I have played against a few X-Statix decks. A couple have been mono and one X-Change. They are quite strong in either format. The X-Change format actually works better when you don't play for single character out so you can use cards like Grandstanding for a big boost and Orphan/Good Guy for a nice defensive boost on each character out.
I'm not sure that I agree that X-Statix is the best team of the set, though. They're definitely a good one, though. Someone that's played X-Statix says he lost to Curve Sentinels when they played Mark II's instead of Bastion, negating Zeitgeist's ability easily. X-Statix may end up being better in Modern Age than Golden for reasons like that, Puppet Master, and Doom with Mystical Paralysis.
