Originally posted by En-Kur What does me sucking have anything to do with what I have posted here? Thank you Captain Obvious for taking time to post what I have said many times before. I'd just like to see some reward for someday not sucking. Honestly, since all three of my top eights have seen me finish 2,3,4, I guess I am really not in the camp of not being able to pay for the trip. But I sure as hell don't want the next time I make a top eight and blunder my way through a match and end up making only $400. I'd be saddened.
Well out of the near 3,000 words you squeezed out, around 900-1000 of them were about you sucking. So about a third of your article. I'm being generous as well. Considering the whole 10k debate seemed to be stemming from your suck. I could have just been a dick and asked why you waste the front page with pointless articles.
Disclaimer: Just to let everyone know as well, I suck at this game something terrible, only winning two PCQ's out of the ten plus I've attended. Please don't see this as an attempt to claim I'm better than Mr. Spears, because I'm sure that just isn't the case. I'm just a bye donating money to Team Realmworx.

What happened?
Well, I lost to the eventual winner because a) he had a mullet (more on that later) and b) I foolishly chose not to mulligan a Mark II, Mark V, 2x Reconstruction Program hand and got Hounds locked. Remember kiddies, Bolivar on one is the most important play in the mirror. In fact, we’d save a lot of time in New York where 65% of everyone will be playing Ryan Jones’ pick for deck requiring the most skill to play, if both opponents agree that whoever plays Bolivar on one when the opponent doesn’t, wins the game.
My second loss came to straight League that made top eight because I failed to RTFCs and/or failed to draw a Nasty Surprise in eighteen cards. I am going to take the loss here even if I was a bit unlucky. Had I realized that Ra’s eight was so incredibly broken I’d probably not have recovered a dude that I did and got the box formation and got to stun Ra’s for the win. This is what actually separates me from most of the really good players in this game. They realize what the best play is during the game and not hours later either by thinking hard about the loss or having one of their friends that can actually play the game point out their glaring play mistakes. You probably need more details to understand exactly what I did wrong, but that would make me look even more sucky, so I’ll pass.
Loss three came to Vince from Team Misunderstood who along with Sam Gilly took the gamble of playing Gamma Doom which is an auto loss to almost every deck in the meta except you guessed it, Curve Sents. I actually beat Gamma Doom like round three but there was no beating Vince. He couldn’t have gotten a more perfect draw if I let him set his deck, and when turn eight rolls around, the only damage taken by him was when he stunned his Robot Destroyer. The writing was on the wall. He Gammas here with Latveria and then drops Imperiex on nine which should have led to my scoopage. But sometimes it’s fun to let one of the best players in the game smash your face with a big ####ing dude. Maybe it’s my love for all things Kibler, but I just couldn’t scoop without getting bashed a couple of times for twenty-eight. Vince ended up playing Sam round ten or he’d have made top eight and that would be three people that beat me making Sunday.
Last loss haunts me still. I hear Ryan whispering to me softly, "You are going to lose to random jank if you do not play Anarchy or Micro chump." So of course I get paired up against New Gods/FF burn that has Mother Box and Vikyn and Ligthray FTW!!! Triple Cosmic Radiation on seven with Lightray, Torch, and two random dudes with Advanced Hardware means that David makes zero money in Detroit. The only saving grace here is that the guy playing this seriously cool deck is a friend of mine from the Flying Tricycle (the guys that make those kick ass spin counters). It doesn’t make me feel any better about finishing 29th but I guess it’s better than being put out of the money by Scott Gerhardt or attending an Innovation Gaming PCQ. Neither of which I have ever done.
I am selfish enough to say otherwise because I wasn’t the one that made top eight
The funny thing about this tournament is that a lot of us are very elitist. When Team Misunderstood and Team Realmworx show up, we sit around in our little group, occasionally say something to the other upper 5% that happen by and pretty much laugh at everyone else that thinks they are going to win any of our money. I even took pictures of other people not us so I can make fun of them and say things like, "Randoms donating money to me" or "Look at all the byes." I do this not because I feel the need to ridicule other people to make myself feel/look better no matter what Stubarnes will say in an upcoming post, but because I am just arrogant enough to think no one ever stands a shot other than my close circle of friends. Understand that I recognize my limitations and know that if I don’t practice more, take pills for memory loss, and stop doing crack, that I am going to fade away like the Boz. Remember when he was like the second coming of Lawrence Taylor or something? Of course, I don’t even have my one hit wonder yet. My only claim to fame is that some people think I am gay
I actually took this picture as I was wandering around trying to steal everyone's tech.
Too bad I couldn't beat the other in Chicago.
That's my boys there. We all figured it would be an all TeamRealmworx top eight. Well, we randomly picked Slack's name out of the hat and decided to let him join us. Only Vidi made it though. Stupid, stupid game.
Originally posted by En-Kur My biggest gripe is that they are nothing more than super regional PCQs. Who in their right mind would travel, and when I say travel I mean fly into the city and get a hotel, etc, when they know to even break even at one of these events, you pretty much have to make top four. Yes, that’s right, not top eight. $400 is ridiculous and is the main problem we will talk about in a few.
Who wouldn't love more money from the 10Ks? I definitely support that. I just don't want them to reduce the number for 10Ks. I think a lot of 10Ks provide people more chances to play in professional events which is a great thing. Reducing the 10K numbers would be a bad move because it would make the events more elitist.
Instead of increasing the payout, I think UDE should just focus on having more 10Ks so people didn’t have to travel so much. I think they are doing a good job with that. So far, there have been three 10Ks I’ve been to this year and my cost is always gas to get there and back, which is less than $100. There are a few more 10Ks I plan on attending this year as well.
I would like to see 10Ks move from the Golden Age format and support Modern Age. It would be a nice change of pace.
I think the Pro Circuit is the place for professional players to spend their money and go all out. There are 4 PCs a year that have great payout. I say, focus more on going to those and stick to the 10Ks that are close to home. I don't think most players what to see the same the same people in the top 8 every 10K. It gives others a chance to place. Hopefully UDE will keep pushing the 10K system so there are more for people to attend.
As a hobby player who has a terrible national rank, and someone En-Kur would no-doubt label a "bye", I wouldn't mind if the bigger names in this game stayed home every once in a while so the rest of us could have a prayer at winning. At least maybe we could win a t-shirt or something. :)
No offense, but it's also good to see Curved Sentinels finally getting trumped. I think the next evolution of this deck will center around Armies of Qward.
And I thought of that Lightray-Cosmic Radiation combo when DSM first came out. It was only a matter of time before it got exploited.
It would be nice to see the prize money for 10K events spread out a bit more past the Top 8. At this point, travel to a 10K is limited for me because of reasons already mentioned. If making Top 20 would at least pay for the trip I would try to make it to a few more.
I've been to 2 so far: SoCal, because it was at GenCon and NJ because it's close to me. Any father than a 5-6 hour drive (forget taking a plane) isn't worth it.
Ok so basically I get this from the unfathomable Mr. Spears:
1. "Pro" players don't want to travel out to 10Ks because there isn't enough free money for them if they don't take it all
2. The solutions to this problem is less number of 10Ks or paying out to a smaller number of people.
3. Pro players act a lot like the French when congregating at premiere events
I really don't see how this "problem" effects anyone but a small percentage of the player base, and therefore is not really a problem at all. In the end its really an inconvience to some players and advantage to those of us that usually don't measure up to the skill level of the higher level players. And lets face it....when it comes to a street battle between these two groups(and it will!) there are a lot more of us then you punk pros! :p
Myabe UDE should do something like that. There really is no money in 10k's (maybe that explains why I havent attended one since Origins last year). This new MTG system blows everything UDE has done out of the water. I mean comon guys, free airfair and money just to attend big events? Thats pretty awesome.

Two riots in the Realms in one week? Hot stuff. Just remember, he left me off the Pro list. In fact, I think us scrubs could hold our own with even numbers. Especially with erick on our side.
That is f'in sweet. If UDE (or anyone else for that matter) wants to pay me to go events just tell me where and when :). Sounds like a very cool system they've got going there.
Oh man, the Pro Players' Club is ridiculous. I'd be all over that like white on rice.
I think a real Day 2 at the 10ks would be a good idea. Like someone said, the cut for X-3 usually ends up falling between 20th and 25th. I think it would be neat if they cut like they do at the PC--X-3 makes day 2--and play 3 rounds for the higher finishers on Sunday morning leading up to the t8 cut.
And, of course, I am in favor of more money. I don't see how anyone could not be in favor of more money.
$2,500 payout is a nice prize. Even $1,200. It's not a life-changing sum of money (at least for me). If that's not enough money for Vs pros to play super-hero cards professionally, then maybe you big shot pros should go into professional poker or real estate or law school or whatever.
I think a more pertinent problem are judges who will enforce slow play rules. In detroit, every round was 60 minutes. a 30 minute round, then an extra 30 minutes on the people who, when time was called, decided that it would be best to take as much time as possible to do the most mundane of things.
For instance:
Quite clearly last turn of game. (meaning no one was drawing any more cards) Signal flare. Take 2 minutes to shuffle. faces of doom, shuffle some more. cosmic radiation. think about whether you will burn your opponent. radiation again, think about burning your opponent.
I have seldomly been as angry as I was watching everyone delay the tournament as long as they did.
