That is as bad as my 3 year old. She won't try any new food at all.
but, I have no problem telling booth is he is wrong, marvel AND D.C. have characters at both ends of the spectrum, DC has the outsiders, the green arrow family , the bats family, and the teen titans, Marvel has the x-men, and marvel knights, and avengers: Dc has the green lanterns and superman, Marvel, has silver surfer, adam warlock and galactus- the one difference is the focus for Dc is mainly on their high-end, while marvel goes low. but you can find a power-level you like in either company.
Originally posted by bronzefighter why is Marvel so much better then DC? Avengers is way better than justice league or any other DC comics. the only decent comics DC made was green lantern, other than that DC basically sucks. Marvel made awesome comics like: spider-man, X-men, Avengers, daredevil, Fantastic Four, Defenders,
Iron Fist, etc.
Everyone watch out, it's Night of the Living Marvel Zombies.
Remember, Marvel zombies can be beaten by bringing up the awesomeness of Batman, Superman, and the JLA. Blue Beetle and Booster Gold may be C-list but they do it with style!
Crisis on infinite earths
Power of ION
Predule to Infinite Crisis
Identity Crisis
Proyect OMAC
Rann Thanagar War
Days of Vengeance
Teen Titans V3
Return of Donna Troy
Graduation Day
......
Don't forget Batman Year One, Long Halloween, DKR, Watchmen (it's published by DC although it's Moore's own characters that are homages to Charleston), and Kingdom Come.
Even though I have always thought (and still do) that Marvel is a much better company, it is my own personal thought.
BronzeFighter.. you clearly haven't read any of those comics.. I know batman makes for a great read and you dismiss things like a child who just wants to feel like he's right. Grow up a little eh?
zeromalarki... FYI. I have read several dc comics about batman including batman worlds greatest detective. I foud all of them pretty absurd. although I am glad someone else prefers marvel I would apreciate it if you didn't belittle my knowledge of the dc universe.
marvel gives their characters real life issues that people can relate to. dc tends to focus on the problems of the story. of course dc has had their characters ingauge in life situations but marvel does that a lot more
To me, I think everyone is fully entitled to their own likes but to full blown say that one company is better than the other? Not a chance. Personally, I have always been more of a DC fan then a Marvel fan. I do like both companies but when I read the two I am drawn more to the DC unviser. I think this holds true for one reason. When I read the DC comics of today, you read about people who truly have the powers of gods. You look up to them, respect them. When I read the Marvel Universe. It feels closer to myself becuase alot characters struggle with real life issues that we, the readers, deal with. Diseases, divorces, and as Im sure like alot of others on this board and in general, being a bit nerdy like the early version of Peter Parker. Which is better? Which is worse? The true answer is that their is no answer. Sure DC isnt as great with continuity issues but marvel isnt any better at times as well. Marvel has its own share of problems with its crossovers. When are they supposed to happen within themselves? The entire time readin Spider-Man House of M, I just thought to myself, when in gods name does this happen with the rest of the books. Though in the end, both companies are great, and I certainly will not pick one over the other as I go to my local comic shop on Wednesday.
P.S. Though I have stated that I will not choose one side from the other, it pains me to read that "TT they are nothing compared to The Young Avengers. they're the heroes of our time." Im sorry but to compare a team as powerful as the titans, who have been around for about 30 years, and then say they are nothing compared to another group of superhero kids just going into their 10th issue? That my friend is absurd.
Marvel has characters that seem to be more interesting on the surface. DC is loaded with Icons of the industry. Unfortunately in my opinion, Marvel seems to be pumping out story after story where what happened in the last story just doesn't seem to matter so the whole universe is suffering. New characters lack appeal and something that even marginally resembles continuity might make marvel more interesting again. Until then, DC is earning my dollars.
I read DC primarily ... I do read some Marvel. However ... the only Marvel stuff I read is (a) Supreme Power [a ... alternate universe ... that is on it's own, and based on the Squadron Supreme, which in turn was based on the JLA. It may be Marvel does DC ... but it was a very interesting spin, and a precursor to stuff like Watchmen and Kingdom Come]
I also read [which is currently past tense] X-Statix ... when X-Statix presents Dead Girl comes out, I'll pick it up.
In general: I know 'of' most of the Marvel heroes and villains through Vs. [and originally Overpower] as well as cartoons, movies, etc. And not directly, but through interest in those things, I have found out about what happened in the comics.
I may have not even read any of House of M, just skimmed over the one I bought to get Hawkeye's EA, but I still know in general the 'facts' of what went down, as well as a bit of what Young Justice, etc.
Anyway, I got into comics via Superman, recently I've been picking up lots of Batman stuff as well. Obvioulsy, I'm currently knee deep in Infinite Crisis.
I've gone over to the Vertigo side a few times. Preacher was an awesome series, hands down.
As for the whole "continuity issues" someone brought up?
Umm, there are no such thing as clones, except when there are.
And someone should ask Kang if there are any alternate realities, universes, etc.
Ultimate, 2099, M2, New Universe ... heck, don't they have an entire comic dedicated to going to visit all the alternate realities of the Marvel universe?
And Marvel never has big cosmic events ... Secret Wars, Infinity Guantlet, House of M, Phoenix Saga, etc, etc, etc.
And heck, the Death of Superman was actually very 'personal' ... it was essentially Rocky if Rocky ended up dying in the ring and killing Apollo Creed as well ... Hardly a cosmic event, and yet still the biggest 'stunt' they ever pulled.
Crisis is a big cosmic event. So was the Infinity Guantlet and Secret Wars.
Honestly, it's impossible to paint the entire company with the same brush.
Superman is one of DC's biggest heroes. He's uberly powerful, and is morally flawless, more or less. Therefore ALL of DC must be that way.
Spiderman is one of Marvel's biggest heroes. He USED to be a whiny, angsty, fun, smart mouthed teenager ... so ALL of Marvel must be that way.
Except of course, Spiderman is married to an f'ing MODEL ... honestly, he stops being a 'geek' when he bags the hottest woman from high school ;)
Really ... is Superman and Lois doing their 'couple stuff between husband going to save the day' that much different than Spider-man and MJ doing the exact same thing?
But know, DC is obviously just a bunch of cosmic beings fighting with each other.
And Marvel is a bunch of street level people with real lives and real problems complicated by their alternate identities.
I wonder what Galactus would say about that? Or the High Evolutionary? Or the Kree? Or the Skrull? etc, etc, etc, etc ...
Just because there is something you like about Marvel, doesn't mean all Marvel comics are that way. Just because there is something you don't like about DC doesn't mean that all DC comics are that way.
So ultimately, you've started a thread where you said:
(a) Why is Marvel better than DC? However, because you have already decided that is the case you want people to 'tell you what you already believe'
(b) Demand someone say one good thing about DC, with the disclaimer that stuff that you already believe is true to you, and thus you choose to reject reality and substitute it with one of your own.
So, in a related note, I'd like to state that I believe that the sky is orange, and that it's therefore true to me. Now anyone prove that it's blue, with the disclaimer that I will determine what is true and false based entirely on things I've already decided before hearing any arguments.
walterkovacs...what the frik!!!!!! [yes, I know frik isn't a word I just like the way it looks] I use words that imply that this is my personal opinion such as ''one GOOD thing '' because good is detemined by the persons point of view. you said ''the sky is orange'' wich in fact is true [EXAMPLE: when the sun sets]. there for those of you who said dc is better is also correct. it all detemines what the situation is, and who the person is. I like green lantern corps over house of m. because house of m is a little difficult to follow. there are hundreds of these types of exceptions.
on another note I too read death of superman and also thought it was personal. that is one of those exceptions.

IM gonna have to go with him on this one you shouldnt be closed minded. While i dont defend DC (personally most of there heros do not interest me that much due primarily to superman) but they do have a few interesting story lines, and a few good comics (singles not to be confused with the entire saga) however both companies have their short comings and you should really try to find out what it is about DC you dont like and stick with that not just bash DC out right over everything. thats just dumb.
