but avengers is just as hard to beat as sentinels, it just doesn't have the toolbox to adapt as they do. You think bastion is a design constraint for decks, but so are black panther, hawkeye, wonderman, and hercules.

I agree....and since there were even more Avengers decks than CS in the UK 10k, I would be more worried about if your deck can beat Avengers than CS.
I can hardly criticize success within reason (unlike unnamed others) but I do think running beast and four hercules is... far from optimal.
I do understand the reasoning completely, but that doesn't mean I agree with it. They are cards that are never part of your optimal draw, which to me means they need to be something better.
i think.. if he is not using leaders... beast is a good character.`

I was in favor of dropping 1 Herc for another 5 or another pump. 3 is a good number with no search (but there are some nice cycling effects). But Karl went down with it so the final choice was his and it seemed to be to no ill effect so meh. Beast on the other hand was a joint choice. We liked the extra 1 drops (as much as you hate them), the extra body to enable a team attack (for NR) or stun upwards early on meant for some great looking board advantage. They're also choice targets for cycling.
This deck was originally put together for a no-rares marvel modern event (to encourage people to use the cards for the pre-release/new set) and grew from there. We thought that it was good but your win at the 10k proved that it has a fighting chance in a GA environment which was the reason it was played,

Thats not an excuse since MMA is the next year...
but there is a thing.... MJ's avenger Vs Karl's Avengers.. will win the one who draw more Heroies in reserve, Who draw the mansion early and who draws more Call down the l.

This is an excuse as some people actually play for fun. It also encourages people who are new to the game as they only need to buy boosters from 2 different sets in order to have access to all the cards that we do. Just because a format isn't going to be played 'pro' for a while doen't mean that you can't run a league or event using that format.
Karl Bown here, just got back from Gencon UK at midnight after a long drive, with trophy - but no money yet :-)
I'd like to say thanks to all the members of Team Comic Culture whose help in testing, deck-building etc. enabled me to win the 10K, and to all the guys at UDE who worked so hard to make the event a success.
I'll try and post more after I have had a sleep, but just a quick note about the 8 one drops. The only card search/draw in the deck is Call Down the Lightning, making sure you have a drop on turn one allows you to start cycling your deck from turn one, and makes it more likely that you will be able to use Natasha, and have an extra character available for use with Warbird. I don't remember a single game where I missed my one drop, and I think they are crusial to the deck.
Highlights of the tournament for me include Natasha beating up 7 drop Magneto on her own (well OK she did have 3 beatdowns!) for the win in game 10, and coming back in one game from -22 to 9 to tie it up at -22 each, then taking another 26 damage next turn and still winning by inflicting 35 of my own!
