Latuki Joe is way overdue for a shout-out on Metagame.
BUT...
Is this too unwieldy to be anything close to do-able? Aren't there just too many booty calls to keep track? Could we ever, ever get the Bizarro #98 seal of approval on something like this?
(I think all real mythological couples should have the Hawk/Dove fetch ability.)
Well, luckily, this is a small group. Really, if they've had sex, heck even kissed- it counts. Thats why we are working on the list is so that we can have things laid out. It also will help make certain cards be played, if only for a day.
Thanks, stu, I'm hoping Biz stops by to look over the list and add to it. We've got 6 weeks to get things in shape, and I can't wait. Luckily, a lot of hookups involve a character we don't yet have a card of. I'm certain I've only named maybe half of the characters who were a couple, but its fun thinking all of them up.
I've already made a big cardboard card that says (tenatively):
VALENTINES DAY
(plot twist)
Threshold of 1
Today while you control two people who have ever been a couple in the comics, they each get +2 ATK and +2 DEF. See full list for details.
Remember, I lose a week for the Metagame guidelines. Let's make it one month from today.
Biz, where you at? You are a man of principle, and you are the principal arbiter of authenticity in such things. Can we get anything close to an official list out of this, or do we just need to say: "That's it. These are all the legal couples." And then be satisfied?
The +2/+2 boost is prolly all we should give them, although local groups can add more abilities to taste.
Actually, to keep it thematic, I'd also add the following ability, "...+2 DEF and, "Activate --> Target character this character is a legal couple with is reinforced this attack." That way they've always got each other's backs.
Well, or we could just be cruel and say "Any couple not on the OFFICIAL LIST of COUPLES requires documentation in the form of a printed issue of the comic in which they are a couple as proof."
Sorry I haven't been around much lately. I've been scouring the card sales sites for the Infinite Crisis sales pitch. It should be out by now. grumblebitternessgrumble
Anyway, this sounds like a fun idea. Kinda reminds me of a DC vs. Marvel thing a friend of mine came up with a while back where all character cards that shared a logo would also share each other's team affiliations.
But anyway, since the DC list is looking a little shrimpy, here's some couples you're missing.
Cassandra Cain + Conner Kent
Alan Scott + Harlequin (not Harley Quinn)
Lana Lang + Superman
Katar Hol + Shayera Thal (How the hell did you miss that one?)
Captain Atom + Maxima
Guy Gardner + Ice
Valkyra + Orion
Pantha + Red Star
Kyle Abbot + Whisper A'Daire
Beautiful Dreamer + Big Bear
Thank you, your highness, for the seal of approval. It means the world to me... now we can steam on ahead with a clear conscience.
LJ, check your PM. I need details.
Anyone else who has the stones to play this in hobby league, PM me. I need details.
I am all over the "bring in the book that has the evidence" rule. That will cover the future couplings just right. Latuki's updated Date Roster will serve as the basic unofficially official legal list, but any couple may be played if you have their union on paper.
How about the Valentine ability? Are we in concert on the +2/+2? Is it only in effect when both characters are controlled? When the additional lover is recruited for the triangle play, do they all get an additional pump? (I say yes, thank you.)
Personally, we will be playing the Hawk/Dove search ability with all our couples. Each local group can add additional rules. Okay?
Yeah, we can iron out some real rules. I'm just trying to figure out what wouldn't be TOO broken while still being worthy of its own Format. Lets discuss what we should make the bonus/abilities.
How bout I just play some stupid Child Lock deck that doesnt care about the attack step and stomp all over your stupid bonuses
Basically, you'd need some ability that makes combat relevant. Or everyone can just agree to play along and have a fun format.
Personally, I think the format would be awesome if there was tension between "cheating" couples. For example, if your opponent had Iron Man + Natasha, you could bust up some bonuses or something by playing Hawkeye. #####slapping people out of the game would be awesome.
Also, I don't read comics, so I'm going completely by art on the last two.
Is Mikado AND Mosha like a 5/5 (or a 1/5). It definitely looks like some hot lesbian action is goin down.
What about Joystick? That thing in her hand certainly isn't a weapon :)
Personally, I think people will need to plan around a Child Named Valeria. Its not that hard. I don't see it being too broken, but then I also dont have loads of foresight. So, ban it?
