i think we need a sample deck for each arch type cyke named.
here they are again.
air force
x-bird
Mind Wipe(discard)
beatdown
pheonix lock
direct stun
recovery
as we get the best line up for each build ill copy them and move them to the first page of this thread for easy access.
X-Men is the team that made me like comics. I've got to admit I played other decks before MSM came out (Brotherhood, Teen Titans) but I wasn't really enjoynig the game. But now that X-Men has become the team they SHOULD have been from the beginning, its the only deck I'll ever play.
Here is my build:
3x Cyclops, Slim
3x Nightcrawler, Kurt Wagner
2x Archangel, Warren Worthington III
4x Wolverine, Logan
2x Banshee, Sean Cassidy
2x Nightcrawler, Fuzzy Elf
4x John Proudstar, Thunderbird
4x Archangel, Angel of Death
2x Rogue, Powerhouse
1x Storm, Weather Witch
1x Wolverine, Berserker Rage
1x Professor X, Worlds Most Powerful Telepath
1x Magneto, Master of Magnetism
4x Bamf!
4x Ultimate Sacrifice
4x Children of the Atom
4x Home Surgery
4x Mega Blast
4x Flying Kick
What a great thread. Thank god. I wanted X-men to work as bad as you all do, I'm in the process of testing a bunch of builds and I'll give you some feed back later.
X-Men are good, they are tier 1. They will win the next major tournament when WoS is legal. They were also good pre WoS when i won a tournament with a straight x men deck. And i came in 2nd place at a major tournament with it, i wish i could buy more WoS but i dont have the funds, i cant get a job since im only 15.
first off to demondeyes.....its good to ahve you aboard
and to KaibaDragon9
let me make a few suggestions
by the standards started by this thread this look like a beat and recover deck. and it looks pretty strong. the only thing you seem to be lacking is def but who need def when your team can just be brought back to life. aint nothing like your oppoent stunning your whole team and losing most of his team in the process just to have you ultimate sac and lose only one instaed of only keeping one.
1 drops
None
i cant argue with this though i love dazzler plus her power is awsome. also it feeds colossus but since your not running him its not needed
2 drops
3x Cyclops, Slim
3x Nightcrawler, Kurt Wagner
2x Archangel, Warren Worthington III
thats alot od 2's but with 0 1's you have to make sure you can find one by turn 2 but turn 2 you can see as many as 12 cards so one of these 8 should have made it way there the only thing i would change is go with drop one of the characters and go with 4 of each of the other 2
3 drops
4x Wolverine, Logan
2x Banshee, Sean Cassidy
two very different styles of characters here. but both and awsome help to the x-men. wolverine is the machine we need to get back in the game if we miss a drop or two... and no one can stand up to him at his drop, not much pumping and he can even take a mammoth. no suggestions here...i like this drop
4 drop
2x Nightcrawler, Fuzzy Elf
4x John Proudstar, Thunderbird
good number of drops here thunderbird is a beast and nightcrawler add much need mobility to the team.
5 drop
4x Archangel, Angel of Death
the only thing i would suggest where is a back up 5 drop in case you miss arch but i guess prodstar can fill that role if the time comes...you can always drop a 3 and three drop here if it comes down to it.
6 drop
2x Rogue, Powerhouse
1x Storm, Weather Witch
i would really use colossus but that me there is nothing actually wrong with these 2 i just really like a 16/12 6 drop
7 drop
1x Wolverine, Berserker Rage
1x Professor X, Worlds Most Powerful Telepath
1x Magneto, Master of Magnetism
i also ran magneto in my x-men deck...wonder why we all do that....probly cause magneto was right and were just scared to admit it
4x Bamf!
love this card and should find room in it in any x-men build
4x Ultimate Sacrifice
this card is very situational, but if your not playing def pumps like acro dodge it is woth that space
4x Children of the Atom
great card like bamf should be in any x-build
4x Home Surgery
i dont like this card in the x-men, actually x-men is the only place i can see it being usefull, cause of the x's school gaurenteeing you having a ready character. but your not running x's school so id drop it completly
4x Mega Blast
4x Flying Kick
no need explaining them...if you have room that are good in anydeck
locations
3x Danger Room
3x Madripoor
these play right into your beat style....just adding numbers to numbers, it is hard however to over look things like x's school or siege.....
over all id take out the home surgeries for team tactics or aireal assault and find a way to work in x's school
ultimte sacrifice is only useful is forsee your enitre field wiped out in one turn, something that you generally want to happen, and something really happens if you face titans or vomit or any other type of hard hitting swarm build, i would lower this card to a possible 2 of, and even if that.
as for some tourny worthy deck list lets look at warmachines dragoncon build.
The Uncanny JanXmen
4 Nightcrawler Kurt Wagner
4 Wolverine Logan
3 Havok
4 Gambit
4 Storm Ororo Munroe
4 Wolverine James Howlett
3 Professor X Charles Xavier (I have since changed to Cyclops Scott Summers)
4 Colossus
2 Rogue Powerhouse
3 Professor X Worlds Most Powerful Telepath
1 Wolverine Berserker Rage
2 Apocalypse
4 Children of the Atom
4 Cerebro
4 Combat Reflexes
4 Have a Blast
2 Burn Rubber
4 Shape Change
first off he has a very strong beatdown oriented deck, with only 4 COTa for recovery, now this was pre-WOS, so of course siege perilous, a freakin great card, is not in this build.
secondly, cerebro is very usful for deck cycling and charachter searching, since the x-men don't have access to tutors like signal flare, they have to make do with cerebro, which is not that bad at all, since it has great synergy with colossus.
now some of the most controversial choices are havok and james howlett. havok is a beast if you have even initiatve, with him and proudstar out onturn 4, you can do some serious damage, and if you like the team tactics/xaviers shcool combo, then havok can outshine logan.
but as warmachine mentions, the main cog of this deck is james holwett, and his amazing defensive potentail, with cards like combat relfexes and burn rubber, each time james is stunned and placed into the back row, those cards can put him back into the front row, ready to take more punishment.
this deck was made for even intitives with havok and now proudstar on 4, and with colossus on 6, also james providing good turn 5 defesne, but he does have alternate choices in case he misses a drop or does not get his desired intiative.
i have done some tweaking to this deck, with new WOS cards, i have included some bamfs, siege perilous, and proudstars, it has done very well.
maybe you guys can give it a look over and see if it works for you.
4x Finishing Move
4x Bamf
3x Fastball Special
3x Ultimate Sacrifice
3x CoTa
3x Savage Beatdown
3x Press the Attack
2x Power Nexus
well the deck is still in its first stages
but it is currently 3-0 in MTGplay
i cant believe i forgot about XSGY
i gotta find a way to fit that in as well...
any help with it would be appreciated too
i had a Phoenix Force Stall Deck
but its been dismantled for now
because im testing out a Mutant Nation build
Mimics, Avalons, r2p, and Magneto 8 drop
simply pwnage.. :devious:
I just read through the thread and I'm amazed and glad. The guy started thinking outside the box without using the actual card and found a great way to win. It's a beaming light to all X-players out there.
Here is a deck i've been toying with for a while. haven't made it yet, so its not tested and it might not play as i've imagined, but here it is anyways:
Characters:
4 Longshot
4 Nightcrawler: Kurt Wagner
4 Wolverine: Logan
4 Wolverine: James Howlet
4 Wolverine: Berserker Rage
4 Rogue: Power Absorption
4 Rogue: Powerhouse
2 Jean Grey: Marvel Girl
3 Jean Grey: Phoenix Force
Plot Twists:
4 Children of the Atom
4 Bamf!
3 Ultimate Sacrifice
4 Acrobatic Dodge
4 Entangle / or Burn Rubber / or combination
Locations:
4 Cerebro
4 Avalon Space Station
This is basically a phoenix stall deck. you use longshot to draw cards....hopefully (naming wolvie and rogue) and stall till turn 8. then if your opponent can't deal with ASS, you win.
I thought I'd share my decklist on this thread too. It's an x-men curve deck that tries to take full advantag of the recovery and non-stun properties the x-men have. Unfortunately, it has to go a bit outside the x-men in order to fill out the curve properly (on the high end).
4 Night Crawler, Kurt Wagner
4 Wolverine, Logan
3 Havok
4 John Proudstar @ Thunderbird
3 Storm, Ororo Munroe
4 Archangel
2 Cyclops, Scott Summers
2 Colossus
2 Emma Frost
4 Magneto, MOM
2 Apocalypse
4 Cerebro
4 Bamf
4 Children of the Atom
4 Savage Beatdown
3 Entangle
4 Shapeshift
3 Flame trap
The deck works pretty well. Shapshift is awsome netting you +3 def at least, and you have entagle to steal initiative from your opponent. Flame trap is there to stop all the weenies masses. Cerebro is a must. Mulligan a hand without it.
So why no ultimate sacrifice? It obviosly doesn't work in this deck. I don't like my alternate 4 or 5 drops (storm & cyclops). Anyone have any suggestions on what could replace them?
Not many characters. I would like to run Psylocke over the 3 drop wolverine, but I need all of the wolverines to act as a 2nd guess for Longshot. I am thinking of switching out the 7 drop Prof X for another 7 drop Wolverine, as I despise character replacement on the battlefield. Additionally, when my discard strategy works, the 7 drop Wolverine is great to clean up on their top decked low drop on turn 7.
Plot Twists:
4x Children of the Atom
4x Savage Beatdown
4x Thinking Outside of the Box (Longshot/Cerebro)
3x Night Vision (Longshot)
4x Bamf
1x Concrete Jungle (trying this out)
2x Have a Blast
In playing last nights tournament, I was able to get my opponents top decking in 2 out of 3 duels by the 6th turn. However, one bad round of not getting ether Cerbro's or Longshot did me in against a Teen Titan deck.
I think I may put some Greater of Two Evils back in in leiu of Danger Room and Madipoor. Still processing and will playtest more today.
In general, I prefer to have ongoing stuff in my resource row, hence all the locations/ongoing plot twists.
Originally posted by psych_nov What about sunfire? Do you think he's worth it with all these weenie strategies out there? (tt, syn sin, sent, tnb)
sunfire is a metagame choice, if you really believe your deck is weak against those builds then include him, but i really feel that the x-men have strong enough recovery to make them have an almost even number of guys on the field as titans, SS and TNB- with sents, just forget it. and i would rather have a 5 drop that i think is more useful in all my matches than just great in some, but not in others.
