I dunno, on one hand doing this can attract more players into playing VS, but on the other hand... Don't tell me we're going to get DC Modern, Marvel Modern, Star Wars Modern, DBZ Modern, etc.? Kamehameha PTs? That's really gonna turn me off of VS...
the sandman he is talking about is from d.c. not marvel.
sandman (daniel or his father) is the master of the dreaming. like in the bedtime story stuff about the sandman coming and sprinkling sand in your eyes to make you fall asleep.
the book is in no way intended for children.
thus he will see no vs time is his theory.
i think he may be right that it would definitely be a while first, but i don't think it is impossible.
i really want to see more cartoon properties that are comics now( thundercats is under d.c. right now, and they did a crossover with superman a couple of years ago).
and with thor's hammer searching for thor, the sword of omens could employ a very similar effect where it can only equip to lion-o and instead of putting it under your deck, it could allow you to search only while lion-o is defending or some such.
or it could just go back to your deck to find the t-cats for you.
i think that comic based properties and licensed properties could be great for the game over time.
buffy and angel are both comics, and aliens vs predator would add in some interesting options (all concealed teams? or the ability to pay x endurance and move a predator to either zone ? cool)
star wars isn't a huge stretch either. once more, it is comic based. force powers could easily be made as either payment powers or plot twists.
star trek on the other hand wouldn't make the most exciting stuff to add in. (what, the federation characters cannot attack any player that has not attacked you first..? that wasn;t a great idea the first time they tried that)
When I said DBZ was a comic, I in no way meant that anything that has ever had a comic deserved to be in Vs.
Star Wars is a movie. Star Wars is a very good movie. Star Wars comics are merchandising. Star Wars is NOT a comic.
Honestly, I'd probably prefer if the game stayed Marvel and DC. Flavor is too important to throw away callously. Some independent comics *might* be ok, but I really don't think so.
Of course, fan sets are always great fun. Make these sets yourself as much as you want! But outside of very few comic properties, I don't think it would be good for Vs.
Originally posted by Yamcha888 Well I played DBZ since it started and well that totally went one sided and I would rather it have a type of system like VS.
If you check out the new version of the DBZ game it has a lot of Vs. influence in the game. They've actually done a good job with it.
Back to the original topic however, this is a game based on comic book heroes/characters. I'm all about keeping it that way. I prefer Marvel and DC only and don't care to see any indy comics sprinkled into the game.

.
I've seen the new game and A. I'm not playing it because I played the game since it came out in 2000/01 I don't remember but the came kept screwing people over and blah blah and wasn't like the show at all.
B. Look who my favorite character is I know he got stuff but when it goes to the trunks saga he has nothing anymore.
Yamcha888 and anyone who wants to keep it just with Marvel and DC are true comic fans you guys are afraid of change.
Not really. It's a matter of flavor.
I don't think Magic would have been as popular if the fantasy theme wasn't so prevelant throughout the game. If suddenly you could summon a Blue Spaceship to fight a Red Alien, you might feel out of place trying to counterspell a laser blast.
I have always been of the point of view that the Mechanics created in the VS system would allow almost any good licensed franchise to be converted in to a great new game with. It does not require it to be integrated in to the current Marvel/DC world. It could be a separate gaming experience. VS has the potential succeed where other mechanics and companies failed. If, for example, Mech Warriors were to fail as figure based "Clics" system, it would easily adapt to VS and quite well received as its own game. It does not have to be part of the current installment of Marvel/DC. But it would benefit from the large base of players that understand the mechanics and general rules functionality.
Having said that, I can think of many games I wish were actually based on VS but only stand-alone.
and if you look at magic again, there are quite a few elements that are pretty out of place: this last block of asian themed characters and cards (huh? samurai and ninjas in magic? while interesting in ways, that pretty much falls under the whole spaceship thing to me.)
vs system has shown huge success as a superhero game.
but it doesn't need to only be a super hero game. that is the point we are trying to make here.
a mech could be a 4 cost piece of equipment or more, for that matter.
pilots could be those 0 cost characters that keep getting referenced, but not really seen.
it could be done.
and while star wars may have started off as a movie, i'm sure that if you take another look, you'll find way more comic book content than movie content ;)
sounds like a comic book to me :)
same for aliens and predators and robocop and the like.
didn't frank miller even write a robocop movie or 2?
and yeah, lightsabers as equipment that can only attach to a character with a force rating makes a lot of sense to me.

The only I agree with the most is the part about VS being adaptable to any gaming franchise. The mechanics are focused around combat, and since almost every single comic/anime/movie/etc. is based around fighting (in some way) it could be done.
This is not just for the players. This could also be a way for UDE to expand the player base (by appealing to more of the market.)
Sure you could convert anything that has been popular into a vs card set, but should you? For me the answer is no.
I like playing Marvel and DC there are two giant universes to explore with the last seven sets we have barely scratched the surface. If you start throwing in DBZ sets then lots of customers that want to play in a superhero univerese will be alientated and lots of good comics will not get sets.
SO in other words no buffy sets,DBZ, Str Wars, Star Trek, or any of that lot. Lets keeep the flavor of this game where it is.
Now having said that if they feel the need to use the system and mechanics of VS for a Star Wars game cool thats great Ill buy a box, but I dont want them to be allowed in the marvel and DC VS sytem.
Originally posted by everharm VS just for comics, anything else and there will be mass exodus from the game.
I think it would be the opposite. If, say, DBZ and Star Wars were the next two sets after JLA, you would get DBZ and Star Wars fans (which there are a LOT of) into the game. Marvel/DC fans could still play the cards from their favorite teams.
