compared to the Brigandes 4 which means 50% chance of hitting compared to 33%. I will guess that all planes with turrets will be easier to hit.
ALSO also remember that in the Crimson Skies world, smaller guns shoot farther, but have less damage. It's a trade off; Less damage for greater range andweight savings.
The stock Brigand has dual .30 caliber guns (Which are the longest ranged, non rocket weapons capable of being mounted on a fighter) in its rear turret, thus explaining its large range. (I'm going to guess that .30's will have range 6, .70's have a range of 2, and you can figure out the pattern from there. Fighters with multiple guns will likely average the range/damage out.)
Most CS fighters with rear guns have pintle mounted rear guns...which in the game/universe are really overlarge rifles.(But then, they dont really weigh anything worth counting using the construction rules) They have horrible range, and do even less damage then the .30 caliber, but it's better then nothing and heck, you might get a lucky shot, right?
