It is also possible that Answer the Call was his only card, so after the Reign brought Shape to his hand he could have replaced a reservist with him for a recruit then played Answer the Call. We won't know until we get more details.
During the quarterfinal match between Hans Joachim Hoh and Karl Horn, Hoh received a penalty of disqualification from the tournament without prizes for unsporting conduct—cheating.
In the second game of the quarterfinals, Hoh recruited Golden Archer as a reservist from his resource row, playing a new resource (Answer the Call) in its place. His opponent responded with an Alfred Pennyworth activation to fetch Reign of Terror and then played the Reign, returning Hans's Shape to his hand and KO’ing a Jetpack attached to Shape. At this point, Golden Archer resolved, and Hans switched the Answer the Call in his resource row with Shape, an illegal play. The judge ruled that Hans had replaced his reservist resource with Answer the Call at the appropriate time, so the switch with Shape was illegal.
At this point, the game was stopped, and after discussion with both players and deliberation among the judging team, it was determined that the actions were consistent with cheating. Hans was issued the penalty of disqualification from the tournament without prizes, which was upheld by Head Judge Paul Ross following Hans's appeal.
As with all disqualifications, this incident will be followed up by an investigation. Upper Deck Entertainment takes all instances of cheating very seriously and is committed to keeping it out of their games.
reading that report, it sounds like he wasn't trying to do it sneaky, he did it right in front of everyone, so maybe he did just make a simple misplay. i mean if you're going to cheat, why do it in plain sight?
What I took from it was he played shape as his face down card when he used golden archer.....i figure he thought sense it was a chain effect he could switch them
I think that it is a shame that this happened. In such a public form such as the Pro Circuit, it is even more essential to maintain the dignity and intergrity of the game. I'm not qualified to comment on Hans' actions, but I certainly hope that the intent was not to blatently cheat. When the stakes are so high, it can't possibly be worth rishing everything to help your chances of winning ONE GAME slightly.
I would, however, have like to see how the Squadron deck faced off against CE in a match report.
It was New School that Karl was playing. For a CE vs Squadron game you can read Andre Muller vs Matthew Tatar, that's up right now.
From what I understand this all happened while Golden Archer's recruit was on the chain. Would I be correct in saying the resource is replaced immediately, even though the recruit hasn't yet resolved?

Ok, needed a place to get this off my chest, and this seems like the right thread.
From what I've read, it does seem like (and I hope it is) a simple mistake on Hans' part. What I don't understand is how UDE can sit there and on what might be a simple misplay, DQ someone without prize who has never even been mentioned in the same sentence as the word 'cheating' nor has ever been accused of.

yes your right but i think he thoguht that it didnt and he could replace it...then they blew it out of proportion and called it cheating
why could they not just reverse the game state to before he recruit golden archer, or was the state allready beyond repair. and if so then just a game loss would be fine, unless hans really did something under-handed, like telling them all the the giant scuplture of the Thing was moving, and when everyone looked he was suddenly playing a CS deck.
