hey... sorry to sound like an ingnoramous.... but is "Hard Traveling Heroes" a crossover title???
Not really. It was just a 14 issue story arc in the regular Green Lantern title that co-starred Green Arrow. Though that doesn't necessarily mean that Upper Deck wouldn't based on it, mind you.
Here's hoping we see both the original and current lineups for the Outsiders (Batman's crew and Nightwing/Arsenal's crew). And yes, Deathstroke <> Batman would be great, as would Ravager <> Batgirl (as seen in Teen Titans).
Hopefully some of the card art was submitted before Ed McGuinness signed his exclusive contract with Marvel. (crosses fingers and prays to the dark gods)
With any luck they'll include some versions of the characters lex has working for him in the entire 52 series. I wanna see how they'd translate natasha for revenge squad.
Gotham Knights
Team Superman
Arkham Inmates -There's room for dual affiliation to Secret Society, Injustice Gang, and Villans United.
Revenge Squad - Same as above.
The Outsiders- Likely going to see lots of dual affiliation to Teen Titans, Gotham Knights, and a few other teams.
First of all, I'd like to say that I hope that vast majority of this set is based on Loeb's Superman/Batman run, as it's consistently been the best pre-OYL book starring either character since the original Batman and Superman sets were released in 2004.
As for the men themselves, I'd like to see dual-affiliation played very loose with them. Three new versions of Superman, all Team Superman/Gotham Knights affiliated, and five new versions of Batman, three Gotham Knights/Team Superman affiliated, the other two Outsiders/Gotham Knights affiliated. I know Upper Deck doesn't normally like to cross-dual-affiliate the main teams within a set, but this seems like the perfect set to make an exception.
I guess it's different strokes for different folks. I like the first issue of Superman/Batman and thought it went steadily down hill from there. The last year's worth of stories were unreadable in my opinion. So, I hope they don't take their inspiration from Loeb.
I do want to see dual affiliation. I always want to see dual affiliation. But, I think Superman and Batman should stay on their own respective teams in this set. If you want to team them up, I'm sure there will be a card for that. I do think a GK/Outsiders Batman is a must. There should be at least one if not two.
Legion of Superheroes is currently what's fueling my hopes as I was a huge Legion fan back in the day. However, the thought of the Outsiders as well as a refeatured Arkham Inmates has me all sorts of excited right now. I can't wait for the inevitable Outsiders/Teen Titans Team-up card ;)
This set has me more excited than any other set before it. (And I was pretty damn excited about JLA). Here are some things I really want from the set (although some may show up in LoSH from what I've heard):
JLA:
- Wally West and Kyle Rayner as JLA members
- More characters from the Morrison run; Aztek, Orion and Barda (obviously DA with New Gods).
Gotham Knights:
- Some really good Robins (both Tim and Dick)
- Green Arrow (Ollie, Connor or both)
- More Birds of Prey: Black Canary, Oracle, Huntress, Lady Shiva<>Jade Canary, Gypsy, Lady Blackhawk (they'd make a great subteam)
- Good versions of Nightwing and Batgirl (both of them)
- Obviously, Batwoman
- The Question
- Renee Montoya (either as a cop or working on her own in 52)
- A good Batcave location
- Lots of use of the hidden area
Arkham Inmates:
- #1 Everyone wants a good Arkham tutor
- A couple of really good Jokers
- Good versions of the Riddler, Killer Croc, Clayface, Mr Freeze and Bane
- How about Catwoman? She wasn't always a GK.
- New Scarecrow, Harley, Poison Ivy and Two Face
- A good 8 drop
Team Superman:
- Superman characters with exceptional stats. To me, if a character is representing the Man of Steel it should almost always have above-average stats
- Good versions of the Supergirls, Superboy and Steel
- No reliance on cosmic. Aside from the fact cosmic never been a good mechanic, it's a really bad mechnic to represent Superman who's powers only fade around Kryptonite.
- Really good support characters: Lois, Jimmy, Perry, the Kents
- "Guest stars" - If the Spider-friends can include the Human Torch, Ice Man, Daredevil and the Punisher; then Team Superman can include Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and the Flash
- Some good locations for Kelex to search for; good versions of the Fortress of Solitude, Metropolis, and the Daily Planet; new locations like Smallville and Krypton
- Some good equipment; especially Steel's hammer
Revenge Squad:
- Really solid on-going plot twists
- Good versions of Lex, Brainiac, Parasite, Bizarro, Metallo and Doosmday
- A tutor, not just a mill card like "Revenge Squad"
- No more characters with below average stats unless they have game-breaking powers
- Ways to lower characters defense to contribute to the Bizarro Ray strategy
Outsiders:
- Versions of both Batman's team and Nightwing's team
- Good use of the hidden area - at least for Nightwing's team
- Some really funky mechanic that makes them a crazy team to play
Team-ups:
I'd like to see a special team-up card for GK and Team Supes; GK and Outsiders, Outsiders and Teen Titans and AI and RS.
OMG!! I will buy 10 boxes of that set! TS, GK, RS, and of course, AI!!!! YOWZA!!
As for what I'm looking for in AI, I want:
- A good 8 drop, like Bane, or even better, CLAYFACE!!
- A sweet Riddler and maybe Penguin.
- A GODLY Joker. Maybe a built in Tutor, something to represent Clown Prince himself!!
- An all around expansion of their themes. Combining discard and Exhaustion.
All in all, I LOVE what the line-up for 2007 is! Both Marvel Team-Up and World's Finest will be on the top of my list of sets to buy. Plain and simple. I'll start saving for boxes now!
Y'know, if it weren't for the scarcity of packs, and Loyalty, I'd say that this set opens up the possibility of DC Origins/Man Of Steel/World's Finest Draft.
It would be kinda cool to have viable multi-set drafts.
