i think that Superboy prime should have been awsomely strong because he killed Superman from Earth 2 and beat the crap out of Superman he is so strong he deserved better.
Honestly though, notice that all the Crisis-affiliated characters are in their heroic days from CoIE? My guess is that this version of SB-Prime - along the lines of what Biz said - was meant to represent him back then, when he had just discovered he was Superboy (from a planet of essentially no supers - Ultraa was likely not a big influence on him after all :) ) and was dragged right into CoIE with no understanding of his abilities beyond what he'd seen on cartoons as a kid. That being the case, I wouldn't be surprised if sometime down the road we see a souped-up Villains United or Anti-Matter Superboy.
It's not just superboy, I think UDE missed the target with the whole Crisis affiliation. If I remember correctly, in Inquest they said the Crisis affiliation was supposed to be characters that are so powerful they're worth splashing into any deck. Now I can see they're definately trying to make the games last longer, but nothing in crisis is of any importance until turn 8, with the exception of Supes, who is really a mediocre 5-drop. Who except GLOCK is splashing 8 and 9 drops? I LOVE the set, but was hoping that the Crisis would make more of an impact
Originally posted by Bizarro #98 Because Upper Deck didn't know he was going to be the main villain of Infinite Crisis when they made the set over a year ago.
The version of Superboy we have now represents him as he appeared in CoIE, not IC.
Sorry, but DC is partnered with them on this and DC knew the story line long before these cards went to press. Its a screw up the same way Conner Kent not being in the set is a screw up.

Don't suppose you could have been more careful about that considering it was a big revelation to those of us who haven't gotten to read today's new comics?

Yeah, they did miss a few people.
- WALLY WEST
- KYLE RAYNER
- Connor Kent
- Donna Troy
- Dick Grayson
Obviously all of the Titans characters will be redone in the Legion set, but Donna and Connor should've been made.
well, I really don't think you can totally blame UDE. Anyone but hardcore DC fans will admit that IC has flopped pretty badly, with lots of nonsense and loose ends everywhere, it's not surprising that some of that would transfer to the characters in-game.
So much stuff from IC just didn't translate into the cards. I'm sure we can all point out half a dozen things wrong with IC, and a crapload more done right. All we can do is tell UDE "Well, just get it right next time around. If your gunna make a set based on a comic event, make it accurate. Know whos the big bad, and make him truely badass. Like i see him as:
SuperBoy Prime
Unstopable Temper Tantrum
Flight/Range
Cost: 5
11/11
Loyalty, Invulnerability
As an additional cost to recruit Superboy Prime, discard a card. Recruit Superboy only if you control a character with the print name Alexander Luthor.
If your oppoent controls more than 4 characters, you may discard two cards. If you do, target opponent stuns three characters he controls. During the recovery phase, target oppoent recovers 1 character and losses endurance equal to that character's cost. Use this power only if you have the initiative.
"I'm the real superboy, not some test tube clone that attacks his friends"
This would essentially make him what he is in the comic books, crazy powerful against lots of people. It would shut down titans before harper can abuse them in his usual way. This, UDE, is how superboy prime SHOULD be.

I work at a comics shop in DC, and over the past seven months no book has sold better then Infinite Crisis. Not a one, and the majority of those who buy the book are not regulars, and even if those who are lean towards Marvel.
Personally, I love the series and the set, but feel Superboy-Prime was slightly mis-handled.
Originally posted by Sayjin Upper Deck didn't know Superboy Prime would be the main villain, but knew Bart Allen would appear as "The Flash" and that Alexander Luthor Jr would be a villain?
DC told them some things, but obviously not everything.

If I remember correctly about 6 months ago or so when it was announced that the next DC set would be Infinite Crisis I remember the person who made the announcement said that to help them make the set DC actually gave them the advanced storylines for Infinite Crisis. Included in the post was the fact that they said "That means you may see stuff in the set that you don't understand until the entire comic series is completed."\
DC told them some advanced storylines.

DC was partnered with them.
DC probably know about it.
DC didn't bother telling them.

See, that's funny, because everywhere I go, I see people praising it as the best crossover event ever written.
Those "loose ends"? They're called the DC Universe. It's not supposed to just end.
Wow. People complaining a lot about a new set. haven't seen THAT one before...
The flavour of this set is FANTASTIC. They caught the essence of IC *so* well - the art, the flavour text, the team themes. This set hit the flavour of the characters better than ANY other set. No set will ever completely please everyone, and the more you have invested into certain comics or characters, the more likely the set will disappoint you, You simply have to go in without any expectations.
Donna Troy? Whatever - while the Return isn't the best card game-wise, putting her return on a plot twist is fine flavour-wise. She didn't need a character.
Kyle? He's more important OYL, he doesn't need a drop.
Wally? God, get OVER it. Wally sucks. Be happy you have one, and go pout in the corner until the next one comes along.
Conner? Okay, he probably should have been in the set. Nobody's perfect. And it's likely UDE didn't know about his importance.
Superboy Prime? So obviously the CoIE version I'm not sure why people are complaining...
But you know what? Just because DC shared info for this set with UDE doesn't mean they told them everything. What we got is probably the gist of what R&D knew when they were making the set. And it's not like they had finished isues to look at - and hey, DC approved everything, if they really felt certain characters were essential to this set they could well have mentioned it.
No, UDE didn't flop this set - I applaud Justin Gary and th few R&D members who were allowed to put this set together - they did an AMAZING job.
