Thor~ I think you used up all of VSRealms' exclamation points. All I get are (1)s now, even while holding shift.
Netdecking is fine. If you're upset that Titans, The Brave and the Bold, Common Enemy, Sentinels, TNB, Big Brotherhood, F4 Equips, F4 Beats and probably now GK are all going to get their day in the sun, I have no idea why you play this game. Netdecking gets irritating when everyone runs Doc Samson/ Nightcrawler/ Triple Hooker cheese, or you only see Vial Affinity, but when there's as much diversity at the top, plus plenty of people change around some of the cards in their decks to fit their style/ collection, you have a very healthy, fun game.
Besides, if you don't like netdeckers, its pretty easy to meta against them. You know what deck their playing. If you're sick of facing a field of 3 or more netdecks, well, you're looking at a balanced and healthy tournament environment.
Well, This was the same problem YGO had, People only ran the deck that could win, and at the same time, have a lower chance of being countered.
With VS, you have to know, that when you play a certain deck, it will have a advatage over that deck, but at the sametime, have weaknesses to their type.
For example, SS has decent power, and have a theme.
AK's have many traps and crazy tricks, though they lack the power to do alot without powerups and card effects ( though Mr.Freeze is Amazing for a 6 Drop.)
Every deck seems to have S/W, so it really just balances them out.
lasuther's got it right. i started playing about a month and a half ago. i didn't understand many of the combo's or the timing or anything really. but i immediately started checking the deck lists of the winners and collecting those cards to make the killer decks, and they playing with my friends to get the tempo of them down...
now...no, i havne't gone out and won any tournaments or anything...but i understand the game well enough now to start on my own deck concepts (the mono-Doom deck will make a comeback soon!!! SO SAYS DOOM!!!!)
I don't netdeck myself but all i say is more power to the netdeckers.. they make my job easier.. who wouldn't want to play in a pcq where you know 90% of the decks are going to be a certain decK? now i playtest against it and my rogue monster smashes it to pieces.. woohoo i just got top 8 and i know it.. they don't know my deck so i have an element of surprise.. let them netdeck because we'll know their deck inside and out
exactly, netdeckers are annoying, but just remember that you'll always be a step ahead of them. So people start running lots of Common Enemy, you make your next deck to whoop them, like GK or AI. It's a cycle, you have to know that when you play these games.
Right now my main deck is Medium Brotherhood, very similar to the one that finshed 2nd(?) at Origins 10k, my second deck is Sentinels a la vomit style, yet very different. Then i have my Unafiliated deck. If i were to go to a PCQ tomorrow, what would i play? Deffinatly not the unaffiliated. Its fun, it'll win sometimes, but not enough for me to waste 20 bucks to get in. Sentinels? Maybe, but probably not, because i haven't worked out all the kinks. Of my three decks right now its my favorite, its fun, it can win regularly(sometimes) and it can win in unexpected ways. Med BroHood? This would be my choice. The Meta has died down a little against it, i can usually beat TT, GK, B&B, and some times Common Enemy. I really don't see what is wrong with playing a deck that has proven its capable of winning. If you want to waste your money, then i'll send you my unafiliated deck, but until it improves in consistency, its a fun deck.
Ultimately the VS system is a game, and on one level or another everyone will be playing it for fun. If you were just playing for money, you could almost certainly make more money quicker and easier by playing poker or (shock horror) working for a living.
The issue comes that everyone has different definitions of what is fun. Everyone tends to like winning, but for some people winning is only fun if it is done on their own terms (that is to say with a deck they have designed or winning in spectacular fashion). If people have more fun by not worrying about designing decks and just winning by playing well, then good luck to them.
Personally I really like winning by playing decks that are kind of 'tricksy'. Before it was clear that Titans was good I had already stated that it was the deck I would play for the PC simply because it was fun and had lots of little tricks. If someone else had have built the deck and showed it to me, or I had picked it up from the internet I'd have been just as happy while playing it. The fact that I was in at the design level too was just a little plus.
I have friends who seem to take more satisfaction from building broken tier 1 decks than they do from winning with them. (Incidentally if you get people like this on your team then everyone has a lot of fun)
If you turn up to a PCQ with a deck and lose a lot and don't have fun then it might be worth working out what your goals are. If you are going to be happiest winning the PCQ, then you might have to take a hit on 'originality' in order to be able to realistically compete. If you will never be happy playing someone elses deck, you might not mind losing a bit more. If you are unhappy with both of these occurances, either knuckle down and design and practise and metagame until you can win on your own terms or find a new arena for your talents.
Ah but GDE if the poor slob doesn't see you coming, that stick will crack his skull as good as any uzi...
Point: net decking is good for winning as you gain everyones collective strength. You also gain everyones collective weaknesses. Keep firing in one direction and it won't be long before people attack from another.
Net deck if it helps you or don't it ultimately doesn't matter...
I will have fun playing regardless of the deck my opponent has. Right now with the game being well balanced there is no Yata or anything overly broken.
So in the words of Justi Uecki Tylor, " Do... Whatever you want!"
