First of all, I am a huge GL fan. That said, the GLs wouldn't stand a chance against "all the other DC heroes".
Let's just ignore the fact that the Corps would get mauled by the Ubermagic guys from DC (Spectre, Phantom Stranger, Mister E etc.). The phrase "all the other DC heroes" is very broad. If the GLs are going up against all of the others, then they are fighting the Legion of Superheroes, the Omega Men, L.E.G.I.O.N. and the Darkstars. I think they'd get overwhelmed (but any planet they were on would be destroyed).
So, let's rephrase the question:
Who would win between the GLC and the earthbased DC heroes at the point in continuity just prior to Guy Gardner quitting the Corps (and the ridiculously powerful magic characters are in some other dimension)?
Originally posted by cyke i actually like batman as a character, i just don't like when people and wirters make him out to be the greatest thing since breasts... exquisite breasts.
dude that's awesome... funniest thing i've read on here in a long time.
Not sure about the OYL but yea yer probably right. Well you better be right. There's 7200 of the ####ers now, and they better kick some ass.
I think I explained Batman fairly well in my post, and I was really really reaching. He's really overrated most of the time. Nobody's that good. Superman though... what's the point? He's not going to lose. Ever. Doomsday proved that. I like to worry that the hero won't win, to see the challenge. Dont get that from Supes.
And Josh Whedon writes a good Cyclops. Giving him a few jokes was nice.
There are far too many bad writers, and way too many bad fanboys. Like the ones who pleaded to have Hal Jordan back. Hope those guys are pleased with his horrible book, cuz I sure ain't.
And I dont think this thread is specific enough - Obviously it's the 3600 GLC, but do the heroes have 3600 as well, or is it whoever happens to be there when the fight starts? Is there that many heroes?
i can't wait for the OYL skip, it is such a fresh new thing, it is like a retcon, but not, things will be different things will change and it will be a global universe effect- eat that marvel!
although i will wait to buy 52 as a trade, i can't keep up with 24 as a tv show, how the hell am i gonna be able to buy 52 ever single week?
Alright, a lot of complaints on the broadness of it all, and I must apologize. My bro and I were just debating it so I went for it. Although, I plan to post these " A Real Vs." every weak and they will get more specific.
On Bats, yes BatBoy is my s/n he and Iron man are my fav. I agree that Bats is played out to be the brain of all things DC superheros, his latest stuff has slipped. But he and Iron Man, (and many others, like Green Arrow) are all sweet because they Don't have powers.
More specific, I can't, if you want to narrow it down, fine. Say Green Arrow is with the Lanters, say Gardner is with the Heroes, I don't care. Some of you are trying to cut out some of the DC Heroes, don't. They are all there, and this isn't the OYL. This is it, this is how it is. If you think it should be cut down on things like oliver queen, and guy gardner, seriously go for it. Pick the sides, put all the ifs in it you want, just don't tear away at what it is. ALL THe Other DC Heroes. That's a lot, but let's consider things like ... what would Blue Beetle EVER do to a GL? Some DC Heroes are useless, and while the same goes gor the GLs, I doubt so many were rookies.
Bats,
On the comment of Supes, I hate him, I hate everything about him and everything he is. He just seems like every possible super abilty was put in him, and he can't be hurt by SOO much.
On Bats, you all are right, he wouldn't have the GL logged, he wouldn't see it coming, and his greatest usefullness would be impromptu battle strategy.
supes can be a good character, but becuase he is such an arch-typical character it takes an amzingly good writer just to make him interesting.
i know i said that there are no bad characters, just bad writers.. and bad fanboys- but some characters are harder to make good than others, while at the same time remaining true to the character.
sure a writer can totally change things about a certain guy to make him interesting, and it has been done inthe past, but then the characters stops THAT character and is now something else.
writers are put into this situation with superman, the only real drama that can be added without creating something as powerful as him ALA doomsday, is to place the people he loves in danger.
This is it, everybody who has posted, repost. I want a final, end all vote. We had one week of debate, now it is game time, cast your vote.
DC-Heroes
OR
Green Lantern Corps.
I'll cast my vote at the end of the voting time, which is friday evening, around 10. Please everyone vote who is viewing this and who has already posted here.
Raven if you use the current timeline it would be unfair as 7,195 members of the GLC are rookies who've yet to recieve any real training. Or you could just say it's Ion vs the DCU... which isnt a fair fight for the DCU. It has to be the GLC in their prime... a few months before Hal flipped out.
Cyke : sorry, not looking forward to OYL. It's an obvious marketing ploy, but that doesnt matter... Everything either companys do is a marketing ploy. Reading through the previews, I just really don't care about any of it. The only thing in DC i'm looking forward to is The Joker in IC. Gotta see what he'll do. Plus they're going to ruin Bizarro #1, you watch.
Within a month, I'm dropping every title I collect anyway so it's a moot point. Marvel books too. Which sucks. I wanted to see what would happen in the Other and Deadly Genesis. Gonna miss Deadpool fer sure.
deadpool/cable is one of the very few books marvel i buy monthly, but mostly i have cut back on my pulls and just get the occassional TPB.
and i know OYL is a gimmick, but it is a new and interesting gimmick, i really want to see how much has changed in that year, and i will be pissed if nothing is that different at all.
its the same old dichotomy, you have to keep the status que, but you have to do something to shake things up.
change things too much, people get upset, RE: kyle over hal. do nothing and people get bored RE: anything from marvel.
its a fine tight-rope the writers have to walk and i don't envy them
actually.. hell yes i do! i would so love to write comics! i would kill everyone!
explain how that would not be fair since if you didnt know the GLC'S kinda outnumber the DCU heroes like 3 to 1 so get over it.... even if say 8,000 are rookies they'd still outnumber the heroes there is no fairness in this fight at all...
(a) Batman may be way over hyped ... but likely he could figure out SOMETHING that would annoy the GLs ... and if he could let the rest of the heroes know that would be very useful. HOWEVER ... who the heck trusts Batman and vice versa at this point? Batman goes rogue and thus takes down a few GLs but won't make a major dent. Alien anatomy also might prevent it from working equally on all of them anyway.
(b) The giant Death Star scenario has been done ... Supes [and the rest of Earth's heros] have dealt with Mageddon and various other 'most powerful being in the universe'/'giant death machine' things. While the GLs helped, it wasn't like not having them there was critical.
(c) If it's on Earth then you have people with 'home team advantage' ... not to mention the possibility of a coordinated attack on a defense OA to take out the power battery. GLs have to take Earth, the rest of the heroes just have to defend it. That's a distinct advantage.
(d) While many of the 'just human' heroes might not make much of a dent, with the sheer number of heros [which some could argue is close to the number of GLs mentioned] the ones that are dismissed as not being threats could get in some cheap shots here and there.
(e) Magic users. The Guardians HATE magic [and so those supes]. the Magic users hear of the impending arrival and go all Zattana on their Green butts and mindwipe as many as possible before they even get to Earth ;)
(f) I haven't checked up on what exactly the rules are in the latest GL comics, but I'm pretty sure they still need to recharge ... The key for the heroes to win is to find out where the GLs are recharding [for example, the set up on Mars or something to 'fall back' from the siege on Earth to recharge]. If the heroes know that, they can try to attack at that point ... take out some GLs at low/no power and hopefully prevent further recharging.
Again, I don't know the 'rules' now but I'm sure they haven't just made the GL ring "The super wishing ring with no drawbacks whatsoever it even doesn't do the monkey claw thing of messing up your wishes". But then again, it would go with the "absolutely perfectly heroic with no tragic failings" Hal ;)
GL ring may be the 'most powerful weapon in the universe' ... but technically, it's just a way to tap INTO the most powerful power source in the universe. Just cause Silver Surfer wields the Power Cosmic doesn't make him more powerful than anyone else ... especially a guy like Galactus who basically determines who has it or not. And even Galactus got knocked on his butt by the Beyonder and Thanos [with the Power Glove].
If all bets are off, the Telepaths and some of the Magic Users are able to render the rings useless via some mental blocking. And Supes could kill a few, take the rings, and go all Hallalax on their behinds.
And then Spectre comes in and everyone goes to hell.
Final Vote:
No matter where the fight takes place, either OA is undefended, or a battle ground ... either way a contingent of DC's heroes takes out OA and the whole GL Corps are toast.
That or, while they are fighting, Darkseid or the Manhunters or the Qwardians take out OA ... regardless, final outcome: GLs lose and OA is toast.
If we expand this whole thing to the Marvel Universe, then the battle comes out exactly as Scarlet Witch says it's going to. If it even happens.
First to determine who is going to victorious, the reason for the fight must be established. So here's the Scenario.
Darkseid has taken over the minds of all the earth heroes. They are devising plans to conquer the entire universe one sector at a time using his Apokoliptian Mind Control Device.
In this scenario, the tide would sway in favor of the earth heroes, latter to be overpowered by the might on the GL Corps. who then free the earth heroes from Darkseid and send him into exile where he can conviently develop some new diabolic plan to be unearthed in a later series.
This is comic book lore 101. All heroes must do all of the following during their tenure in comic lore in no particular order.
-1: Have some dramatic experience to come into being super-powered.
-2: Fight with powerful arch-rivals
-3: Lose their powers
-4: Lose their minds (mind control, insanity....whatever)
-5: Die
-6: Be reborn
-7: Win despite incredible odds that are heavily weighted against them, but only after seemily lost everything.
I'm pretty sure that given the scenario (IE: lots of prep time), Batman alone being on the "Earth Heroes" team would win it when things come to the "tide swaying". He has a long-standing history of beating EVERYONE given research time. Hell, his documentation on defeating the JLA was used once already to make Hal Jordon blind.
If you are referring to Tower of Babel that was Kyle, not Hal that was blinded.
And based on Batman's contingency plans, you could just as easily have any of the GLs use their ring to tap into Batman's computer gain access to his contingency plans and destroy the heroes with it.
Batman 'always wins' ... but his team mates seem to lose quite a bit because of him as well ;)
Seriously though ... it's all going to come down to neutralization. Take out the Battery on OA, you take out the Corps. On the other hand, there is no central power source for the DC heroes. They could go after the biggest treats, swarming on them and taking them out in spite of casualties on their own side ... but they can't really do it to all of the 'big guns' at once, and it REALLY opens them up to have a bunch of third stringers boom tube or otherwise teleport to OA and go on a 'Frodo and Sam and Gollum' mission to take out the Power Battery.
