Well, this thread is on the verge of being pushed to page 2, or "the dead zone", so before it goes down for the count ... does anyone know ANYTHING about Maxam? I mentioned him in the 1st post but no-one has posted any info on him.
I think the best bet for Infinity Watch woud be dual affiliated characters like a Defender/Infinity Watch Moondragon.
By best bet, maybe most likely, but they only have so many characters than can run as-is. A new Moondragon, particularly, would be hard to incorporate, as if a unique character is within 2 point-cost of another version of him/her-self, you usually either choose one of the other or they stumble over each-others feet.
If you went 3 safe points away from Moondragon's 4, that leaves you with either a 1 drop or a 7 drop Moondragon, neither of which really helps Infinity Watch as much as some other drops could (although they wouldn't cough at actually HAVING a 1-drop). And at between 2 to 6 cost, if you did incorporate it, you'd have to risk a uniqueness stumble or not play 4-Drop Moondragon, which leaves a big hole of no 4-drops.
Before Infinity Watch is really a viable team, they need more characters, and giving them a character that pretty much takes away another one of their characters won't give them that much of a playability boost unless that character is REALLY effective.
As for what Infinity Watch has the future POTENTIAL to do, I think Infinity Watch has the makings of a control team.
Concept: 2-Drop Pip, search for Timegem.
Gathering the Watch (reveal timegem) search for Gamora (or another upcoming drop if already in hand).
Your 3-Drop then can get her +2 ATK / +2 DEF bonus in the comfort of the "all encompassing null-time zone", and even your 5-Drop Drax the Destroyer works into the "plot-twist lock-down" concept.
Infinity Watch actually HAS potential, but not with the cardpool they have now. They just need more characters (and plot twist or location)... and I think the most effective way to get them a new character would be to give them one that doesn't conflict with their current curve, which at 1-character per 2-7 drop, is already fragile as it is ... and the only other Infinity Watch character I can find any info about is Maxam, and then it's only a name and a picture.
EDIT: Actually, on 2nd thought, they don't need a plot twist. The whole making of Infinity Watch is a lock-down on plot-twists. They need a location or another equipment if possible.
Well, I finally found out some more info on Maxam.
Apparently, he briefly held the Time Gem, which fits perfectly into a character that could make Infinity Watch - Plot-Twist lockdown alot more viable! I haven't thought of any potential mechanics for him, I just think the fact he held the Time Gem makes designing one that fits with IF's strength all the easier.
If anyone has any ideas for a Maxam card, please post it. Personally, I'm going to see if I can think up one that both fits and makes IF Plot-Lockdown much more viable, because well - it's fun.
(Link to full info on Maxam is linked to his name in the above post)
Maxam, Variable Class
Character // Infinity Watch // Cost: 4 // ATK: 7 // DEF: 6
- Maxam gets +1 ATK / +1 DEF for each character equipped with an Infinity Gem you control.
- Remove Maxam from the game, remove a cosmic counter from an Infinity Watch character you control >>> Negate target non-ongoing plot twist effect. You can't play plot twists this turn. Use this power only once per turn, and only if Maxam is in your hand.

How'd that be?
The first thing I typed was critcism, but the more I look at it the more I like it. The first part might be a bit "on the nose", but the idea of not only an "Infinity Watch Fizzle", but of having him be a "living plot-twist" (which in a team whose main strong concept is PT denial) could be huge.
I'm starting to envision an Infinity Watch team that denies plot-twists but then searches for their own characters who also function like plot-twists. On top of that, Infinity Watch "living plot twists" could be re-curred with Soulworld! (Except of course Maxam, who is removed from the game - which is probably for the best because adding a recurring fizzle to time gem is getting into dangerous territory.) Combined with the beatdown-strength of characters like Gamora and Drax, it could be strong. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself, but I see a hope for them.
I like it. I'd probably refine it a bit, but as a rough concept I like it. =D
Coolios... Speaking of plot twist characters: They've got Warlock on 7 who's like a walking Flame Trap... And Pip who can count as a Tech Upgrade... If they ever made a few more cards, they could become exceedingly cool...
And 8 drop Thanos that made the Infinity Gauntlet cost 0, or put it straight into play equipped to him would be awesome...
PS: Define "on the nose", lol... Not being awkward or anything, I just haven't heard that expression before

Lol, "on the nose" is usually used when something is too precise or efficient.
For example, and to be somewhat topical, say I was a comic book writer for DC comics and I wanted to come up with a apple-themed supervillian, maybe "Crimson Core" or "Granny Smith".
However, if I named him "Apple Man", people might say I was being too "on the nose".
Well my fiance' and I are headed out to a movie, but if anyone has any more ideas for Infinity Watch cards (or another idea for Maxam), UDE does read these boards, so any strong Inifinity Watch ideas you have might actually influence future stuff, and they could really use the help.
I'd personally just scrap all the IW team characters and start fresh. ALL of them should be fairly mundane chracters who get really powerful when equipped with their gem of choice. I don't know why UDE didn't do this to begin with, but most of the IW team is simply unplayable outside of Limited.

You could fix that by giving her an effect that bounces her to your hand(Like The Calculator or Marvel Knight's Dagger) or KOs her as a cost to get a search/bounce an opponent's character/draw 1-2 cards/etc.
It could easily work with your "Plot-twist Character" idea.

Okay, but why bother to "scrap" existing cards that aren't broken? Just print new versions.

Ok, last thing we were talking about on this thread was what Infinity Watch needs most to become a playable team affiliation, and it seems to be "Living Plot Twists" (characters with discard effects), to fit in with an Infinity Gem plot-twist lock down and that can then be recurred with Soul World.
Since no one has posted any ideas on such, I came up with some basic ones in the hope someone will comment, critize, and come up with some of their own.
First off, I think the strength of the plot-twist lockdown is not only can your "living plot twists" that get past Time Gem be recurred with Soul World, but it also allows you to turn character-searches into, essentially, plot-twist searches (of the type we choose to print on IW characters, so don't go getting combo-scared quite yet).
So with the concept of adding search into the "living plot twist", I came up with the following two cards:
Drax The Destroyer - Returned
4 - Character
Marvel Defenders / Infinity Watch
8/8
Cosmic: Return Drax the Destroyer to your hand, KO a resource you control >>> Search your deck for a card named The Kyln and put it face down into your resource row.
Discard Drax the Destroyer >> Target Marvel Defenders or Infinity Watch character you control gets +2 ATK this attack. Use this ability only while Drax The Destroyer is in your hand.
The Kyln - Intergalactic Prison
3 - Location
The Kyln is not unique.
When you flip The Kyln, search your deck for a character with Cosmic you control, reveal the card, shuffle your deck, and put the card on top of your deck.
Drax is probably best not recruited, of course, due to the 5-Drop Drax the Destroyer being an ideal 5-Drop for Infinity Watch's "PT lockdown" theme, although by giving him a cosmic ability it allows him to be searched out by The Kyln (which is also something he himself can search out with his cosmic ability, ipso-facto). Not only do I think this very fitting, as Drax was a longterm resident of The Kyln until it's recent destruction, but it also adds some more synergy to the idea, as he can also search out the original Kyln which is, essentially, a non-Plot-Twist Plot-Twist - on top of which both are non-unique and could be effectively both be played in the same deck without worry of conflict.
Other than that, his built-in PT ability is a simple +2 ATK, but in a Gamora / Time-Gem situation, should be more than enough.
Now The Kyln I think is simple enough to go without explanation. It's a non-PT 3-cost Non-team-stamped 1-character cosmic-limited Kindred Spirits. Since with cosmic it overlaps largely into Heralds', the "top-of-the-deck" theme fits it well and helps keep one of the more subtle weaknesses of a strong team intact.
Plus, the concept of an intergalactic prison that searches your deck for any cosmic-entity just has a fun feel to it, doesn't it?
I thought up one more Infinity Watch "living PT" as I was writing this thread, so here it is:
3 - Character
Moondragon - Heather Douglas
Avengers / Infinity Watch
3/5 - Flight - Range
Loyalty - Reveal. Reservist.
Cosmic: Return Moondragon to your hand >>> Target character you control cannot be stunned this turn while team-attacking.
Discard Moondragon >>> Unstunned characters you control cannot be the target of effects your opponent controls this turn. Use this ability only while Moondragon is in your hand and only while you control an Infinity Watch character.
Quite a few people have complained that some of their least fun match-ups are ones in which the opponent "doesn't fight" ... I.E., burn or stuns characters outside of the combat step, ect. This is something that I can sympathize with, so I think that giving a currently under-powered team a nice (also note: recurrable) blanket protection to such non-combat stun effects would be a real boost to their playability.
Now Moondragon is a concept that I think runs more of a risk of having a negative effect. I tried to curve off her splashability in other decks by giving her loyalty, and limiting her direct effect only to Infinity Watch itself, which by itself really isn't about to "shake up the meta-game" to any degree. Also, as a cosmic-character, she can be searched out for her PT effect with The Kyln - Intergalactic Prison, which allows you to get her effect reliably by only putting one or two copies of her into your build. I think this really gives a Infinity Watch a very viable position in the current meta-game, without giving them enough individual power to risk effects like this overly influencial - I could be wrong though, so tell me if I am.
So that's it, there's my thoughts on a few Infinity Watch legacy cards that could really make Infinity Watch more playable (it's a shame to really have any cards that won't see play).
Any comments? Anyone else have some Infinity Watch ideas?
If not, I'll probably move onto another mini-team by the end of the day. :p
EDIT: And, as always and with all my posts, I surrender any legal ownership of the ideas posted on these forums. If UDE would like to revise and incorporate any designs I suggest, they have my full permission without need to compensate or acredit me.
