Dials and Dice are cool, but generally not cool for tournament play. Some kind of Paper and pen/pencil is the best way to do it as memebers previously mentioned.
Does anyone know what UDE's stance on keeping track of this is? Wizards has a strict no dice/counter rule unless the opponent has both livesw on one paper, or he head judge isn't worried about problems.
And NO NOTES, docx!?!?! That sucks, especially if a line under a turn is considered a note. I like to do that to see the game's turn by turn overweiw of damage, and it's not like you gain a strategic advantage over anyone by doing so.
Has anyone seen those "Crest Counters" from YGO Dungeon Dice? Its like a abacus sort of counter. They work PERFECTLY. I thought of it awhile ago and was excited to see that it has 5 rows with 10 counters on each row. They look pretty cool and fit perfectly into any deck box. You get two with the dungeon dice starter which is only like $15 or you can get it from some online retailers for a few bucks.
I think if UDE fashioned a VS Endurance counter in the same style, it would be golden.
I think Upperdeck does have an official stance on how you must keep track of life/endurance. At the Yugioh regional tournaments I've been to, the head judge has always made an announcement at the beginning of the tournament saying that life points must be kept track of by pen and paper. I think I was told that this is so discrepancies between opponents tallies can be traced back to where there was a problem. My local official tournament has never said anything about the use of life point counters, and I don't think that they care, but at the big tournaments it is definitely an issue. I haven't read anything about how UD will treat VS, but I think it's safe to assume that at Pro Tour events and Pro Tour qualifiers pen/pencil and paper will be required.
I asked the Upper Deck guys at GAMA, and they said that they are not planning on making a life counter for sale at this time.
On another note, Ultra Pro makes those little card sized dials for Magic that go up to 40. One of their reps said that they're changing the dial inside soon, to go up to 50 instead of 40...
Still thinkin that paper and pen is the best way to go with such a high number life total...
Keeping track of Life Point changes turn by turn would hardly qualify as "note taking."
Note Taking tends to refer to the writing down of events w/ card names and what happened. Also writing down cards in the opponent's hand and Deck when you are able to see either.
My thoughts: Not only do these acts slow down play, they can also disadvantage the opponent long-term

Winning the game also tends to give the opponent a disadvantage in the long term. :ermm: That just seems absurd. I can see why bringing notes into a match would be unacceptable, but notes you take during a match do not contain information that you are not already aware of.
On all my VS games we've been using a little dry erase board. No refuse from paper and no chewed up erasers, makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Only downside, I'm a little bothered by the smell of dry erase markers, other than that, it's worked out pretty well.
