DUDE!!! A Classic Comic book with short lived life, but still Kool - SMURF's. Think about it. We can have a base set with only one card per character. Sorry couldn't resist the oppertunity :).
The turtles probably wouldn't start out very strong, but they would probably have good abilities and equipment that would help them out. I think the turtles would have good defense(shells).
I think Indy comics could work better for this game than it did for Heroclix. Minis are probably more costly to produce and therefore more of a risk. If UDE could get the rights to some pretty popular comics(and being a bigger company than Wizkids would probably help them with that), Indy VS could probably do well.
UDE should get the rights to Spawn. That would probably help sell an Indy set, and probably could have helped Indy Clix.
1.) Cerebus (dont let death stop him, he's an ass kicker)
2.) Groo (an equipment card called 'the weird little blue thing' would be great)
3.) Savage Dragon (Most likely to suceed)
4.) Rubel/Varkias from Thieves and Kings
5.) TMNT (only if They were the Original Eastman/Laird Versions)
6.) Jesse/Tulip/Cassidy/The Saint of Killers from Preacher
7.) Morpheus and the rest of the Endless from Sandman
8.) The OLD Image Chars: Maxx, Pitt, ShadowHawk. Spawn, Cyber Force, WildCats, WetWorks
9.) Aliens Vs. Predator? Could this work at all?
10.) Nexus
It seems pretty obvious that 7 of my 10 favorites just cant work leaving only Savage Dragon, Image and TMNT viable and even those feel like a stretch. I'm SOL here I think. and props to anyone who knows Cerebus!
The Wildstorms line of comics would marry nicely with VS. DC owns the licensing since Jim Lee sold it to them some years back. That's half the battle right there.
The Wildstorms CCG was great. It really captured the feel of the comics. And it was the first game to have cards called Plot Twists.
I'd love to see Team 7 as a Vs. affiliation. You could then add the core WS Universe teams and not have to go overboard with the other Image titles (specifically that crap from Liefeld).
Stormwatch, Stormwatch Team Achilles, Gen13, W.I.L.D.Cats, Daemonites, Coda, International Operations, and Wetworks would all make for great Vs. expansions in my opinion.
2000AD could have a set or two dedicated to it, I mean it has a huge universe.
Crossgen I don't know about really. Kabuki is fairly small-ish.
Hellboy would be friggin' fantastic.
I think the Witchblade/Darkness mythos has an outstanding chance with Indy, but I'd expand it to include all Topcow productions anyway.
As for stuff that wasn't in Indyclix 1, I want Grendel.
They could stretch it out into two sets I think, Pre-Orion would consist of Hunter Rose, Argent, Stacy, Christine Spar, Brian Li-Sung, generic police and thugs, and several other characters. Equipment would be sparse, the Devil's Fork being about the only thing I can think of. This would have a difficult time in Drafts however, due to the lack of team affiliations. I see a Police and a Grendel one, maybe an Arkham Asylum Hunter Rose. ;)
Post-Orion would feature Grendel Prime, Grendel Christus, Goran, Red Devils army characters, mutants, and the calvalcade of characters featured in other various Grendel Tales comics. Equipment would be much heavier in this set. The speeder-bike and light saber like things, antique sword, the Devil's Fork (or The Relic) and Hunter's skull (which could have many bizarre properties, the least being the ability to move in and out of the hidden field). The drug Grendel could be another interesting bit of equipment. I could see a few plot twists already, Agrami Treachery, The Oath, Devil's Choice (opponent chooses between two of his own stunned characters for a KO). The only problem with this is that I don't see too many factions here. There could be some for the various Grendel clans (Agrami, Crow, etc.), a vampire faction, and a faction for the Khan himself.
Now, about TMNT, they aren't "too childish". Anyone who says that hasn't read the actual comics (not talking the Archie stuff here).
I think they'd fit. Again, we run into the problem of too few factions.
Savage Dragon would be great, plenty of factions to pick from. Pair him up with the Hellboy set and it could be perfect.
Nocturnals would be great. Gangsters, mutant animals, gunslinging zombies, mad scientists, and ghosts all on the same team. We already have Brereton doing art in VS anyway, let's bring these folks in! ;)
