Interestingly, while pure resource acceleration does not exist in VS, there ARE ways to get asymmetric depletion; that is, you can set your opponent behind in resources.
Several cards can perform the latter function, most of which rely on discard effects. Josef Witschi can force an opponent with no hand and a location to be put behind a resource. Justice League of Arkham x2 means an opponent who had no hand going into the turn cannot play a resource OR a non-Reservist character. KO'ing effects and From Qward With Hate can reset a game with you being several resource points ahead, potentially. Professor X (5) on-initiative can do what JLoA does if you'd had an X-Man out on the field to greet him. Apocalypse does this as well, but he's an 8-drop with average stats, so this makes some sense.
Notice that every single depletor requires some sort of setup to make work (including making it to turn 8 and then proceeding to 9 with Apocalypse). Any sort of resource point advantage is big, and that's why the only decks which deplete their resources intentionally plan to either win that turn, or get within a single stun of it.
If on turn 3 you have Apocalypse, the opponent will have only 2 resources on turn 4, and one resource point the rest of the game, NONE during the combat phase.
Even if you didn't KEEP 8 resources, just for 1 turn got the points, the game is over WAY before you would need to worry about Onslaught.
Sensei is not resource acceleration. He allows you to play plot twists with a threshold one higher than normal, and gives you (temporary) access to an additional card.
Takion is global resource acceleration. Your opponent gets it just like you do. UDE is not nearly as afraid of giving both players additional resources, or destroying a resource on both sides. It is the single-sided resource acceleration that was being asked about, and they will never make one-sided resource acceleration cards without a tremendous penalty to go with. Alicia Masters and Franklin Richards are probably the closest we'll ever see to resource acceleration of that kind, and we all know how easy to use that pair is (read: incredibly difficult and unreliable).
Oh i dont know, i dont think the concept of resource acceleration wouldnt be too bad. You just have to be careful not to let it go off too early. Taikon is a perfect example. Jumping from turn 6 to 8 is a good idea. Reminds me a little bit of how 6 drop luthor works for RS. You just mess up their curve a little.
I'd like to see more cards like taikon come out for turns 6 and 7 to maybe push games to 8 or 9 a little more often. They bring out bastion and hit you, but next turn you bring out 22/22 Amazo while all they can muster is Magneto since they probably dont run 8s. Could be a decent gimic as a game finisher other then the slow boring concept of puppetmaster/shimmer stall.
Brimstone with Unfair Advantage creates one-sided resource destruction. So Potentially with odd init...
Have Darkseid's Elite, Fearsome Five and MoE teamed up. Turn six drop Brimstone and Play unfair advantage, destroying an opponents resource after build. Turn 7, drop Psimon play unfair advantage and create the lock.
here are ways now that boost your characters far beyond the drop you are currently on now however., like runing black tom in an x-tatics deck with kang cross roads and that one that gives your character +2+2 while its only one character and force feild belt him every turn, that or combine thunderbolts with x-tatix and do the 3 drop atlas, with new identity, and force feild belt, it can be pretty sick. also theres equip decks like FF. I recently built a deck that is FF Squad equip. I have seen all of my characters get +8+8 and on to pof that Ape X, the 1 drop 1/1 became a 15/11 because i had 4 other characters out both with fantasticars and airskimmers, and then to be a complete butt i gave Ape X 2 Framistates, so on turn 7 i played an extremly strong 6, or weak 7, for the cost of 1 with 6 other resource points to play with.

This is a close as I have come (other than Josef)
The coolest thing about the Brimstone thing is that he has the same version name as Mr. Hyde, so he has extra synergy with the Masters of Evil.
Anyway, another 'if you work hard for it' way of disrupting your opponent's resources is to deck them out and then proceed to 'replace' their recourses ... similar to the Josef situation. Specifically for a Fall of Oa deck it would allow the player that grabbed his deck into hand to Have a blast the opponent into having very few resources and thus stall to 8 for the Imperially Funny win.

Actually, you are right. Next turn, your opponent proceeds to turn 2 even if he doesn't die. Blind-sided and Fast Getaway would be hot cards.

And my Nu School Variant uses the MK midnight sons teamup engine and drops Ghost rider on 8. Activate, and It's my board against your 6 drop.
unstable as all get out, but when it hits, Its really funny to see your opponents head explode like in Raiders of the lost Ark...
