i think if THAT game can get coverage, VS definitely should.
i mean, really? who doesn't want to see more super hero action on t.v.?
and in a show where players can use marvel or d.c. characters together or against each other...?
wait..could that be it? that due to the licensing for those properties there could be additional rights needed to be able to televise such an event?
and for that matter, what would stop d.c. from trying to sue the losing player for making their characters look bad after player x loses by making a terrible play error...?

See Baseball: Relief Pitcher ;)
Seriously, though. A sport requires a ball, or ball like object and physically mimics war in some way. This is the working definition that has served me lo these many years.
regardless of whether or not VS is physically exhausting, its very very mentally exhausting. Also I agree with the World series of poker comment, if that game gets coverage why shouldn't VS

It is an EXTREMELY intense form of excercise and competition, ala Armstrong, but I personally fail to see the strategic decision making or level of interaction between competetors necessary for qualification as a sport. Remember folks, that's just my take.
Hmmm, maybe we need cheerleaders in mini skirts, randomly babbling "go team" related stuff. If anything, we'd have alot more people attending major tournaments!
Did you just make that definition up to make VS seem more legitimate as a sport? From dictionary.com:

Nothing in this definition would make VS anything even close to a sport.
encyclopedia:
recreational or competitive activities that involve a degree of physical strength or skill. At one time, sports were commonly considered to include only the outdoor recreational pastimes, such as fishing, shooting, and hunting, as opposed to games, which were regarded as organized athletic contests played by teams or individuals according to prescribed rules. The distinction between sports and games has grown less clear, however, and the two terms are now often used interchangeably.
...especially the last sentence.
and a thank you to stubarnes for giving me a couple of healthy laughs...
Billiards gets coverage and it's no more mentally or physically challenging than playing cards. Billiards has Cue technique and VS and Formation Building and Deck Building. Not too much difference. Is Ping Pong really a sport? Synchronized Swimming??? That's definitely not a sport. If using a ball is an indicator of something being a sport then to settle tie breakers instead of points there should be a quick Dodge Ball tournament to settle any tie-breaker disputes.
